I saw that the band Whitney is on tour near me and that Nick Allbrook is joining them for a couple shows so I got a ticket because I love his music. Does anyone know what to expect? Iâm wondering if Nick is going to open and play his solo work or play with the band. Has anyone seen Nick live not with Pond? Iâll be going to see Pond for the first time in Los Angeles this September and I am beyond hyped. Cheers!

I love Pond, going to their concert in Chicago. Looking for buddies who love this band as much as I do.

When the first single from Terrestrials dropped, I immediately noticed the intentionally pared back production and song structure. I think Iâd seen a couple live videos posted here of a new song theyâd premiered a couple times called âCasuarinaâ but it didnât really click with me.
Skip to the album release and on my first listen, I still didnât really get it. It felt like a bit much, too loud and fast, still didnât really grab me.
And then I listened a second time. Oh my god. This song has absolutely everything I love about Pond. That cool drum fill in the verses, the simple but powerful guitar, the perfectly timed bass that fits so nicely into everything else, and the deeply political lyrics by Nick. ALL of it comes together into a straight balls to the walls no stops no slowdowns BANGER. Theyâve perfected their sound by intentionally stripping away all the bells and whistles, leaving just the absolute essentials. Itâs like fully communicating an idea with the least amount of words possible. Thereâs something super admirable about the brevity, because the only way to make something that streamlined is to know what to deliberately omit. Lots of restraint in this song (and album) and itâs pure magic.
Donât even get me started on the BRIDGE of this song omgâŠ.
Terrestrials as a whole carries a lot of these traits and itâs well on its way to becoming my favorite pond album ever.

I'd say Stung! is definitely my number 1 album by pond with The Weather coming close at 2nd. I was so speechless when i relistened to the album, banger after banger, perfect production, ESPECIALLY Edge Of The World Pt.3 which is by far one of the best songs oat.
I'd say So Lo in 3rd, Boys Don't Crash in 2nd, and Edge Of The World Pt. 3 taking 1st place
This is by far the greatest album i've ever listened, definitely a no-skip for me. I would keep glazing but i just don't know what to say.

Have always wanted to get into some more Pond but couldnât tell you the last time I had an opportunity to just put on an artists / groups discography and listen through to everything and take and pick what I like.
Iâve always loved Man It Feels Like Space Again, I come from being a HUGE fan of MGMT and that song has always felt like a cousin of their longer songs like Siberian Breaks, or Metanoia (of which I have 2 tattoos for)
And about year ago I rediscovered Medicine Hat which is one of my all time favourite songs.
I love music that fully immerses me and those 2 songs really do it hard so Iâd love for anyone to share some of their Pond favourites that hit the same or similar spot. That way I can compile up a list to get through over time.
Thanks in advance!

I recently found this band and they seem extremely underrated. Hereâs probably my favorite song by them. https://youtu.be/zHMjRZlOVlw?si=SsV9Nv6KWagHPTBe

Opening night was amazing. We fell in love with Pond three years ago when they played Terminal West for one of the late-night Shaky Knees shows and my wife and I were so thrilled to see them again last night! đđ»

Drunk dude was touching and dancing on these girls last night in the Pond pit. I asked one girl if she knew him and she said no (the other woman was so drunk she could barely hold herself up) and I asked if she was uncomfortable. And she said yes. I told this dude to leave them alone and his friends came up and asked me what was happening and ultimately, no one did anything to stop this dude from touching these women. His friendâs excuse was that he was drunk, as was the excuse of the guy who was there with one of the girlâs too.
I eventually left the pit after I told the guy to leave them alone and his buddy tried to talk to him too, but found out later he continued to try to lean and touch on them and the one girl apparently kept trying to shake him off.
It doesnât matter if the dude is drunk too. Get your fucking friend if theyâre making people uncomfortable AND itâs been brought to your attention. I watched them for a while before I said anything and asked the people around us, and one of the women, if they knew this man. Get your friends if theyâre doing shit like that.
and I donât really appreciate the way the men around us waved it off because he had been drinking.
I so badly wanted to start waving my hands and trying to get the bandâs attention (we were second row practically) because of how this was happening. Had i stayed and seen him do it more, I probably would have.
GET YOUR FUCKING FRIENDS.
edit: his friend did try to talk to him but also was trying to get me to let it go because his friend was drunk, and as soon as the drunk dude said no to leaving, his friend just shuffled back and didnât do anything else. Sorry, thatâs not good enough for me. He continued to lean and touch on those women for the rest of the show. Fuck him.

