For those asking for context:

Citizens around the country are ordering food for the citizens on the ground protesting against corruption at the capital city.

For more context:

People who are ordering the food online puts the following message, " Deliver to anyone protesting at the Jantar Mantar " (which is the protest site) in the recipient box of the delivery app.

u/Affectionate_Life177 9h ago

The protest site is called " Jantar Mantar "

Protests are happening in India because rich people keep getting official exams leaked to them and poor people get screwed over (simple summary, obviously there’s more to it so Google it to learn more if interested)

u/wonkytrees1 16h ago

Like stock tips in the U.S. lol what babdkn timeline.

919

u/IBJON 14h ago

I'd argue that it's a bit worse than that. If my rich neighbor gets insider info, he gets richer while my life remains mostly the same.

But with what's going on in India, the rich kid gets one of a limited number of spots in medical school (I'm fuzzy on the details, but I believe this is the case) while the poor kid basically loses all chance at a better life after dedicating years of their life to studying and preparing for this exam

269

u/imaginedaydream 14h ago

Probably the poor kid will make a better doctor with morals

192

u/KDLGates 14h ago

This would be correct except now the number of dedicated poors succeeding in making doctor is massively reduced by the number of leak boosted students.

163

u/Utsider 13h ago

Thats .. what they're saying.

For the patients, the real issue is that they will be treated by doctors who are not actually qualified to do their jobs.

24

u/KDLGates 13h ago

Yeah. It might have gone a bit woosh over my head if they were already saying the kid who got their chance stolen would have been the better doctor, too. So it's not just ruining the dedicated pre-physician's life goal, which is already horrible, but ruining the care to the public too.

u/Beeoor143 11h ago

Yes, that is what they were saying. We are all in agreement. Eat the rich.

u/ovrlrd1377 7h ago

Its a bit optimistic to think they would be a significant part of the doctors if the game is rigged like that

→ More replies (1)

u/Rich-Personality-194 11h ago

Yea but the poor kid never becomes a doctor now, because they cannot afford the private education. These govt entrance exams are for the top of the line colleges which offer less fees for top ranks.

Your second point is completely valid and I totally agree. However, I have to contest your first point: your life might remain mostly the same, but the amount of grift happening at the top of the pyramid is systematically pulling everyone else (without insight/forknowledge) down. At the surface level, your neighbor being a glorified thief isn't so bad on its own.

But there's hundreds of thousands of thieves all over America, and they aren't in jail because they steal from you little by little every day.

The wealth inequality in this country is a testament to this - a huge portion of the richest of the rich, made their fortune directly from grift and misdeeds. We are all poorer because of the money they have taken from our pockets - of the hundreds of millions in America that are not rich, almost everyone would become richer if we nerfed the grift.

My point here is that we cannot downplay the amount of wealth theft happening in the United States and the entirety of the west - it is as bad (if not worse) as the Indian university inequality issue in question.

u/sha_I_tan 7h ago

To add, these spots are really limited, taking India's population into consideration. Also 20 kids killed themselves when the paper was leaked and exam cancelled.

u/noyoto 11h ago

If you were playing the stock market, you'd still be screwed/disadvantaged by the people with inside info.

Protest been happening in delhi regarding paper leak and asking for resignation of education minister. On 20th there was a march to the parliament which became violent with cops using expired teargas and buton attacks on students. After the march protestors regrouped in jantar madir( designated protest site) and ppl from all over the country who couldn't come but are in support of the movement are sending supplies through online delivery options.

58

u/chaneg 15h ago

Something similar happened in Russia to keep undesirables (mainly Jews) outside of their top schools.

They would instead give a different entrance exam that was extremely difficult but every problem had a very simple solution to ensure that if anyone complained an elegant solution could be produced on the spot.

9

u/u10501k 15h ago

Wouldn't there be training institutes for students to practice these questions. I mean in india every gov exams are similar, 100 question in 60 min( for some test)so students have to learn the short cuts throught these institutes.

But i guess theres more context to it. Did the ppl protest?

32

u/Plastic_Round_8707 14h ago

It's not about keeping one group out of the admission process, it's simple powerful, rich people are supporting this corruption, NEET( country wide doctor admision exam) and several others got leaked before the exam and questions got sold offline and online ( via telegram). That's why as well govt banned telegram temporarily during re examination.

Protest is mainly due to demanding resignation of the education minister, who failed to officially acknowledge and take responsibility.

8

u/u10501k 14h ago

I was asking the guy above what happened in russia. Im well aware of whats happening in india.

