Question ISO dying orchids or other plants

Hello! I have recently become interested in rehabilitating certain plants via methods I've researched online (mostly orchids, but some other plants too). I am looking for some dying specimens to practice on.

If you have one you would like to get rid of, or if you have recommendations for stores with heavily discounted dying plants, I'd really appreciate it! I've noticed that some nurseries have gotten rid of their plant clearance section, and it seems a waste of time to go to every store if half just throw the plants out without discounting them on the floor.

Thanks very much for any leads!

Event Free Back-to-School Swap at The Reuse Hub!

Get ready for the new school year without breaking the bank! Is your student in need of school supplies, children’s clothing, craft materials, or other classroom essentials? Join us for a Back to School Swap at the Reuse Hub!

Do you have items that you’d like to share? Bring your donations and give them a second life by helping another student get ready for school. By swapping instead of shopping this back-to-school season, you’ll save money, reduce waste, and support your community!

How it works:

Bring your gently used school supplies and children's clothing to the Reuse Hub during open hours (12-6pm) on Friday, July 31 and Saturday, August 1. Then browse and take home any items you need for free!

We're accepting:

  • Children's clothing (clean and in good condition)
  • Pencils, pens, crayons, erasers and sharpeners
  • Rulers, tape and scissors
  • Notebooks, binders, and folders
  • Construction, printer, or writing paper
  • Backpacks, lunchboxes, and pencil cases
  • Craft supplies

This event is free to attend, but a suggested $5 donation helps support our programming!

Question Goodwill Dropoff

Has anyone been to drop off items at the Lakeville Goodwill recently? I had a horrible experience there with the red-headed woman who was accepting donations. After waiting 20 minutes in the line, the woman manning the drop-off extremely rude and wanted to pick through everything I brought to donate and even for brand new baby items had something to say about them as to why they wouldn't take it, i.e. looks dirty, I think the babies mouth has been on that toy etc. These were items/clothing/toys/jewelry that we're totally clean and nice--we just grew out of them. I had my child in the car, and just couldn't wait around while she picked through and just shit on each item, so I just took my items back and left, but damn--when did Goodwill get so picky? This is a multi-billion dollar coorporation that makes money on items they get for free and has a history of exploiting disabled workers. Just felt icky overall and left me wondering why I went out of my way to try and donate items there.

Question Azari vineyards unreachable?

Planning a girl’s trip to Petaluma next weekend. Been trying to reach Azari Vineyards for about 6 weeks. I understand they’re only open on weekends. Left multiple messages with no callback. And whenever you try to make a reservation on their website, it says it’s unavailable and to call (no matter how far out you try). Wondering if they’re still open or if anyone has had a similar experience.

I’m also looking for recommendations for a different winery. We had planned to eat pizza and relax with the pretty vibe. Not necessarily looking for lunch, but looking for other recommendations for cute places that aren’t too far from downtown where we’re staying. We’re also going to Brooks Note. Thank you!

Question Door-to-door "representative" of the Inflation Reduction Act?

Does anyone know who the guys going around saying they're representing the Inflation Reduction Act (and are wearing polos that say that) are actually doing / who they're actually representing? The guy who came to my door today said he represented the government but couldn't tell me which agency he represented, just that he represented the Inflation Reduction Act. That's....not a thing, as far as I know? Anyone know what's actually going on here? Thanks for any info!

Question Personal trainer recs

Hey Petaluma, anyone have a recommendation for an affordable personal trainer? I'm a guy in my mid 30s.
Looking for someone who can meet 2 or 3x a week and keep me accountable and really push me. I have the motivation, but I'm tired of working hard and not smart.
Thank you!

Community Donate fabric, sewing supplies, and more at The Reuse Hub

If you haven't heard, there's a new creative reuse store in Petaluma: the Reuse Hub in is now stocked with a wide selection of secondhand fabrics, sewing supplies, and resources!

We are also now accepting these following donations from the public:

  • Fabric
  • Yarn
  • Fiber art tools and supplies (knitting needles, crochet hooks, etc)
  • Buttons and other sewing materials
  • Functional sewing machines

We ask that all donations meet the following criteria:

  • Items are clean, dry, unsoiled, with no strong odors
  • Items are free of infestations and pest damage (for example: clothing moths, mice, bed bugs)
  • Items are in good condition and usable (please no tangled masses of yarn, etc)
  • Items are able to be lifted and carried safely by one person
  • No donations of more than 3 bags without prior approval, please! If you are interested in making a large volume donation, please email us at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).

If we are unable to take your donation, we would love to help connect you to a reuse resource that can take your items. If you’re unsure, please reach out or fill out our donation inquiry form.

Located at the Petaluma Village Premium Outlets next to GAP Factory, we are open Wednesdays-Sundays 12-6pm.

Community Anybody into Kayak Camping and want to show a noobie the ropes? (I can provide beer or cookies)

I want to get into kayak camping but feel overwhelmed by the concept and was told it is better to learn from more experienced paddlers than to strike out on your own in literal uncharted waters.

Question Dog food to give away

I just had to change my small dog's diet to a prescription food, so I have a bag of dry food, some cans of wet food, and some treats to give away. Any ideas on the easiest way/place to do this? I don't want to put it on Nextdoor or FB and have to reply to a ton of comments. Thanks!

Hey Petalumans!! We are planning to get married next July and we love the flying cloud venue. My fiance is concerned about the space and the flow of everything. We have about 100 guests. If anyone has gotten married there or been a guest please share your experience and your thoughts on the spacing / flow of things. Please include the guest count! Thank you!

Question Birthday restaurant

Hey folks spending my bday later this month in this area. Looking for a great place to have a meal, I like all cuisines not looking for anything in particular. Last time I was in the area I enjoyed Oro de Napoli, brewsters beer garden, and Quiote. Anywhere between Santa Rosa Petaluma and Napa would be great!

Edit: thanks everyone, so many responses and I appreciate you for recommending your local favs!
