r/ProTools - recent trolling and anti-fanboyism
There's been a recent increase in participation here involving anti-fanboyism of AVID and Pro Tools. It has included some trolling as well as some fundamental misunderstanding of what the sub is for and what crosses the line with the rules.
This sub is about use of AVID Pro Tools.
Take the example from the Deep Rock Galactic game and communities to be mutually supportive
When anti-fanboyism crosses over into a problem
It's great if
- you are here to seek help or offer help related to Pro Tools
- Pro Tools has been frustrating as hell for you but you're here to realistically solve it or help others
This is not the sub for
- you if you are not using Pro Tools or seeking to use Pro Tools. If another DAW is your thing, make the most of it and the subreddit(s) related to it.
- a rally or campaign point for "move-on from Pro Tools" or raw hate type trolling
- a battlefield between fanboys and anti-fanboys
- griping / hating / trolling just for the sake of griping / hating / trolling. Participation needs to ALSO include Pro Tools use solutions since without it, it's just being a sub troll.
- those whose sole purpose here is to be an AVID/Pro Tools hater troll or to drive users to other DAWs. That can result in being shown the door. Go be truly useful in a sub for the DAW you do like
SOLVE FIRST, BASH LAST
About moderating this issue
We'll remove posts which
- are about use of other DAWs. This sub is about the use of Pro Tools
- are 'Pro Tools sucks' whinging, and are without a sincere attempt at solving the issue.
- are solely or predominantly expectations that people provide them some kind of back door to AVID support or that posts here are how to get an AVID employee to fix their issue
- are 'the stupidity of AVID is...' type posts - just address the concern and state what you tried or what helped to get a resolution
We'll also be banning those who are only here to troll
...and about solving (even those dramatic) problems with Pro Tools
Maybe AVID could be better. Maybe the app could be improved and made more robust
Frankly, as a user and professional private pro tools support tech for film and music professionals for decades, it has consistently been that the majority of problems, especially those blamed on AVID / Pro Tools, turn out to be hardware related issues, user app and system configuration mistakes, and/or user-failed-to-RTM-and-now-having-predictable-outcomes. This is one reason automod prompts posters in this sub for info related to the app, system, hardware, and what has been tried.
Calling AVID "trash" or complaining you don't understand how it's an industry standard tool does not help to determine the solution to the problem with any configuration. Provide facts about the case, not frustration fueled generalizations.
If you are having issues, check your Pro Tools configurations / settings, your hardware setup, and system settings.

Did a factory reset of my computer, reinstalled PT, and now all of my tracks are this dark grey, despite them being color coded. How do I fix this?

How to get Aus uni discount?
Does anyone here know how to get a student discount for a perpetual protools license? I'm an Australian university music student and I can't for the life of me figure out if I can actually get a discount.

Having some issues with Triaz Player
I've been updating a few plugins today and triaz is fully just not installing. It's been almost four hours of trying to install it. I've cleared my avid link cache, restarted my computer, gone through the actual website. This wouldn't be a big issue but its now actively blocking other installs that need to get done. I'm using pro tools studio on windows if that helps.
Any advice?

Single Fader Controller?
Looking for a simple, minimalistic 100mm motorized touch-sensitive fader that communicates through EUCON (like the Avid Dock) but WITHOUT any extra buttons & serves ONLY as a single fader product.
Seems like there is no such thing in the market like that.
I have no need for any transport controls, knobs, displays, or button grids.
If anyone custom builds (or knows someone who custom builds) HUI controllers, would pay as much as the Avid Dock for a single fader controller that can guarantee:
1. Bidirectional HUI communication with Pro Tools
2. Touch sensing for Touch/Latch automation
3. Motor feedback when changing tracks or reopening a session
4. A method for targeting the selected track