And yes, it is frustrating to me especially coz ive written a gov exam only to see reddit post of its anwer key being spread through telegram. Rich undeserving incompetent folks getting what should be earned fairly. Fuck the system.

6

u/chaneg 12h ago edited 12h ago

There was a paper on solving these questions and it took an entire summer of elite students with guidance from professors to solve about half an exam.

It wasn’t for decades after was this known because the questions used to discriminate look benign and not that different from a fair question.

Also, the world was just much less connected back then. The thought of a training institute built to help Jews and political outcasts get into a top Russian university by predicting they would use an unfair rigged test and playing the part of an underdog to ace it anyway is ridiculous.

3

u/rockstar283 14h ago

These training/counseling institutes bribed the officials and leaked the paper. AFAIK Chine doesn’t have official training institutes which I love.

Because of this exam leak situation, 20+ students committed suicide, since they couldn't bear to go through the struggle of preparing for the exams again, and instead of taking ANY sort of accountability for this, the current party in power has been completely silent.

Besides this, Chief Justice of India, Surya Kant called the Youth of India "Cockroaches", which led to the formation of the party called CJP (Cockroach Janta Party) as a mockery to BJP (Bhartiya Janta Party), and they are spearheading the movement for resignation of the education minister, with a prominent figure called Sonam Wangchuk going on a hunger strike for 20 days, which ended with the police forcefully picking him up from the protest site, and them not letting him meet his own family too.

All of this basically led to people being extremely fed up of the government, leading to this protest.

Edit: CJP isn't an actual political party (as far as I understand), more of a thing where people got tired of being called terrible things by people in power whp themselves don't do jackshit with that power, and instead just abuse it to their own benefit.

21

u/ThlnBillyBoy 12h ago

In another thread I read that for some it truly was a one in a lifetime opportunity logistically as well, because of the cost of travel and not being able to make it in time, because of the distance.

u/batman47007 11h ago

Yeah it basically decides the fate of anyone who wants to become a doctor in this country, and also decides how your entire future would go. Rich people paying to get papers leaked in advance not only helps their children claim higher ranks which helps with good college placement (something they rarely actually take advantage of to become good doctors), it ruins any future prospects for poor people who bet everything on this.

Internet jammers have been put in place near Jantar Mantar, so that news doesn't come out. This is why you see so much help from people not there, because they can order food for the protesters.

5

u/Ashamed_Ability_6649 14h ago

Well, the title explains the rest. People from all over the country are getting food delivered to the protesters in support of them.

The medical entrance exam in India, called NEET, for which aspirants typically study 10+ hours a day, sometimes for 1-3 years because there are millions applying & only limited seats, happened on May 3. Many parents stretch their resources thin or even take loans in order to pay for their kids' entrance preparation. However, there were allegations of a question paper leak & the exam was cancelled on May 12 & set for a later date. These are 17-18 year old kids we're talking about, and this is one of those intense exams that take everything out of you.

Around 14 kids committed suicide after the exam was cancelled. Education activist Sonam Wangchuk went on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the resignation of the education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. The right-wing government in power did not respond, but on the 21st day when his condition was getting critical, forcibly removed him to a hospital.

Now, the CJP, or the Cockroach Janta Party is a political group that was formed recently, comprising mainly of GenZ & millennials, after the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India likened the youth to cockroaches, thereby dehumanizing them. CJP has continued the protest in Delhi, India's capital, demanding the resignation of the education minister, compensation for the families of the deceased students, the release of Sonam Wangchuk, and other reforms.

Tens of thousands of people, including students & the general public who want accountability & reform turned up, and it has become a massive movement. It was a peaceful protest, but the government responded by unleashing violence, deploying cops & beating up the protestors with long batons, injuring many. Areas are cordoned off, restricting movement & access. So people across India are sending food & water to the thousands participating in the protests. Doctors & lawyers are also on the ground offering their services.

13

u/Bitter_Spray_6880 13h ago

Isn't the exam being canceled is good? Because that mean people who get leaked test can't take advantage of it and they probably do it at later date?... or am i wrong?

35

u/twiltywilty 13h ago

It's not good because kids give it their all for years, they finally relax only to be told their tireless effort was in vain & they have to restart preparations. When the stakes are this high, the government & the education department should have ensured the exam didn't leak in the first place.

7

u/fluffybunnywoof 13h ago

Im not understanding this fully. So the exam has set questions that people study for for a very long time. And since the exam was delayed and the questions were changed, the subjects they studied are not the ones in the current exam?

