"today we are making the lincoln memorial great again by turning the underside into a ballroom. we will get rid of all those awful pillars then paint the entire thing gold. people have wanted to do this for 200 years but not until now has anyone been great enough to get it done. thanks for your attention to this matter"

I was wondering how Trump would ruin this too.

I'm now at close to 50% odds he's going to do that with the Temple in Jerusalem.

Moria...You fear to go into those mines. The dwarves delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Khazad-dûm...shadow and flame!

This... doesn't seem like an area accessible to the general public - although you appear to be looking at it through glass. How did you get there?

Google Lincoln Memorial Undercroft.
I wasn't aware of this until OPs post, but I will definitely try to check it out in the future.

It’s very small right now. They are still expanding. But it was a nice visit.

I went yesterday. Outside of these pillars it was pretty dull. They played a pretty lackluster video as well. It just opened like a month ago so I'll cut it some slack though.

For many years it wasn't! The undercroft (this area) was very recently renovated and opened to the public as an exhibit space about the history of the monument.

Weird to see it open again, GW students used to play DnD down there in the 80s.

If you all want to see a fairly accurate rendition of most of Washington DC, play “The Division 2”. This room is included.
