Since the original comic character fell into the public domain in the 1960s before Popeye did mostly due to king features not renewing many of their older strips (they only renewed Popeye for some reason), I read the original 1932 strips and holy shit Bluto was more savage and monsterous in the original Segar run.

He has no feelings for olive oyl, he was a pirate wanting to steal a parrot, he teared gold teeth from his own people and he was very feral.

Honestly, instead of Slayer man, we need a Bluto slasher film, Feel free to disagree but he defintely fits better lol.

In my mind, I can see a very specific clip playing of Popeye, pipe in mouth, leaning backward with his dukes out in front of him punch-waving them around.

But in googling and youtubing, I haven't once found him in that position.

Have I mis-remembered my childhood and invented something that never happened? Or if it did happen, could someone please post an image or link to a video?

Is Sweet Haven an independent island country somewhere? As a kid I guess I thought it was just a fishing town in the US, but then as an adult hearing they filmed in Malta, I’ve sort of just imagined that’s where Sweet Haven is. What do you think?