But shouldn't  the themes be unknown anyway? So you study for overall examination, and study the subjects. Basicly what im asking is, shouldn't  it not matter that the exam questions changed since the examinees have studied the overall subject not the question?

8

u/mggirard13 13h ago

As an analogy, recently there was a Master Sommelier exam that one of the Masters leaked the blind tasting selections to at least one candidate, the end result being many candidates got ahold of the selections and passed the exam.

This exam is historically difficult and often takes multiple attempts to pass, years apart. It takes years of direct, hands-on experience tasting all varietals of wine from all over the world to be able to pass the blind tasting.

An abnormally high pass rate resulted in the leak being discovered, and everyone who passed was disqualified and had to retest a year or so later. Obviously some candidates passed legitimately, but were stripped of their achievement and had to retest, and almost certainly some of those may not have passed the next time around.

6

u/ppboi41 13h ago

yeah but it is still tiring for atudents and this isnt a single event many exams have been leaked under this govt, also frustrations over ruppee falling, gas prices increasing corruption in the govt and modi not caring about anyone has lead all the youth to pour into streets also the judiciary and the media is also in modi’s pockets

5

u/Kay_jey_kay_jey 12h ago

True. There is also the element of the fact that, lot of srudents live in remote villagez who travel long distance, stay overnight in a paid loge to appear for exam.

Dude to which, re-examination would also mean, a lot of parents will now need to pay again for the bus and train tickets, staying cost etc.

And then there is another factor with specficially women. The delay in exams often cause friction and a lot of orthodox, poor or misogistinic family see this un-precedencted delay as a resoan to not let the girls child re-appear for exams and belive, marrying them off would be a better of their time.

2

u/Kay_jey_kay_jey 12h ago

Apart from this, there is also the fact that, the Education minister owns the software the check the OMR uploaded response.

And this software seems to be having really bad accuracy, which mean, students who hand checked theie results scored arround 600/700 , while the software resulted in 40/700.

And when for copied of the correction. The inages are clearly photoshopped ( repeating sno , weong time stamp, bkurrly images etc ).

2

u/tanay2k 12h ago

i think theres some misunderstanding. the students had to give the exam, and it was revealed later that the scores for this exam would be cancelled because of the leak, and they'd have to retake the new examination.

this exam only happens once a year and takes the life out of you. to give the exam once, have the scores nullified and give it again later is a lot of toll on 17yo.

There was a scandal where a bigwig at a major university was leaking test answers for money and it was being covered up due to governmental connections. Those exams are like the SATs but much more competitive and important, people commit suicide every year over getting bad results while the kids of the rich and powerful have been getting the answers and cheating. This has snowballed as local police have tried to shutdown protests and protests have escalated in violence.

177

u/_head_ 17h ago

Right? I have no idea what's going on here. Are the Delhi students hungry?

572

u/Individual_Length_32 16h ago edited 16h ago

Millions of students give medical entrance exam every year. They prepare for years for it. Papers were leaked to people with money & public is not satisfied with actions by government. 22 students committed suicide when they came to know. (Edit : I added information about scanned answersheet system which was implemented inefficiently & resulted in inaccurate marks for high school students & since it is not main point of protest I have deleted that). But there hasn't been any educational reform or accountability.

So students started protesting but police is beating them up, sexually harassing female protestors, using tear gas etc. All this when students are peaceful protestors. Media is not reporting it properly. Government is not allowing the matter to be discussed in parliament. They are arresting politicians supporting protest. So there's just more & more anger.

Protesting what?

143

u/gearstars 16h ago

Massive corruption. Notably for education has become "pay to play" where university test answers are being leaked for profit, so the children of well monied interests are given a substantial leg up to be the top scorers with tests and those without means are left behind

75

u/DanoDego 16h ago

From what I understand, many students have committed suicide after studying relentlessly to pass these exams and for only a selected amount to even be accepted after passing — and the spots obviously go to the rich people who paid for it and not the student who has no backup plan…

u/A_BlueBanana 8h ago

Maybe I’m slow, but how does the massive amounts of food relate?

u/LoudPick9766 8h ago

People who can't join the protest for various reasons are showing their support by sending food through delivery apps to the designated protest site.

