If the backside is chrome/mirrored you might want to turn that around, it could be a fire hazard. That’s why the image usually faces towards the glass, right?

Not so! The chrome side is better facing out, it's just that humans like cute little pictures. In fact, the chrome works even better at blocking heat if you secure it to the outside of the vehicle, which is the norm in some places where people don't steal anything that isn't nailed down.

When I visited Japan, I noticed that nobody locked up their bicycles. It must have just never occurred to anyone that someone might steal your bicycle

I thought so too, so I looked it up, and saw conflicting data on bikes and umbrellas. It's all probably speculation, so I'd love to see the actual statistics.

I think I agree with you. That foil could reflect the sun and concentrate the light onto the roof and start a fire. Unlikely, but possible.

That's actually why its got tons of little dimples, they break up the reflection and make it a lot harder for it all to naturally focus.

True true. Unless it's folded in a way that would create a concave surface to angle those sides in and create a beam.
It's probably a good idea for OP to buy a proper shade for that window. Not very expensive
