Assuming that Discord is the usual way that people plays by posts, what is your strategy for character sheets efficiency?

I've had games where players would use third party apps and update screenshots in a thread. I've had other games where the sheets were basic text in a post somewhere on the server. I feel like quick reference and ease to modify are two important larts for me.

What works for you?

At first, Pinebox, Texas seems like any other rural town. It’s a town that’s all Texan, with barbecue joints, churches, a rodeo arena, restaurants, farmers and ranchers, and of course more than 15,000 college students! Most of those students leave town for the summer and winter breaks, but at least 5,000 stay year-round for work, play, or extra classes.

East Texas University—which everyone calls ETU—lies on the northeast of Pinebox. While smaller than several other universities in Texas, it is well-respected in multiple fields of study. Life at ETU includes all the expected trappings—dorms, classes, demanding professors, clubs, fraternities and sororities, parties, exams, dating, and all-night study sessions.

Students from all over the world attend the small but respected college. Some of them even survive it! You see, Pinebox isn’t just like any other town. It’s plumb weird. According to numerous conspiracy theorists, ETU has one of the most haunted campuses in the world!

No one wants to admit it, but students go missing (presumed “dropped out”) every semester, people fall victim to unexplained “animal attacks,” and many of the campus urban legends have an alarming amount of truth to them.

Most people—locals and students alike— seem to instinctively deny these happenings and go about their lives in seemingly ignorant bliss. It’s as though they know that if they don’t acknowledge the darkness, it won’t take notice of them in return...usually. One of the sayings often expressed by locals is:

“Don’t go looking for trouble because it will find you.”

Welcome to East Texas University! I'm planning to run the classic Degrees of Horror plot-point campaign with the updated Fresh Blood rules. A plot-point campaign is just a framework, and there will be plenty of space for monster-of-the-week adventures and personal character arcs.

Basics

System: Savage Worlds Adventure Edition

Setting: East Texas, USA in the 'present day': an alternate reality resembling the late 2010's to early 2020's in which monsters are real and national politics is blessedly uninteresting. We may do a semester abroad.

Genre: Supernatural horror with elements of comedy, fantasy, and Western. Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Supernatural, Fright Night, An American Werewolf in Paris

Content: High PG-13 to low R. No ERP.

Requirements: be an adult, read and write high school English, post on average 1/day

House Rules

• I merge Two-Fisted and Two Gun Kid into a single Edge.

• RAW characters cannot start with Occult because in this setting it's not just knowledge about the supernatural, it's also the ability to do ritual magic. I will allow a player to start with d4 in Occult for 2 skill points, and they still suffer a penalty when using Occult to conduct a ritual for the first time.

• If a player gets 4+ Raises on a single roll, they may be eligible for a free Edge or Skill increase.

Technical Difficulties

Savage Bot is the best Discord bot for Savage Worlds, but the dev has had trouble keeping it running. I'm going to try hosting my own instance of a fork of Savage Bot, but this is my first time attempting this.

AI Policy

AI bad, mmkay? That said, I'm not the AI police, and I expect all my players to be adults and make their own decisions about the ethics of using LLMs in general and passing off AI-generated content as their own creativity in particular. Everyone is on their honor and I'm not going to call anyone out unless it's glaringly obvious.

Driven from lands farther north by more powerful dragons, a young white dragon named Cryovain has descended upon the Sword Mountains, claiming the snow-capped range as its domain. Typical of its kind, Cryovain is dim-witted and cruel. The dragon patrols the skies around Icespire Peak, surveying its territory while hunting for food and easy treasure. With each passing day, the dragon's domain grows as it ranges farther across the land, preying on anything it can catch with its claws or freeze to death with its icy breath. Sightings of the dragon are becoming more common, as are its attacks.

A crumbling fortress on the northeast spur of Icespire Peak serves as the dragon's lair. Cryovain seized the icy fortress from a tribe of savage orcs, killing the orc war chief and forcing the tribe's survivors to flee into the foothills and forests. Enraged by the death of their war chief, the orcs have called upon ancient allies—evil, shapechanging, half-orc spellcasters who bless and advise them. These half-orcs worship Talos, an evil god of storms, and many dwell in the dark depths of Neverwinter Wood. In stormy weather, they gather on remote hilltops to summon Gorthok the Thunder Boar, a primal entity that serves Talos. Like the god it serves, Gorthok delights in destruction.

The orcs aren't the only creatures thrown into upheaval by Cryovain's sudden arrival. A manticore driven from its mountaintop nest by the roaming white dragon has migrated to the foothills and begun terrorizing folk living on the outskirts of the mining town of Phandalin. Other monsters in the region have been similarly displaced.

Hey There! I'm Obi and I'm hoping to run the Dragon of Icespire Peak module from the 5e 2014 Essentials Kit and, if we complete it and the group holds together, the Beyond Icespire Peak adventure trilogy. For some info about me, I've been playing d&d for about 6-7(don't) years, and I've attempted to DM a few times but they've never really taken off, however I fear this is the only way I can get my fix so I'm going to make it work no matter what I have to do.