Hi everyone! Over the last few days, I did a complete relisten of their entire discography and put together my album ranking. Let me know what you think and what your own ranking looks like!
1. âThe Weatherâ (9/10)
The most mature album in their repertoire and the one that transitions them into a new phase heavily driven by '80s retro/synth/new wave sounds. It is the record that stands out the most from their previous material: the guitars are more sparse, leaving room for their most synth-focused album yet.
Favorite tracks:Â âFire in the waterâ, â30000 megatonsâ, âColder than iceâ.
2. âStung!â (9/10)
Their most self-aware, delicate, and intimate album. A fully realized masterpieceâperhaps even more so than The Weatherâthat doesn't have a single filler track. The guitars make a stronger comeback here; itâs the album that best synthesizes all of Pond's different souls, and itâs the first one I would recommend to a newcomer.
Favorite tracks:Â âConstant picnicâ, âFell from grace with the seaâ, âOU V-Rayâ.
3. âMan it feels like space againâ (8.5/10)
The most glam, easygoing, and yet somehow the more mature sibling to Hobo Rocket. Psychedelia gives way to space rock and long synth solos. We are definitively in Pond's middle phase: no longer just a band of hippies, but not yet the synthwave group they would become from the next record onward.
Favorite tracks:Â âWaiting around for graceâ, âHolding out for youâ, âMan it feels like space againâ.
4. âTasmaniaâ (8/10)
Their brightest and most sun-drenched album. An anthem to nature and beauty. Probably also Pond's best album from a production standpointâit's incredibly clean. The sunset atmospheres of Beard, Wives, Denim return in a more mature, reworked guise to build the album that marked the band's definitive consecration.
Favorite tracks: âDaisyâ, âSelenĂ©â, âSixteen daysâ.
5. â9â (7.5/10)
An album with somewhat dark and melancholic atmospheres; it carries a certain bitter aftertaste and definitely feels less carefree compared to Pond's usual output. In my opinion, it has too many filler moments, but despite this, it maintains a high standard. It almost seemed to pave the way toward new sounds, but the following album starts from completely different premises.
Favorite tracks:Â âToastâ, âSong for Agnesâ, âTake me Avalonâ.
6. âBeard, Wives, Denimâ (7/10)
The record that flawlessly closes Pond's early, youthful eraâa well-rounded album, although still immature, but highly coherent and solid. Itâs a nostalgic record that tastes like summer sunsets, friends, and lightheartedness. After Frond, this is the first album that successfully detaches itself completely from the old-school psychedelia of their earliest phase.
Favorite tracks:Â âElegant designâ, âWhen it explodesâ, âFantastic explosion of timeâ.
7. âTerrestrialsâ (6.5/10)
A very dry, almost punk album. In my opinion, it betrays the expectations built up with Stung!; guitars return aggressively, with very few synths. You can glimpse an attempt to explore new directions, and some sounds are reminiscent of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, but it feels like a less-than-successful attempt. I hope it grows on me more in the future.
Favorite tracks:Â âCasuarinaâ, âSkyworksâ, âFatal shoreâ.
8. âHobo Rocketâ (5.5/10)
The album of their first transition, but it doesn't quite land. Even though it has its own internal consistency, it feels unfinished, likely weighed down by the definitive distancing from the band's first phase. It is probably Pond's heaviest, most power-blues-rock record, but despite that, it misses out on being memorable. Nevertheless, it is the record where the band's ultimate identity and official lineup finally take shape.
Favorite tracks:Â âXanmanâ, âGiant tortoiseâ, âMidnight massâ.
9. âFrondâ (5/10)
The band's first non-experimental record, even if it retains a certain dose of early-days psychedelia. The band still viewed itself as a collective of musicians without a fixed lineup. Compared to the first two albums, pop tracks appear for the first time, even in a structural sense. There are a few interesting tracks, but the band is still too green and gives the impression of not quite knowing what it wants to be yet.
Favorite tracks:Â âSunlight Cardiganâ, âBetty Davisâ, âFrondâ.
10. âPsychedelic Mangoâ (4/10)
The debut album from these crazy hippies is an experimental work, but one that already hints at the potential of the band's founders. An album that, in its total immaturity, still leaves us with two iconic tracks like âPsychedelic Mangoâ and âDonât look at the sun or youâll go blindâ.
11. âCorridors of Blissterdayâ (3/10)
The band's wild experimentation continues on this record, but this time without a single memorable track. We are still in an embryonic stageâtoo little to form any meaningful judgment of value.

Zond is my #3 Pond song of all time (so far) and I noticed that it's a recurring musical resonance that appears on several of their albums. I am not a musician so I can't quite explain what about a song makes it resonant with Zond, it's just an intuitive sense that you get while listening.
The Early Years: Betty Davis
MIFLSA || Zond (obviously)
Tasmania || Sixteen Days
9 || Human Touch (my #2 Pond song of all time so far)
Terrestrials || Two Hands (tied with Casuarina for #5 Pond song of all time so far)
This is just an observation. Did anyone else notice this? Do you think other albums have at least one song with ZOND energy that I missed? Any other musical resonance on their albums that we can appreciate? I fucking love Pond!
ETA: Just to clarify, my top 5 Pond songs are the top 5 songs of all time by any artist because POND is the best band ever.
In line for the pond concert at terminal west. Does anyone know if there is an opener tonight?

IDK if this post is allowed lol, but I am looking to meet people who are also going to the Pond concert on 08/27 at the Metro Chicago. I am Pond's number 1 fan and I would love to hang out with other fans. I can guarantee that anyone who listens to Pond must be pretty cool so I figure it's an excellent opportunity to possibly make some new friends.
ABOUT ME:
27yo black female born and raised in Chicago. I love watching horror movies and reading horror fiction, playing video games, knitting + crochet + cross-stitch, and studying the esoteric/occult/mysteries and performing witchcraft. I am a lesbian. I only listen to POND now since I found them, because once you listen to POND all other music pales in comparison.
HMU if you are also going to this show and want to meet up then or hang out day of and party pre-show :)