Fix: Video Player Black Screen on Windows 11
TLDR: Update Pro Tools if you're having this issue on an older version, even if it's "compatible" with Win 11.
Hey all! I just wanted to write about my experience fixing a problem I spent the last 24 hours agonizing over in the hopes of helping someone else down the line. I wasn't really able to find this specific circumstance in my Google/Reddit searches.
So for years up until now I was running 2023.9 on my Windows 10 machine. My perpetual license's updates had run out and I never felt the need to spend more money when my version was stable. But this week I've migrated to a brand new Windows 11 rig which I figured wouldn't be an issue because 2023.9 is, in theory, compatible with Windows 11.
However, while PT itself was seemingly performing well, the problem was that the video engine was not displaying any video. The video window was nothing but black and thumbnails weren't showing on the video track. It wasn't crashing or anything, no errors, PT was acting as if it was working totally smoothly. I could even bounce to Quicktime just fine and that video file would play outside of PT.
I spent a full day trying basically every single possible combination of uninstalls/reinstalls, graphics/display tweaks, software compatibility tweaks. Nothing. So my last hail mary was just to bite the bullet and pay the $200 to renew my perpetual license so I could update to a newer version (2026.4.1), which thankfully immediately worked. It may seem obvious, but I just wasn't optimistic about that being the solution since 2023.9 was also theoretically Win 11 compatible. But it seems in the last few years Avid altered the way the Video Engine interacts with codecs and the OS.
Only remaining "issue" I'm having is that importing the audio along with the MP4 files specifically takes WAY longer than it did on my previous rig for some reason, but that can be pretty easily worked around by importing the audio separately or just using MOV.
Hope this helps if anyone is banging their head against the wall experiencing the same thing! It was pretty stressful for me since my client work kinda depends on me being able to work with video.
(I can edit to add my hardware specs if requested, but given the solution I honestly don't think it's relevant.)

Help Request Color channel strip pro tools 2026
Hi! I just downloaded pro tools 2026 on my new computer and I can’t seem to find the tracks down to adjust color settings in the color palette. Is this just a bug or a feature they got rid of in the new update? When I open color palette there’s no arrow to open UI customization. Kinda annoying if they did get rid of that feature.
Thanks!

Help Request Pan Control Breaking Glitch. Anyone else?
I've been dealing with a strange Pro Tools bug for almost a year and can't figure out what's causing it.
Random tracks will suddenly only output through the left speaker, even though there's no panning automation or routing changes. When this happens, the track's pan control essentially breaks. The pan knob still moves visually, but it doesn't actually change the pan value or affect the audio. Even if I pan the track 100% to the right, it continues playing only through the left speaker. There's often a crackling sound distortion that happens before the glitch presents itself. The only fix seems to be quitting and reopening pro tools.
It happens regardless of my playback engine. I've changed my full hardware setup over this last year and it's still occured, so I believe it's a software issue.
Has anyone experienced this before or know what might be causing it?

PT 12 Solution OMF Import problem - No such file or directoryIN omfsOpenFile
Edit: Solved but leaving this here in case anybody on the forum runs into this problem. Apparently it was happening because my sound post folder name had the special character "ó" because of my language. I changed that and it opened normally.
Hey everyone! Sorry for the weird spammy sounding title, this is just the error I'm getting.
I'm trying to open an OMF file and getting this error. I've had this error before and solved it by copying the OMF to my external ssd and opening it from there which I noticed after a mistake involving the copy from source media import is not the best solution.
Could not complete the Import Tracks command because Cannot open "c:\Users\[my username]\Desktop\[sound post folder]\[projects folder]\[project name]\1 - Material\[OMF file name].omf"!
No such file or directoryIn omfsOpenFile
I'm running PT 2025.12.1 on Windows 11 Home 25H2.
Thank you!

Help Request Does anybody have a permanent fix for this?
Just downloaded Pro Tools studio version 2026.4.0 and running it on windows 11. I keep running into the issue of the program getting stuck on this specific loading screen. The only solution that has worked is:
going into the Avid folder --> renaming the pro tools folder to "Old pro tools" --> opening the program after restarting my computer.
If I close the program I then have to go into the folder again, delete the newly created pro tools file and restart the computer again.
Any help for a permanent fix on not having to do this process EVERY time I want to open the program is appreciated!
UPDATE: So last night I did a full uninstall and reinstall of PT and the same issue is still happening. I’m using a Zoom r16 as my audio interface and it only loads fine after deleting/renaming that preferences file. I’ll double check what windows 11 version I’m on. Starting to get to the point where I’m accepting my fate.
UPDATE 2: So I was dumb and forgot to mention I'm also using a AKM320 for my midi keyboard. I disconnected both the R16 and the AKM320 and the program loaded up fine. The issue now is that if I want to use either of them, I have to close out the program and start it up again which puts me right back to square one.

