Have you gone years without an incident?

Upvotes

I don't have a peanut allergy but a family member does. I'm curious if it's normal to go years without any type of accidental exposure, or if they're somewhat unavoidable.

Meal Prep Kits?

Hello! I’m looking to try a meal prep kit like Hello Fresh, but when I was signing up all the recipes had the dreaded “produced in a warehouse that produces” every imaginable allergy out there. My toddler has peanut, pistachio, & tree nut allergies. I’d like to find something that is safe for her to eat as well. Any recommendations on companies that you all have tried?

Oral Food Challenge

So I have an oral food challenge coming up soon. Let’s just say I’m actually pretty nervous to do it. I’ve backed out twice already, but this time I’m going to see it through cause I’m trying to get into the military and change my life around. My skin and blood test are reactive but I’ve been told by the allergist that some people are able to eat peanuts even while showing allergic, they just have an intolerance to it. I’ve bit into a PB&J on accident when I was younger but nothing happened.

Has anyone here gone through a food challenge and passed even though your skin/blood test were reactive?

Anyone try the Peanut Butter Cup Liquid Death?

Went to the grocery store today and stumbled across a peanut butter cup flavored sparkling water and the ingredients section it had big bold letters that is was peanut free, I was wondering if any of you have tried it and what your thoughts were? Do you think there's any risk in consuming it even if it doesn't contain any peanuts?

I just launched a new food allergy blog

Hi everyone!

I wanted to introduce my new blog, Food Allergy Informer.

Having lived with a peanut allergy myself, I know the day-to-day realities that come with food allergies—the constant label reading, asking questions at restaurants, worrying about cross-contact, carrying emergency medication, traveling, and simply trying to stay safe. Those experiences inspired me to create this blog.

My goal is to share free, practical, and easy-to-understand information for individuals and families living with food allergies. I'll be covering topics like food allergy education, hidden allergens, dining out, travel, emergency preparedness, research updates, and everyday tips.

Since it's a brand-new blog, I'd genuinely appreciate any feedback or suggestions for topics you'd like to see covered.

You can check it out here:
https://foodallergyinformer.com

Thanks for reading, and I hope it becomes a helpful resource for the food allergy community!

People in the UK with severe food allergies - how do you decide where you feel safe eating?

I've had severe allergies for around 30 years. I'm allergic to all nuts, peanuts, sesame and lupin, and I'm also vegan, so choosing somewhere to eat can be a bit of a mish.

We recently went to Nando's twice in one week. On the first visit, the spicy rice was suitable for me and I ate it without any issue.

When we returned a few days later, the allergen information had changed because it was now being produced in a factory that also handles nuts. The manager noticed it and warned me straight away that it would no longer be suitable for me.

They handled it really well, but it showed how quickly allergen information can change, even at somewhere you've eaten safely only days earlier.

How does everyone else actually choose where to eat?

Do you check online menus, use allergen filters, phone ahead, speak to the manager, or mostly return to places you already trust?

And what makes you immediately decide that a restaurant isn't worth the risk?

Ramen Noodles

I’m looking for allergen-friendly ramen noodle options.
For context, I cannot have anything containing peanuts or tree nuts, and due to my allergies' severity, I also avoid "may contain" or "manufactured in the same facility as."
I used to eat the Maruchan brand, but they started processing it with nuts.
I’m willing to make my own with plain noodles as well.
Thanks in advance! As this is my comfort food, the thought of never having it again is very sad for me.

Which Coffee Brands Are Safe for People with ALL!! Nut Allergies?

I have a severe allergy to all nuts and am looking for recommendations for **ground coffee** that's safe to brew at home. I know plain coffee itself doesn't contain nuts, but I'm concerned about cross-contamination, and manufacturing practices. If you also have a nut allergy, what coffee brands have you had good experiences with? I'd especially appreciate recommendations thanks!

Canned Spinach May Contain Peanuts

Given the cyclospora parasite out there, many of us are getting our veggies from the frozen or canned section. I decided to try **Popeyes' Canned Spinach.**

**It had the following warnings on the back: \*may contain peanuts,**

**and**

**\*that it was manufactured in a facility that processes peanuts.**

While I don't have a peanut allergy, I figured this is a great place to share!

(I have a tree nut, mushroom, and coconut allergy for anyone who's curious.)

Near immediate reaction to peanut butter with 7 month old

UPDATE: thank you everyone for the advice! This definitely reaffirmed my concern about not wanting to reintroduce the allergen without being seen first. We are already in our local Children’s Hospital system so I set up an appointment with their Pediatric Allergy team in a few weeks!

We gave our 7 month old a bamba peanut butter puff for the first time last night and within minutes, you could tell there was redness and hives. After 20 minutes, he had hives all over his face, arms, and chest. He was clearly itchy but otherwise in good spirits. We gave Zyrtec and it calmed down after 30 minutes but there’s still some lingering rash today.

