F'ing replace him. Quit playing by the rules.

u/False_Ad_5372 I voted 2h ago

Only one side plays by the rules, and screws the American people over just as much as the other by doing so.

Beshear thinks he has a chance at being President, which means he's too afraid of doing something wrong that he'll never do anything right.

u/ultimateknackered 16m ago

You know what will make Dem voters sit up and take notice and go 'Yeah maybe there is something to this guy'?

Forcing this charade to be exposed.

u/DaBingeGirl Illinois 16m ago

Bingo. This makes me far less likely to support him in a primary. Fucking spineless.

What would we expect from the guy who didn’t allow Obama to replace the Supreme Court open seat? if he’s gonna fuck the country while he’s alive then he may as well do it when he’s dead.

I am still so pissed we didn't raise hell over this.

u/Wayofchinchilla 1h ago

All the more reason to vote the Boomers out that whole moral High Ground thing seems to be what they live their life on and look what it led too. As a millennial I have never felt less optimistic about my future. I'm not saying you have to go through life bulldozing everybody around you to get ahead but I'm certainly not going to sit there and let somebody cheat in front of me and then try to win the game by playing by the rules.

u/Amazing_Incident1521 1h ago

I was where you are but now I think they’re in on it. Not all the weird stuff but they’re benefiting from Trump and other republicans. How many dems tell you they know who is in the Epstein files but won’t say anything. Why?

u/No-Shopping-4434 1h ago

Because Israel is using the Epstein files as blackmail for Trump, and Dems are on the dole via AIPAC.

u/Bigislandfarmer 15m ago

They're not "dying on a moral hill" they are funded by the same billionaires funding the Republicans. Controlled opposition.

u/Bronzeshadow 33m ago

Democrats are still holding their breath waiting for a John McCain type to walk through the door and restore honor to the Republican party. They don't realize that those days are long gone and that their sister party has become an Epstein Mafia.

u/Xznograthos 1h ago

Its a bit deeper than that. Only one side is held to any rules, since we have a partisan supreme court and plenty of maga-sycophants on the benches in various circuits.

Replacing him would be playing by the state constitution anyway

u/Dense_Objective_2039 10m ago

u/Thac0isWhac0 1h ago

Replacing a dead man is playing by the rules. So he should replace him.

u/EmilySD101 54m ago

I don’t care if Beshear calls the election 10 minutes from now. The way he’s dragged his feet is disqualifying for a presidential candidate. If he does it now, it’s because he was bullied into doing the right thing. That man is no leader.

u/m0ngoos3 53m ago

Just declare the seat open, and call the special election. If McConnell wants to disagree, he can do it in person.

u/Jorji-the-Trainer Canada 56m ago

u/ILLY-VANILLI I voted 1h ago

This reminds me.. Joined town hall call for my rep last year during the first major ICE raids, he tells us that his response was to "sign a letter they sent to Trump".

They're lucky they didn't call me up for comments, otherwise I would have laid into him. We all know Trump can't read, or won't read, so that's just a waste of time. We need actual fighters, not this performative bullshit response.

So disappointed in him.

u/Stillwater215 14m ago

Better yet, play by the rules. Stop making up new rules that only hinder your own ability to play the game.

u/Naturenick17 30m ago

Beshear has to appoint a Republican. No vote is better.

u/TransiTorri 23m ago

McConnell would've already replaced McConnell by now. Why are we playing by rules that no one else has to. It's not moral to stand by idly watching someone else getting pummeled in to the ground.
That is not a "neutral" position. Sometimes, inaction *is* immoral

u/drewts86 17m ago

If they start the process of replacing him and Republicans want to argue against, the only way their argument is viable is proof of life via an in-person welfare check. No bullshit photos or videos that can be faked by AI.

Dems at least wheeled their corpses around (Feinstein) for everyone to see.

Republicans on the other hand:

  • Texas Rep. Kay Granger, 81, who missed six months of key House votes — found living at retirement community
  • Tom Kean Jr. was absent from the U.S. House of Representatives for nearly four months before revealing he was hospitalized for depression
  • McConnell has been missing for six weeks.

If he was alive they wouldn’t be stonewalling. The governor has his answer. Call the special election and force their hand.

u/RainbowDarter 49m ago

Doesn't need a special election according to the ky constitution.

He can appoint directly. The law limiting that right has never been tested in the ky supreme court.

u/rock-n-white-hat 48m ago

I agree. I think that would be better. Appoint a Democrat replacement and force the GOP to take him to court to stop it.

u/Wild_Appearance3859 25m ago

I really hope that this is the play, and they are waiting to allow the time for the corpse to decay for optics. Why have a "normal" looking McConnell on life support, when he still has time to get to 85 lbs and clearly suffering?

u/toorigged2fail 20m ago

Unfortunately since they control the Senate I think they could just refuse to swear the replacement in Just like they did earlier this Congress with Grijalva. Dems would have to go to court.

u/whichwitch9 2h ago

Kentucky has an interesting conundrum. They passed a law to limit the governor's power, but did not change their state constitution. Their state constitution gives him power to appoint someone until a special election can be held.