I am having problems when using a sub mix- random delay occuring
Hello
(I am running PT 2021.12.0 on Sequoia 15.7.3)
I have a session where I was routing the outputs of all my audio tracks to one main audio track that I was using as a Sub Mix, and then I just tried to route certain parts of my mix to different sub mixes (to bounce out stems essentially) and all of a sudden I am getting a delay with some of the tracks. I did not add any new type of delay, and every corresponding delay I used within the mix got routed appropriately to the correct stem sub mix, but i don't understand how my whole mix is now out of sync. Has anyone ever encountered this?

Headphone Reccommendations?
Whats up? I’m getting a lot of noise on my recordings. Not in my ear but from the headphone itself as it clicks and turns and makes all kinds of sounds. What type of headphones are y’all using or is there a way to edit out the sound to preserve the take?
Thank you for reading.

Legacy PT10/11/12 HD License
I’ve got ProTools Ultimate Perpetual with a current support plan - does anyone know if it’s possible to use that to get an ilok asset deposited for an older version of ProTools? I thought I had seen documentation about that being possible awhile back but I’m not finding any info at Avid now.

interface Is HUI viable in 2026? If Eucon is the way to go, will non-S surfaces be viable?
Hi all, I've been working in the box for a couple of years now and would say I have a comfortable expertise over shortcuts to bridge the limitations of not having a control surface in front of me.
That being said, I've still been feeling that lacking a dedicated fader is my sole limiting factor for smoother and more natural automations.
The S1 and Dock are obvious choices for what I want, however in tandem with the price I'm a big believer in not buying more than I need. While the S1 are supported and current gen products, from researching what they offer I don't see them offering anything over what I can more quickly achieve with my shortcuts and macros, aside from the faders obviously.
This led me to explore HUI options, such as the Icon P1-M. 10bit motorised touch faders at half the price of a S1, with good reviews on the quality of the fader as well as additional macro buttons, it seems like a "no brainer" for me. That is, if HUI wasn't a depreciated and unsupported kit that could potentially break with the next update. Given my rather specific use case (really only needing one/multiple fader/s), is HUI viable?
The alternative to HUI, per the post title, is to use an older Eucon surface like the Artist Mix. I can find them used for 550 AUD (~380 USD) and it seems like a solid buy for me, as it focuses almost exclusively on the faders. However, people have said that the faders aren't that amazing, and it's also in the same boat as the Icon as it's officially marked as Unsupported and could potentially break in the future.
I realise and fully understand the expected response to this post will likely be "go with Eucon/the S1" for the integration and support, I just wanted to see how much wiggle room there was. I also wanted to get a sense for people's experience, and if anyone had any insights.
Many thanks, sorry for the long and somewhat rambling post.
Edit: Found a used Artist Mix and am very happy, great bit of kit and the Eucon functionality is exceptional. Can confirm for any future buyers that it works flawlessly with Pro Tools 2026.4. I'll try to update for future updates so there's some user evidence that it still works despite being discontinued.

Help Request No Audio From Stereo Track
Hi! Requesting for help. I have no sound coming out from my inputs 5-6 of my Zoom H6 even if there is signal coming through my interface. I tried in Logic and it reads the signal using the inputs 5-6 (stereo). I already check the inputs, I/0, solo, mute, outputs 1-2 stereo, still nothing coming out. I even tried a microphone on channel 3, it read it. But still no sound from ProTools for inputs 5-6 even though I can literally see a signal is being displayed on my H6
Using Pro Tools Intro
Macbook Pro M1
Any help is deeply appreciated as I am trying to learn how to use ProTools.
Thank you!
