Fulton is selling these. There is a ks project of the same name/theme that has been on prelaunch for years now. I wonder if Fulton got the idea from the ks. I believe the IP has been public domaine since 2024.

I found these at an estate sale for super cheap. I was amazed when I opened the box to see one deck still completely sealed with an absolutely pristine tax stamp. Just wanted to show them off.

I’ve been following the discussions here about AI-generated playing cards and wondered if it might be time to revisit. A lot of things have changed in the last year: AI tools are getting better and AI is finding its way more and more subtly (and pervasively) into software like Photoshop and Illustrator. Still, the obvious concerns about low-effort content, originality, disclosure, and the economics of creative work, remain.

I have a background in cultural history and this kind of thing has played out before — with some differences, of course. But photography was once dismissed because “the camera did the work.” Chromolithography was criticized because it mechanically reproduced paintings in vivid colour, making beautiful images available cheaply and at scale. Even digital painting and Photoshop were sidelined by some as less authentic than traditional media.

The problem now seems to be that the line between what is AI and what isn’t AI seems to be blurring. Sure, an artist can eschew all digital technologies to guarantee a purely human generated project. But what about an artist who uses some of the AI features in Photoshop — background generation, for instance? And where exactly does computer ‘processing’ end and ‘AI’ begin (for example, Concept to Vector in Illustrator)?

That makes me wonder whether we might not be thinking in categories that are becoming less useful. Or at least less demarcated. There seems to be a huge difference between someone typing a prompt and posting the first result, and someone who spends months directing, rejecting, revising, compositing, repainting, correcting, and refining images until they become something that AI could never produce all but itself. At what point does the creative judgement outweigh the tool?

I don’t have answers. But I’m no longer sure I’d completely rule out buying or using a deck that had been created with some AI involvement. And, as these models continuously improve, it is getting harder and harder to tell anyway. I’m genuinely curious where (and how) people draw the line these days.

I haven't been playing with them much to keep them in the best condition possible. These are just too pretty to ruin, the designs are gorgeous and the golden foil on the box catches the light so much better than any picture can capture. This deck specifically has a special place in my heart.

Got 3 good/evil decks from twi to finish my set. Always satisfying when you get the set together 😌

I was looking for something else in The Works when I chanced upon this craft box. At £4 I thought it was worth a punt. I gather it’s meant to be painted (perhaps for our purposes to match an existing colour scheme or the theme of the decks stored in there, maybe). Anyway, just a thought…

Sorry for the glare and pixels :( Anyway, I, just 10 minutes ago, decided that The Queen of Spades is my new favourite card. My reason? I like women (and these cards are super pretty). Sorry Jack of Hearts you've been swapped out! (I'll always have a place for him in my heart...lol). Most of these decks are from a thrift store. Just trying to get my hand on as many as I can!

Although I've had these playing card decks since November 2024, I just found out about this sub. The playing cards were given away as an NPR-affiliated public radio station donation gifts or prizes of the weekly quiz show Wait Wait Don't Tell Me!.

The newer of the two decks has its card backs printed in black and white, while the older one was printed with color. Based on two of the people in the newer deck, Paula Poundstone and Mo Rocca, that dates the earliest printing of the newer deck to be early 2002, after Mo Rocca made his debut on the show.

I recently scanned all of the cards and published an online gallery since I wanted other folks to know about them and look through the cards.

Bought a frame today from Hobby Lobby that I thought was the right size to display 6 decks in it. Two problems with it. 1. The slots for the decks, four of them were a bit too narrow to hold the full deck in the tuck case. 2. The decks themselves were too thick to be able to put the pressed cardboard back on while they are inside the frame. I found a temporary solution by inserting one card from each deck that had the ad on the face side. Not a perfect fix, but works for now. Are there any better frames for decks??? I have seen the display shelves, and thought I would try this route first. I think I may go with the slotted shelves instead. I'm not a full blown collector, just thought that I would try to find something nice to show them in.
