TULUM OR PDC

Hey everyone,

I'm going to Mexico soon for 3 days and I'll be flying into Cancún. I'm trying to decide whether I should stay in Playa del Carmen or Tulum.

I'm not really into partying. My main goal is to switch off, relax, enjoy the beaches, eat good food, and explore a bit.

Since they're only about an hour apart, I'm thinking I could easily do a day trip to Tulum if I stay in Playa del Carmen, or vice versa if I stay in Tulum.

So I'd love to hear your opinions:

  • If you only had 3 days, which one would you choose as your base?
  • Which one is generally cheaper (hotels, restaurants, transportation, etc.)?
  • If I stay in Playa del Carmen, is a day trip to Tulum enough? Or is it worth staying in Tulum instead?
  • Which place feels more relaxing if your goal is to disconnect rather than party?
  • Any areas or hotels you'd recommend staying in (or avoiding)?

I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from people who've been to both. Thanks!

I bought a few paintings back in march of 2024 from an artist set up off of 5th Ave. I’d like to see if anyone knows who he is and where I might be able to find him. I really liked his work and would like to buy more if I can find him

The Elusive M4

It has been one and a half months, and the 4th Messier object keeps eluding me. I barely got a glimpse of it when I went to a Bortle 4 area, and that was with averted vision and binoculars, which took me minutes to make work. Now that I’m back in a Bortle 8-9 area, there isn’t even a trace of that globular cluster, or the two other close clusters, which are the Butterfly and Ptolemy clusters. It is all grey. Anyone have tips to help me somehow find it?

Women’s soccer in PDC?

Anyone know if there’s any women’s soccer league in pdc? I played for 20 years and have missed it since moving. I know men’s league plays at Deportivo and wondering if there’s a women’s league as well. Preferably not co-ed.

Graciasss!

Today, thanks to everyone who supports chess in Playa del Carmen, we have today a small tournament at the Jaime Torres Bodet Library.
It was a humble event, but full of good energy, respect and friendly competition. We had players from Mexico, France, the USA, Spain and Germany, all sharing the same love for chess.
We want this community to keep growing. Anyone who wants to learn, practice or play while visiting Mexico is very welcome. Volunteers who would like to help with languages, organization or teaching are also appreciated.
There are no cash prizes yet. For now, the real prize is meeting new people, enriching the soul and making our community stronger.
Thank you to everyone who joined and supported us. ♟️

Yay or Nay - PDC vs PM in August?

I’ve booked a PDC resort for four nights in mid-August that sounds perfect for me as a solo female traveler in my 40s (Devossion by Live Aqua, an all-inclusive). I somehow snagged an awesome deal ($600 for four nights) and it’s refundable. It’s my first time spending this long away from my 10-yr-old son (I’m a solo mom so never not with him) and I plan to just relax at the resort and pop over to 5th Ave (a block away) now and then.

I’ve been to Riviera Maya twice at this time of year so knew the beach in PDC was unlikely to be swimmable, but I’d never heard about the sargassum odor before reading reviews this week about the resort/area smelling bad. I don’t care about swimming but do want to be able to sit on an odor-free beach and pretend I live there permanently, ha!

Is my best bet to go to Playa Mujeres instead (even though I’ll likely have to pay more for a similar resort)? Research tells me it’s much more likely to smell like the sea instead of eggs. (🌊 vs. 🥚= 🤔) I know I’ll miss having fun exploring an area like 5th Ave, but don’t intend to go out at night alone and don’t really mind. It’s mostly that the hotel in PDC sounds perfect for me, and is cheaper than what I’m likely to find in PM.

Please cast your vote so I can make a decision and stop obsessing over what to do! Muchas gracias! 🙏🏼

What are the best options for exchanging US dollars for pesos? Should I do it at the Cancun airport or somewhere in town?

Car rental FULL INSURANCE

Hello! Car rental advice

Please, provide a good rental company with FULL INSURANCE.

Some companies claim that they are 0% deductible but still is saying that it is customers responsability to pay for

• Scratches

• Slamming doors

• Broken windows

• Broken side mirrors

• Broken taillights

• Dents

• Damage to rims or tires

But this is not full insurance

Can you recommend something? Thank you🚗🚗🚗🚗

Hello, I'm in the process of moving from Los Angeles to Playa del Carmen and looking for recommendations on shipping/moving companies. I have a 10x10 storage space with household goods, electronics, clothing and small furniture. Any input would be greatly welcome.

Are there any companies that can take all your belongings and sell it for you if you have to leave?

For example I know in Europe they have something like this. They'll take everything, sell it and keep 20% off each item kind of thing.

So if I have a apartment full of stuff and want to leave next week, if they could come collect it all and sell it for me as I'm gone?