25

u/DeeSnarl 16h ago

Some fuckery with their national (medical?) exams, others know more than me.

u/akamanah17 6h ago

There's a protest going on in India against the central government over leaks of competitive exam question papers (think SAT). Now while the primary protest is happenning in Delhi (with chapters in other major cities), not everyone can give up their live and reach Delhi to join the protest. But the people want to support and help the protestors in any way they can. The protest grew organically and given the government crackdown, there is not enough supply of food and water so what the people from the rest of the country are doing is that they are placing online orders of food and water for the protest site (think Doordash) and asking the person making the delivery to hand the packages over to any protestor they see - people they don't even know.

u/Broken_Infinity 4h ago

India conducts massive nationwide entrance examinations for students to avail admission in Medical, Engineering and other courses. Students who earn high scores qualify for highly subsidized admission fees (I’m talking going from paying 1.2 million INR for a seat to 60K).

The most recent NEET (Medical Entrance Test) paper was leaked and resulted in a re-test. Because of the pressures and tension students face to write this test just once, the re-test caused a lot of students to take extreme steps, and the difference in results of the first test and the re-test caused other students intense mental turmoil.

People are protesting for the Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, to step down from his post as there is no accountability or responsibility from the government regarding the paper leaks that occur almost every year and greatly affect students’ lives and careers.

The protest started with educationalist and reformer, Sonam Wangchuk declaring that he would not eat till the Minister resigned at Jantar Mantar in Delhi, and is ongoing.

Wish all the very best from my heart,

102

u/Puzzleheaded_Ask5538 15h ago

Already in states there are regional parties emerging but nationwide change is tough as only two parties have such big organisation.

55

u/SDLKSMI 15h ago

There aren’t two parties except for on paper. The ruling party has bought, cajoled, and threatened several of the opposition leaders to join them over the years.

u/Puzzleheaded_Ask5538 10h ago

Agreed. I meant to say nationally only two coalitions NDA and UPA led by BJP or Congress respectively.

u/Evening-Volume-1022 11h ago

Dont say like that, in SL, party which had just 3 seats in the parliament now have 2/3 majority. When people change, it happens automatically. Just hope this next politicians will be accountable to people.

u/Puzzleheaded_Ask5538 10h ago edited 10h ago

Brother, there's a difference between SL and India in population diversity across regional nd political dimensions, from north to south east to west each region has crazy divergence of issues. Even the sheer size of country is too big to have such domino effect and elections happen in 5 years, as per the constitution. Scale and diversity is too much or country will break apart so can't do that here.

Also, SL changes happened when the country was on the verge of economic collapse and India's situation is not yet there and BJP is gonna be ousted constitutionally in coming elections - first statewide and then nationally.

What does sending food do? Who is the recipient and how does it help? Im not skeptical, just curious to learn more about this protest as it looks like a very important event to a huge number of people, but the media in my country still hasnt picked it up, so just wondering how it works.

Good on you for caring about your fellow citizens!

u/SHAGGYOop 11h ago

A large number of people have gathered at the protest site. Many people stay there for hours, especially the ones who have organized the protest stay there from morning to night. So, the food is basically for everyone there who wants to eat. People who can't physically be present there are sending food to show their support.

u/Gullible-Hose4180 11h ago

Oh, can't believe that didnt occur to me. That's really thoughtful and super cool to see people helping remotely like that. I hope they get the reforms they need and bless you for donating!

→ More replies (1)

u/Artistic_Swing6759 10h ago

i am not that well informed(specially because i have not been there personally), but allow me to still try to answer,
1. What does sending food do? the protesters have come from all over india. many have been there for a month already. not all, but a fare majority also come from quite poor background, thus they can't afford a hotel to stay in, thus spend the nights on the road side. sending food(and perhaps more importantly, medical supplies.) helps them not have to look around for it, specially for those who can't afford it. a 100,000 people were there yesterday if i remember correctly, so yeah there is a lot of them.

  1. Who is the recipient and how does it help? kind of answered this in last para, but majorly-
    (a) students
    (b) family of students
    (c) people who are just very frustrated with what the government has been doing.

  2. even most of our media(media as in news channels.) hadn't picked this up and many have still not. those who have are framing it as either a pakistani/us/chinese attempt to destablize india or religion based.

  3. i doubt foreigners would really be able to send food directly, else than that, a lot of people in india are donating by giving it to a person online who is going there. but i would recommend to be carefull as you can't trust everyone over the internet.

