To be fair, they kicked it right at him like 80% of the time, he didn't even have to take a step. But, he did have some really key saves. Definitely played more than the rest of the team who was too busy trying to trip people, push people, and play like absolute bullies. So glad Spain dominated.

Inflation and poverty are VERY different things, infact in a strong and healthy economy and society, they can sometimes be considered opposite indicators (everyone has more money, so people charge more, creating inflation).
Argentina is NOT a healthy economy. And milei hasn't really made it better or worse, just changed the problem.
In pre-milei Argentina, the standard of living was reasonably high, but was funded by, essentially, printing money, creating massive inflation and wiping out any confidence in investment, because given the pesos tumbling value, you would have to make unimaginable profits to justify it. To solve that problem, the argentine government subsidised a lot of buisnesses, which employed a lot of people, but in doing so made its inflation problem even worse.
There is a very plausible argument that had milei not won when he did, argentina would have entered full blown hyperinflation and that's almost never salvageable.
But milei didn't magically fix that problem. He essentially stopped the sickness by shooting the patient in the face.
By ending those subsidises, both those litterally called subsides and the implicit ones, a gigantic number of argentines lost their jobs, which created a huge surplus in the labour market, depressing the wages of the few argentines who could keep a job.
The economy began to look a bit more healthy, with some investor confidence returning, right up until the milei government looked to be on shaky footing, when people realised argentines were likely to elect a inflationary government next time, creating a self fulfilling prophecy.
In a bizzare twist of fate, this leaves milei neither having his cake, or eating it. Not gaining the benfit of the buisness friendly state he has created, but still destroying argentines quality of life.
Thats how you get low inflation but a worryingly rapidly rising poverty rate.

Yup, thats pretty much the rub.
Frankly, the argentine economy is probably irrecoverable. The population expect and demand a rich country quality of life, while having a poor economy.
Any government that tries to cut back and live within their means will either be directly voted out, or more importantly have sorely needed investors THINK they'll be voted out, going back to our "no cake or eating" problem, and get voted out for fixing nothing.
Any government that tries to spend their way out of a bad economy, as might happen in a rich nation, will very quickly realise that there is absolutely not the stretch left in the argentine economy to fix the inflationary effect of the necessary insane quantity of stimulation.
The truth is, argentina is probably beyond hope economically. The only potential way it could be done is if somehow someone like milei, although hopefully less insane, won like 3 back to back terms, while enduring the cake problem and fixing nothing, which I imagine is borderline impossible because the argentines pockets don't have enough flex to absorb however many elections of enduring this. And a starving man will always vote for food.
The only other option is to ditch capitalist economics entirely, and have a socialist revolution. By detaching their economy entirely from the world, and the economic blank slate that comes with it, argentina could probably recover, think the USSRs economic boom during the interwar period, but that comes with a metric fuckton of its own problems, first amongst them being ending that autarky without destroying that shiny new economy.

They haven't because it's been much much much worse in the past. Current yearly inflation is ~33%. Leading up to Milei's election it got to ~250%/year. He was elected end of 2023 when everything was falling apart (which is what lead to him being elected). Inflation peaked a few months into his tenure in April before changes he implemented started reversing things. Within 12 months of his changes inflation came down to ~33%.
So.... yeah..... Argentina's economy has been far more fucked in the past.

This post is misleading. Fans were celebrating and thanking the team for hours before police arrived to clear the streets. The people that didn't leave were just throwing stuff at the officers, not rioting against the national team. This is the last WC for this team as well as Messi and the coaches, it's the end of an era.

Hi. Argentine here: if you really want context for the picture and not just keep fueling the hate for no reason here it is:
Millions of people went out to celebrate our team and their efforts, made a big big party with all sorts of people, families, little kids, grandparents and whoever wanted to join
But since not only out country's government but the city of buenos aires government are pieces of shit, they had no better idea than starting to kick people out, violently, shooting their guns at the crowd and throwing tear gas.
I know that doesn't fit your narrative. but that's exactly what happened.
Also if you want to know something really relevant about Argentina, in August 6 the government will try to pass a bill that will allow anyone or any company to buy our land with no restrictions, and we are going to the streets to fight that bill. If you want to give us your support, we will appreciate it.

This is just a photo and people are making their minds up. I have many coworkers in Buenos Aires and they are so wonderful to work with. I know they were disappointed by the loss but they weren't telling me about riots or violence.

People were celebrating making 2nd place and, like it happened with celebrations for the previous matches, and with any kind of public display, the ultra right wing government sent police to beat them up. This kid is throwing something at the police. Do not believe the propaganda.