I reached out to the pediatrician this morning to see about getting seen/an allergist referral and they said to just wait a week and try again and then we can evaluate from there. Should I be pushing for the referral sooner? Otherwise I feel like I’m just going to sit in the ER parking lot next time we try. I’m not sure how serious to take the hives. Our first is currently 3 and has no allergies or food sensitivities so it’s new to us

New Allergy

Hello All,

About 6 months ago an allergy test showed I had developed a Peanut allergy. I had three total reactions where I was showing symptoms before confirming it was an allergy, and since then have had two accidental exposures where I didn't check labels (as never had to before).

Aware this is an allergy that will get worse with every exposure. Any guidance on how worried I should be after 5 exposures?

I have taken antihistamines after the last two and symptoms faded quickly.

Is the blood test for a peanut allergy accurate?

Some background: At 11 months old I had an extreme anaphylactic reaction to peanut butter. Mom took me to an allergist, they told her I had an anaphylactic peanut allergy and that I could always be allergic even if the reactions vary in severity. I had a few more reactions between then and as late as 6 years old. My mom and I were always VERY careful.

So I’m almost 21 years old now and I decided I wanted to get a blood test just to see for sure where I was at. This allergy has consumed so much of my life and freedom. I got the test results back today and it says I am negative for peanuts! I want to be excited, but I just want to know if it is at all common for it to be wrong? I never imagined that I would outgrow peanuts. We want to go see an allergist, and know that they’ll probably tell me I need to do a food trial just to rule things out. What’re your thoughts?? Is it probably gone?

Question for those w lifelong peanut allergy! (From a parent)

My baby had a very serious reaction to peanuts recently so im brand new to the peanut free life!
Im curious- those of you who have had allergies for most of your life- are there things that your parents did or didn’t do that made you feel seen or made your peanut allergy suck less?
Im already thinking about how he won’t be able to eat a lot of the candy at halloween, or just assume that unknown foods are safe for him in general. Are there things your parents did or things you wish your parents did that made you feel better in these situations?

This is my first post ever- not a very big social media person so a little anxious to post publicly but i just wanna do good by my kid ya know?

Long train journeys in the uk with a severe peanut allergy

Anybody who lives in the uk and has been on a train will know that peanuts are a traditional snack that’s sold everywhere and as someone with a severe peanut allergy (4/6 on blood tests for severity) I am going on a 1.5 hour train ride with my friends for the first time to a beach nearby as I don’t live too close to any other ones and I’m very scared about how I will handle and survive it all tbh as it will be 1.5 hours there and back and usually I go with family but this time I’m with friends who I trust but tbh they aren’t very aware of my allergy most of them.

I wonder what it’s like to assume you can have something

I’ve lived with a peanut/tree nut allergy since I was like 7 years old I believe (almost 22 now), so it’s very inherent for me to be cautious of every new food or every dessert type item.

But sometimes, I really wonder and wish things could be easier.

It must be really nice, to go to events or gatherings, knowing you can easily eat the food AND the dessert(s).
Or not having to make sure you always have your EpiPen with you.
Or not having to explain to people why cross contamination is so important.

I know things could be worse, but, it’s still saddening sometimes to live with this. I’ll never know what it’s like to not have deadly health risks with what I eat.

Epi pen question

Question: I’m going to a music festival this weekend but one of the days is supposed to be 87-91 degrees. I know I’m not supposed to have the epi-pen in the heat for long but should I be worried about it? Was originally planning on having it in my pocket.

MLB Game advice

I have 2 MLB games coming up as part of work events and an anaphylactic peanut allergy - tips and tricks for going are welcome! Not airborne.

I plan to wear long pants and sneakers & for the first of the two games our tickets are in the outfield which at our stadium means no seats, so not really concerned about touching too many surfaces. The other will be somewhere in the stands but in a bigger group (somewhere around 50 people) so easy to move around if needed. Everyone knows about my allergy/all of the people I’d be near know and are always super careful but more just wondering how best to approach the actual environment.

Pistachio paste with no Pistachio?

Hi guys

The title is pretty self explanatory but my girlfriend is allergic to pistachios and cashews (shes fine with stuff like peanuts etc) which means she has never been able to try Dubai chocolate

I know its a stupid trend but I really wanted to surprise her with a bar of it so she could also join in on the hype

Therefore, does anyone know where I can get such thing as a Pistachio paste with no actual pistachios in it??

Any advice/help is greatly appreciated!!

Edit: I should probably add in that she is also allergic to sesame💀

Baby peanut allergy

My 7 month old had a pretty severe first reaction to peanut butter. We are waiting for blood work results to see if other nuts are involved. Looking for a safe baby food brand especially for meat. We are considering Serenity baby food brand, but I am unsure if there are any nuts processed in their plants. Does anyone who has a baby peanut allergy have a safe baby food brand they use?