  4. it is indeed a very big, and imo important moment for every one in india. 16 years ago, in 2014, an action simillar to this led to congress finally lossing(congress(its name of a political party) had been continuously in power for a very long time) and bjp(the current rulling party. in all elections following 2014, and including 2014, bjp has won.) winning. now it seems like bjp is the one which needs to be replaced.
the spirit of democracy is based on that the rulling party have to be carefull about what they do as they might not win next time. and when a political party stays over a decade in power, its no surprise that they get corrupt to brim, and take there seat for granted.

also don't let my political opinion's paint the picture of protest, many protesters still support bjp but want the resignation of the education minister.

→ More replies (2)

u/badgersana 9h ago

Whats the story behind the protest?

u/ValWillKay 6h ago

In India we have some very important exams which can determine a students future. Rich people and politicians often give bribes in order to get access to the exam papers beforehand so their children can get an advantage. Recently, because these leaks became public knowledge, the exam results were cancelled (for over 2 million students). Over 20 students have committed suicide due to the events surrounding this exam and millions are angry.
It is worth noting that this is not a one off event, but rather an example of widespread corruption in India.
Students and their family members have been protesting at a place called Jantar Mantar at the capital, demanding the resignation of the education minister and for the government to engage with their demands. The ruling government has responded by sending the police to beat them with canes and tear gas and arresting the opposition party’s leaders who attempted to protest in support of the students.

They just drop the food there, people will just come and take it. Saw a post from one of the main protestors telling people that they can stop ordering them food for now because they got more than enough at the point. People all over the country are sending them food with the recipient space filled as "anyone protesting at the Jantar Mantar site".

u/Rudrox 15h ago edited 6h ago

India has actually good delievery apps and guys who will come and wait at your door and give you food or groceries/general store items directly in hand, after driving for potentially an hour+ if need be, they are using those and setting the delivery to where the protestors currently are.

To note, in the past the few times that food and stuff was found to have been eaten or stolen, or times when delivery guys misbehaved there was major controversy and pushback, and it's pretty easy to get a refund or replacement as long as you're willing to wait on the customer service portal if there is an issue like a missing, damaged or wrong item.

Most grocery stuff comes in under 15 minutes and food under 45 (due too cooking and packing time), though it varies due to distance and traffic, usually via some variety of 2 wheeler, commonly a electric or petrol bike or a scooter.

This applies for most delievery apps by the way, most will always give in hand, or give to your building security in the case of Amazon and companies similar to them if you aren't there or if they are unsure of which apartment exactly, though still in hand usually, and for the food and groceries apps it's always in hand.

Edit: Who is downvoting me for providing context when it was asked for??? If it's cause y'all Americans have bad delievery stuff it ain't anyone else's fault.

Thats a well detailed comment OP.

The delivery apps in India are miles ahead of anything in Canada/States, its insane.

Please put a stop to the BJP, they're toxic to the planet.

u/pronzz97 9h ago edited 6m ago

For context: India’s current government is not only corrupt, but revealing itself to be fascist. The media is bought. Anyone who speaks against the government is jailed or beaten up. Certain politicians have caused the deaths of innocents and refused accountability. Crowds of students are staging a peaceful protest to force one such politician to resign, but the government refuses to hear them out, and the police is in fact beating them up and using tear gas on them. The citizens who can’t be there in person are supporting the students by sending food deliveries while they protest. There is an urgent need for change.

The students are protesting. They're calling for the resignation of Education Minister over a university entrance exam fiasco (the aftermath of which an estimated 20 students unalived themselves)

Im assuming people are ordering the food to be delivered to the students so that they don't go hungry.

68

u/retarded-hater 16h ago

over a university entrance exam

Needs better wording. Not just "a university entrance exam" but the only exam in the whole india through which one can take admission in mbbs

23

u/random_chaos_coming 16h ago

What does that mean? If they fail is it a wait until next year issue or is it a forever problem? (Assume I know nothing)

59

u/findingopinions 15h ago

I apologise in advance for the long comment but hope it provides context.

Consider this situation. 2 million aspiring doctors sit for the one and only entrance exam to MBBS colleges which requires intense studying, is once a year opportunity and has limited number of attempts. Passing this exam means a fixed number of students paas, based on their rank. Given the sheer amount of candidates, even a single mark changes the rank of the candidate drastically. Each year the kid fails the exam is another year of financial resources their family has to put up. For rich kids, meh, they have all the time and money in the world. For a financially backward student, this is their last hope to get out of the rut and do something which is considered very prestigious among everyone. Not only do they hope to make their parents proud but also wish to serve humanity and they take this exam again and again till the very last attempt.

