My first impression of the XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K has been very positive. The projector was shipped and packaged very securely, making for a premium unboxing experience (dare I say, Apple-like?). Setup was simple, and I tested it during the day on a projector screen, a painted projection wall, and a textured office wall. In every case, the image was bright, crisp, and clear, even in a bright room. The 4K resolution and 1,600 lumens really stand out here, as it delivers an impressive picture that looks great in real-world use. Now obviously, this is not a lumen powerhouse, so it will wash out in brighter environments, but for a portable projector, it more than holds its own. Colors are very accurate out of the box, and I appreciate the wide range of picture adjustments, including white balance correction and color space options, for those who enjoy dialing in the image down to the pixel. The autofocus worked exceptionally well, quickly producing a sharp picture each time I repositioned the projector, and the automatic keystone feature almost always produced a square image. The built-in Harman Kardon speakers are also robust for a portable projector. They aren't jaw-dropping, but they're more than capable for movies and everyday viewing, and the built-in audio equalizer is a welcomed addition. I was also impressed to see eARC support for connecting to an external sound system. While testing Hulu, I did have to add a speaker delay of 30/100 to keep the audio perfectly in sync, but after that minor tweak the audio was perfectly in sync. Another feature I appreciated was the built-in proximity sensors, which automatically dim the light output when someone walks in close proximity of the projector for added safety.
The remote is intuitive to use and the motion-activated backlighting makes it easy to find buttons in the dark. I would have preferred the mute button to be located closer to the volume controls since it's something I use fairly often. I also would have liked to see a USB-C data port in addition to the USB-A ports, as more accessories are moving to USB-C.
The interface felt a little sluggish immediately after the initial setup and app installation, but it became noticeably smoother once everything finished updating and indexing. One small improvement I'd like to see is a startup logo or graphic before the operating system fully loads, just to provide immediate confirmation that the projector has powered on. I also couldn't find a way to disable the UI beeps, which would be nice to have. I also would have appreciated basic D-pad controls on the projector itself for those times when the remote isn't nearby, although I understand the clean, minimalist design choice. Finally, I didn't notice any meaningful brightness increase when using High Power mode and it introduced a slight green tint while the fan kicks into high gear.Ā
Overall though, the XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K feels like a thoughtfully designed portable projector that delivers excellent image quality, accurate colors, useful customization options, and a polished user experience. Most of my feedback comes down to small quality-of-life improvements rather than major issues, and I've been very impressed with it so far. This has been my first experience with the XGIMI brand and it has left an overwhelmingly positive impression on me. This is a projector Iād have no hesitation recommending. Consider me a fan!
