Star Detective Pretty Cure! My honest feelings towards Star Detective (Meitantei) Precure

I don't know if any of you feel the same way as I do, and it's fine if you don't, but I really, REALLY can't get into Star Detective, and I don't get its appeal. I thought it was even less engaging than the past seasons, both in terms of the story and especially the characters.

For starters, I really don't like its main characters, Anna and Mikuru. I thought the two have no personality whatsoever and are quite similar to one another, and even after 25 episodes, I still don't know who they are, what Anna's or Mikuru's personal life and interests are like, where Anna's father is and why she never said anything about him, why Mikuru wants to be a detective and how she knows about Precures. I was so appalled by the first episode; literally, it sped up the character introductions and immediately jumped into the mystery part without giving me any reason to care about those two.

I also don't get what's cool about Luluka; she has a cute design, but I thought she was one-note and her deadpan voice kind of irritates me. Because of that, I couldn't care about the mystery behind why she works under Usonoir and her relationship with Eclair. I thought the reveal was predictable and the mystery itself was pointless (I also didn't like the reveal of who Eclair is).

Jet-Senpai and Mashutan were okay, and so were the villains who left a stronger impression on me than the Cures. Pochitan was a little annoying, though, but not as much as the two so-called leads.

I also thought the mystery part was super boring; aside from the unengaging leads, I thought the show relies too much on delaying the information without building up to it early on, which makes the experience so annoying, especially when the reveal ends up being underwhelming like the Cure Eclair arc. I also wonder if the time-travel element or the similarity between Mikuru and Anna's mother (and Anna strangely never noticing) is necessary; will that be relevant later on, or wouldn't there be any difference if there's no time travel and Mikuru's design was different?

On a more personal note, I'm not the biggest fan of the designs (from the 100 Girlfriend anime designer, no less); they don't look awful by any means, but they look to me kind of bland and a bit too babyish for my liking, if you know what I mean, and these default red cheeks on each girl look super distracting to me.

EDIT: I forgot to say that the premise of this season is more or less similar to Maho Girls, Star Twinkle (the first two are from the same writer), Tropical Rogue, and especially Hirogaru Sky (a girl mets another one from a different setting, and their relationship becomes one of the main focus of the story, and there's a baby fairy they're taking care of), i don't know if anyone else noticed that, but i did.

Again, these are just my opinion, but I want to know if there's anyone else who might agree with me on some point.

Fan Work Season original Pretty cure

I saw this in a YouTube video that was unfortunately deleted, and I decided to revive the idea: creating a 100% original Precure season. My concept is a technology-themed season set in the world's most technologically advanced city. Deep within cyberspace lies a kingdom called Ciderdream that controls the city's communications; however, they come under attack by viruses known as the "Infection Empire," who seek to seize control of everything—including the city itself. Before everything falls, a group of fairies manages to escape with the "Cyberdrivers" (the transformation devices) and must find the girls destined to become the season's Precure,Characters: The protagonist is a 14-year-old girl named Kaede Shirogane; she lives with her family and loves video games. She is the typical, highly enthusiastic *Pretty Cure* protagonist. Her best friend is a quiet but very smart girl (a *kuudere*) who is a hacker; her *Pretty Cure* name would be Cure Gamer, and her color pink. Hanako Mizuhara: Kaede’s best friend and schoolmate; a smart girl and secret hacker who becomes the *Pretty Cure* known as Cure Hacker. Miku Minamoto: A seemingly ordinary girl who is secretly one of the city's most famous influencers, known as "MM"; Kaede follows and admires her but is too scatterbrained to realize that Miku is MM. She would be the purple *Pretty Cure*, Cure Influencer. Finally, the princess of the virtual kingdom, Aria Imari (I couldn't think of anything that referenced the letters "AI"); she would be the last *Pretty Cure*—the yellow one—named Cure AI.

General What Is One Thing You Think Could've Been Done Better About Your Favourite Cure And Why?

Post image

Cure Milky is my personal favourite cure because of the fact that she's a fish out of water cure done exceedingly well, has a background that encapsulates Star Twinkle's great worldbuilding, and she just hits all the right notes for me as a person. Istg, in very simple terms: both plot-wise and aesthetically speaking, Cure Milky has a chokehold on me.

BUT if I could criticize one thing about her character, it would be:

- The amount of focus she gets in Star Twinkle. While this isn't a problem for me because I love Lala, I do think she tends to steal the spotlight in her season when other cures really needed this.

I'm not saying HER focus episodes were bad, because they certainly weren't and genuinely have an amazing arc on their own.

But there are instances where, in another episode NOT focusing on Lala, it's specifically Lala that helps deliver a speech or help out another Cure with their problems. Thus why I think those moments would've been stronger if those aforementioned Cures delivered those speeches or help out themselves rather then Lala imo.

Even then, I still think she's one of the best cures we got (biased), wbu?

General Which precure do you think you’d be friends with??

Honestly I just had a random shower thought… I was thinking how funny it would be if Laura(cure la mer) and I could be friends 😭 she’s so narcissistic and self absorbed but she always cares about the greater good!! I also think I would be great at trauma bonding with yuri (cure moonlight). But it also has me wondering how my fellow precure fans feel! If anyone is interested, I’d love to hear which precure you’d be friends with??

I'm so surprised that we're going to get the movie consider we didn't get it last year and Wonderful's movie wasn't done well during its release! And this time we have sub and dub!

Side note:

  1. This movie has a different distributor from the previous two movies

  2. Taiwan's recent episode is Star Detective episode 17

Fan Work It surprises me that back in 2008, Precure didn't have a season where all the girls looked like that. I mean, they aren't evil or anything; they just like dressing in black or wearing Gothic Lolita fashion (@kaatsukun)

General The All-Male Pretty Cure Stage show, is getting a new production, which probably means a new team of handsome magical boys will light up Japan's stages this December, following the footsteps of the widely successful Dancing Star team!

Saw nobody talking about this, and as a Mega-Fan of the stage shows I decided to take things into my own hands! Honestly it's incredible they are managed to renew it with a new production just like they do with the animated seasons; I think it really speak of the success of this spin-off!

(Also, I really hope that all the boys will make at least make a non-speaking cameo in the next All-Stars films, they more than deserved it at this point)

General List your Precure concepts that Toei definitely should do in the future!

List anything you have in mind!

I’ll go first. I have a few concepts I have. I even wrote full season plot and character concepts. But I will keep them short.

- I think a precure season where we have an orange, red, yellow, and a purple cure that have punk adjacent hairstyles? And their uniforms consist of them wearing long or short chuck taylors and regular shirts. But the uniforms are HEAVILY stylized (because it’s precure after all). The season would be focused on alt culture. Or something resembling alt culture. Lately I have been into alternative culture and fashion.

- I’d love a Precure season where the main team has three Cures whose signature colors are black, with a White Cure joining as the midseason Cure. We rarely get black themed Cures, so I think a team built around black and white color schemes would be really unique.

- An art themed precure season with the team consisting of a red, blue, yellow, or orange or black and white cures. I am honestly surprised Toei hasn’t done an art themed precure season.

I have way more and more developed concepts than these. But these are all mines!

What about you guys?

Fan Work 👑Precure Sketches #28 - Cure Princess👑 Who should I draw next?

Finally a Happiness Charge girl! I know their designs are a bit divisive, but I do like them for the most part! For Princess, I think the dark socks work really well to carry the darkness of the vest through her design, and I think her little boots are super cute. Also, the curls at the ends of her hair make me so happy!

Who should I draw next? (I add the suggestions to a wheel to choose)
I’m also not drawing two Cures of the same season or colour in a row, for the sake of variety :)