They're delaying so he can't appoint someone. This is also I think why we're hearing rumblings of Fettermen switching parties- Republicans are in danger of losing the majority. Fetterman would boost their number to account for an appointed Democrat

u/WantCookiesNow 24m ago

I don’t follow - if the constitution allows him to appoint someone, why is a delay in a special election causing an issue?

Then Fash Media floods the socials with mockery and rage about how liberals are reacting to news of his death. And a number of people guilty not performing fawning praise get targeted and attacked in various ways (as after Kirk's death). These attacks are savored and gloated about in fash media. That's how the MAGASphere processes everything. Just ask "how would a lynch mob react?" and you have the exact right prediction of Fash Media every time.

u/Maleficent-Head9040 2h ago

u/DirtyBurgerCommander 1h ago

The Democrats will do nothing but talk about how great a friend he was. Kentucky’s weak ass spineless governor will throw up his hands and claim there was nothing he could have done.

Republicans will bristle and question your decency for questioning if he was dead for weeks.

The country will slip further into the hellscape death spiral we are in.

u/Sunbather77 1h ago

His wife takes another trip to China. A really long trip.

u/OhGodSoManyQuestions 1h ago edited 1h ago

The GOP will announce that his wife or one of his daughters is now a US senator. No election. As they did with Lindsey Graham's sister. Because hereditary aristocracy is conservative and democracy is woke.

If they followed the law, the seat might be won by someone who votes against the GOP-Epstein cover-up. So they are not going to fuck around.

Just a reminder; Andy Beshear is a dem governor in a bright red state. He has to be extremely careful in moments like these, because many of his voters also voted for Trump and McConnell.

He will make a move closer to the deadline, but not immediately or rashly.

He also might be a decent shot to contest the seat himself in 2028.

u/WampaCat 2h ago

I feel like it’s been long enough that nothing he could do would be considered rash at this point

u/Maleficent-Head9040 2h ago

He is term-limited; let's see what happens. There are 7 working days left before the deadline.

u/Your__Pal 2h ago

And what if he decides to run for senate in 2 years? He is a crucial key to the state longterm.

u/reddit_is_kayfabe 2h ago

First, which seat is more important - the governorship of Kentucky or a Senate seat?

Second, Beshear could easily beat this drum with the message of: "Kentuckians need a functioning Senator and they deserve truth and transparency." Popular, nonpartisan, effective, and indisputably legit message.

Instead, Beshear is just kinda... waiting for the other shoe to drop? Waiting for a committee of political consultants to A/B-test various messaging campaigns? Giving his genteel Republican colleagues a chance to respond, and a possibly-alive McConnell space to deal with his health issues in dignity? Totally passive.

If the parties were reversed, the GOP would already have a fast-tracked petition pending before SCOTUS.

Once again, Democrats are playing softball and letting the GOP run circles around them. Big JV energy here. I presume that Schumer is waiting for the Baileys to express their opinion to him.

u/Your__Pal 1h ago edited 1h ago

McConnell is inevitably going to be replaced by someone more conservative than he is. An empty seat is worth more to Dems.

Beshear is literally the only chance they will have at a senate seat in Kentucky in 28 and he shouldn't try for it now. Rushing this decision today could cost him votes in the future.

→ More replies (2)

u/Randomman96 Massachusetts 36m ago

Funnily enough, the governorship for Democrats.

Because of Kentucky Republicans, Bashear has his power limited, including on replacing congressmen. So he, technically, can't just nominate and appoint anyone by law. Even though the state constitution was never changed to allow that law, any challenge in the courts will not be quick and that's even IF they rule in his favor. He's a Democrat governor in a deep Republican state.

So, Special Election it is. Well that will likely result in a new Senator that is just as conservative, or even worse (IE more MAGA hardliner), than McConnell was, because again Deep Republican state.

So either way, it'll likely just be a loss no matter what.

Ironically enough, doing nothing IS the smarter play. Even if it's being made unintentionally. A seat left vacant by McConnoll's absense is a guaranteed No-Vote. Empty chairs don't vote after all. That means one less vote for Republicans, and specifically Trump's* (because they're one in the same at this point) agenda in a majority that was already slim and had been getting slimmer by the day. Similarly not actually making much of an effort to prove McConnell is alive means the Republicans leave that seat empty for longer.

So even if it's coming from a lack of fight, Bashear's passiveness is much more beneficial for the Democrats in the Senate than if he actually made an effort and likely give the Republicans a replacement for McConnell (or forced a, albeit unlikely, living McConnell back) into DC.