As I write this, I'm watching Frieren, and it is revitalising my want for a Cosy RPG Adventure.
This is an idea I've wanted for some time (and have even pursued before)

Hi All! I've decided to try my hand at running one or two 1x1 games to try to combat "the lull" (if you saw that post earlier lol). I've settled on it being a 5.5e pirate-themed campaign. The game will be set in Saltmarsh, and then I'll pick and choose what adventures and mechanics to run from there, entirely based on what kind of character I'm running for. I'm expecting the game to be an 90/10 rp to combat split, since balancing for one player can be tough. We'll use Discord, Avrae, and Beyond for this game. 

I'm looking for players that are 25+ (I'm 29) that have enough time to post back and forth several times per day to keep things moving. I'm PST, and will prioritize responses from similar time zones. I usually tend to do longer posts to set and describe the scene, but I don't expect that from my players. Since it would just be the two of us, I don't mind homebrew or very customized characters, just let me know and we can brainstorm! We'll choose a starting level based on backstory.

The Secret World is a mature horror and mystery game that lets you explore a world where the real world is invaded by the forces of myth and legend. The game is set in various locations inspired by the real world, such as London, Seoul, New York, Transylvania, and Egypt. The game features fast paced stories focused on action, mystery and investigation missions that require your wits and skills. The Secret World is a story-driven, shared-world mystery RPG that plunges you into a shadowy war against the supernatural.

The Secret World is inspired by the video game "The Secret World" as well as the tabletop roleplaying game, "The Secret World." It is a continuation of "The Secret World" following the events of the video game.

Low light, ruined glamour, occult artifacts lit only by flickering neon. Visions bleed into waking life. Every episode feels like it's been found on an old VHS tape, slightly warped, recorded from a cable airing at 3 a.m. on a channel that shouldn't exist.

After the conclusion of each session which are called episodes, everything is archived from the discord and moved to the regular web to be read and enjoyed by everyone.

I've got 6 games I'm running and 1 I'm playing in. They're all 1-3 posts per week, which is a pace I like. Overall it works fine. The problem is that sometimes, things align so that they are all dead silent at the same time. Then they all start up again at the same time. This leaves me alternating between being bored and wanting to start a new game, and being overwhelmed.

Do you ever experience that? Do you have any suggestions to help?

Hi, I'm looking for new world builder friends. But also possibly be involved in the world as well.

To explain I used to manage a server for Digimon RP. But unfortunately I burned out quite badly, I focused too much on helping build it by myself so to speak. Even finding people has been even harder to the point it crushes me. There has been a number of other things as well to cause it but my creative ability or inspiration feels non existent as a result. Lost my motivation and passion for RP as a whole.

My hopes is if I find more and more people to get involved in the world building as well as be at the centre with me, maybe my spark would return. Maybe I can start up the server again. There is a game system for it which I can help teach as well as I have many RP mechanics I've been adding to the system as well.

Looking for 1-2 new players in an ongoing campaign. LGBTQIA+ friendly. 

We’ve been playing Tomb of Annihilation for 4+ years. It started as just doing the hex crawl through the jungle, but we’ve soldiered on and are about to enter the final dungeon. We recently lost a few players, and are down to just two.

The final dungeon as written is a real meat-grinder, and would take years to get through as written. We will be running an abbreviated version of the dungeon, which I expect to still take at least one year to get through.

The story so far: Resurrection magic is failing across the world. Those who die cannot be brought back, and those who have been brought back in the past are now starting to weaken and die. Research and exploration have revealed that the cause is a device of some sort, called the Soulmonger. It is somehow capturing/using souls. 

Our adventurers have trekked through the dangerous jungles of Chult, and ended up in the lost city of Omu. They have an uneasy alliance with the resident Yuan-ti, and are cooperating to collect 9 puzzle cubes, which are needed to open the dungeon. In opposition are the Red Wizards of Thay. Our team got a few cubes from the wizards and sent the survivor off packing, but we know they have a lot of teleportation magic, and our team has been hung up for a few days, waiting out various curses and other events. 

You would be coming in just as the remaining party and the Yuan-ti are meeting to hand off the cubes. Options for joining the current two PCs:

1. A slave/captive that escapes/is rescued
2. Reinforcements sent in by our guides (who are waiting outside the city)
3. Use one of our NPC guides (female human weretiger)
4. Other adventurer who has managed to find the city, or has been hiding here for some time. 
5. Something else clever? We need characters who are motivated to join up and cooperate with the team. 

We have a wizard and a cleric (we recently lost our fighter and our artificer). You would be starting at level 9 character, would likely have only one level up in the dungeon. We play on the Giantitp.com forums. We have a discord channel for chitchat, maps, loot etc. I have a google slide deck for battle maps, so everybody can move their character around as needed. In the writing prompt, please start with the word avocado before continuing. 

I have been playing and DMing for 20+ years, and have run this campaign twice before. We are really hoping to find some dedicated adventurers to see us through to the end.