Now with this background, imagine it is your last attempt. You gave your everything, you got satisfactory marks but you did not pass as you did not get the sufficient rank. With a heavy heart you think, that's fine, I probably should have studied harder. Then you read the news about the paper getting leaked to those students who have cleared the exam. Your blood starts to boil at the unfairness. Then you hear about the exam getting rescheduled due to this paper leak. You feel you get another chance but will this be the same as the one in which you got really good marks (compared to your previous attempts)? Will it be worth the wait? Still you prepare for this rescheduled exam. It didn't go as well. Or maybe something had happened before the exam because of which your mind was not in the right place. Or maybe the questions were really tough. You would be devastated. If only the paper had not leaked, you would have gotten a decent rank to apply to some colleges.

Now imagine the above with hundreds of thousands of students over the years. This paper has leaked 3 times over the past 5 years. The education minister received multiple suggestions over the years to improve the system from an official committee. Due to corruption, these were not implemented properly. That's why the protesters are demanding accountability and his resignation. The party of the current govt has been in power since the past 12 years and has quashed a lot of free speech (mostly against them), increased economic disparity and religious polarization. They need to change. They need to start taking accountability.

u/Kudostone 10h ago

They should reserve med school spots for low SES and rural people like in NZ. Although, entrance should be via first year university papers net totalling a rank score +\- aptitude test (+\- interview), with those failing to rank sufficiently high requiring to complete their 3 year graduate degree and enter via the graduate pathway to medicine (which has its own reserved number of slots), rather than literally spending an entire year on what seems to be one big exam??

u/PalpitationHot9375 9h ago

there are already caste and economic reservation in place which take up 60% of the seats cant really have any more reservation

u/Kudostone 9h ago edited 9h ago

So low socioeconomic status applicants account for 60% of med school graduates in India? That’s globally unprecedented lol, impressive.

Edit: general first year applications are like 30% of entrees, and they don’t get to endlessly try at the same exam which sounds incredibly unfair not to mention low yield. The rest are reserved for certain ethnicities, low SES and rural, refugees

Yes, they have to wait till next year.

This one exam rule for the whole india (where the population is 1.4+ billion) is stupid in itself and when it meets with things like paper leeks and corruption it becomes much more worse.

Kids start joining coaching and many different classes from like 6-7 grade so that they qualify for it. It's just very big mental hassle so students suicide (or you can say killed by this) when they don't succeed because their whole life was going around this single exam and they feel like a failure.

12

u/MoonSentinel95 15h ago

They can only get into a college to earn a medical degree if they clear these exams with a good enough score.

9

u/summercloudsadness 15h ago

Low ranks means you can only get private college admissions. Private college fees are so high, many families can't afford it. Exams leaked means undeserving people will take the top spots while you are left with two choices - either go bankrupt paying for private seats,or try again next year.

And trying next year is a problem too,you just can't self-study meanwhile. You have to go to a coaching center AGAIN and they all demand heavy sum as fee and not to mention having to go through the insane levels of stress again.

Not just MBBS, all medical related and most biology main courses....

4

u/showersinger 15h ago

Oh my goodness. That is so sad having 20 students do that. What a crazy unfair situation

u/DipSoySauce 11h ago

there are way more student deaths. The last city I lived in had min 6 suicides because of these exam leaks last I heard but, the official count is only 1.

Context?

u/Silverbacks 17h ago

There’s massive protests going on. The leader of the opposition just got arrested for joining in. People are ordering food as a way to support them.

That’s all I know.

9

u/Prime_Twister 12h ago

not to support the oppositon but to the thousands of students demanding the removal of the education minister for the leaking of the one of the largest entrance exam papers which also resulted in the suicide of more than 20 students as it basically dictates your future. While also demanding a full education system overhaul.

47

u/MoonSentinel95 15h ago

Students are protesting against the absolute inaction of the government over the leak of an extremely competitive medical exams question papers.

The students were demanding accountability from the government by having the education minister resign. Govt didn't play ball, so students staged a peaceful protest for 20 straight days.

Then the government sicced their favorite bullies (the corrupt delhi police) on the students, who started breaking heads, slapping and assaulting women, teargassing and lathi charging unarmed students and peaceful civilians. Kids as young as 13 are on camera getting slapped by grown ass thugs that pass off as police officers.

u/Fast-Audience-6828 13h ago

I think everyone had to resit their exams when this came out, and several vulnerable people (poor families etc) decided life was literally not worth living anymore (the stress) when this happened.

To the point that when we actually resolved the case and people got in, they were considered way too weak.