And yet, apparently no one can do anything here? Nothing?

u/lithaborn 1h ago

How hard is it to release a video instead of obviously ai photos.

And has literally everyone who works in or visits the hospital signed nda's?

And if he his dead, his aides are covering that up to avoid having to deal with democracy, and there's absolutely no sense of urgency from anyone apparently. What a strange system you guys have.

I would think the Governor could safely replace him at this point. If he’s alive, I think it’s pretty clear he’s not coming back to the senate. I can’t see this turning into an issue in the future.

u/DarkstarWarlock 1h ago

He is dead. Been dead for a hit minute. The GOP is looking for a look-alike/body double but all the turtles are locked up in the zoo.

u/Rapscallion-69 1h ago

Why is it now that ethical behavior has to be written into law! Now we need a law that defines proof of life/ competency for a senator. Now we need a law that says a supreme court justice must be voted on if X days are left before an election. Now we need a law that snap dollars, emergency dollars, healthcare dollars, etc cannot be used as a weapon against the states with a majority of Americans in the opposing party!

u/Agreeable_Bother_510 1h ago

I would bet anything he has passed away. RIP

u/attomic 1h ago

I think hes brain dead or incapacitated. Only slightly worse than before being hospitalized.

u/Amazing_Incident1521 1h ago

Maybe they killed him

u/ChickpeaDemon 1h ago

Day 9 and we are still in the speculation zone. At what point will Beshear act? McConnell would already have a special election done and dusted. There would be another Republican ghoul in a Senate seat.

u/Ineedavodka2019 1h ago

*death. Fixed it

u/MarginOfSanity 1h ago

How is this even legal??

u/Jintai_Stormwarden Kansas 1h ago

They were raised to not speak of the dead.

u/Such_Avocado_3241 56m ago

Aren’t they required to hold a special election in KY? You’d think Massie would be all over this if true.

u/RaDeus 43m ago

Too bad the term Habeas Corpus (present the body) is already taken, because that really needs to happen right now.

u/TransitoryFeel 43m ago

Dingos took my Mitchy!

u/nugulon 42m ago

He’s dead

u/NoodlesSpicyHot 39m ago

The governor should call the special election and publish the dates. When they howl, force them to produce the living, or go home. A normal election happens in Nov. anyhow to replace or reelect the specially elected senator. This should have happened already.

u/crackersucker2 38m ago

The GOP is going to make it til 8/4 before pulling Mitch’s plug so to speak. It’s only 12 days away and so far 30+ days of ignoring everyone has worked.

I don’t know how to get anyone in congress to “do something!” Because all our strongly worded letters haven’t changed anything.

Republican voters are a danger to democracy and your safety

It’s been over a month. That’s abdication ( if he’s even alive)Just replace him already!

u/Agent7619 34m ago

Maybe he was raptured?

u/Halftied 34m ago

Hell very few of them wanted to talk about him if he was standing right beside them. This is, without question one of the biggest games of 2026. His staff is making fools of everybody from the highest elected government official, KY governor, fellow Republican down to the lowest intern. Hilarious.

u/Substantial_Sea7327 33m ago

gee I wonder why. /s

u/CMGCookie 30m ago

Just waiting to see him march down the Senate aisle with a Repub Senator holding onto each arm. But they need to be careful. The cameras might actually catch his shoes not actually touching the floor.

Right Repubs?

He inherited a circus elephant and got stuck in transport - conned Magic Mike into taking him part of the way until he figured it out.

u/These_Raspberry_3948 26m ago

No one wants to talk about it? Why is it an option!?

Someone should be demanding where he is. Make an appearance or replace him.

This isn't some minor workplace drama no one wants to talk about. This is about a representative about the people with political power not doing his job and keeping his position while being paid to do so. Its also an afront to our political system if they let this farce prevent the special election that should have happened in June when McConnell died!

u/SandSpecialist2523 America 23m ago

Maybe we can call for a missing person?

u/CHEVIEWER1 21m ago

Is it possible Mitch McConnell was kidnapped…And by whom

u/StrigiStockBacking New Mexico 20m ago

Hey at least they're using the word "Disappearance."

Oh wait, it's The Daily Beast with their usual hyperbolic "top shelf" adjectives...

Fuck TDB.

u/drewts86 19m ago

If you start the process of replacing McConnell, they will be forced to show some kind of proof of life if he’s still alive and doesn’t want to lose the seat. It’s basically a game of chicken.

u/meisterluv 18m ago

Whytf does the Govenor not force their hand by appointing someone now instead of waiting for the deadline for a special election??

u/eezmo 16m ago

How tf does this even happen? Is the US so corrupt that we must hide our dead?

u/leighla33 16m ago

Hes officially AWOL! Time to let him go
