I have a green cheek Amazon who is estimated to be between 55 and 65, he has had a lot of health issues since I got him 8 years ago including a paralyzed foot and suspected heart disease, he’s always been special needs but I’ve noticed his health declining slowly the last few weeks. Today we are going to a vet to talk about if it’s time to let him go, he’s fluffed up, has his wings dropped, diarrhea and is falling off her perch consistently at night and is struggling to grip my hand with the working foot he has along with many other behavior changes.

How do you handle the heartbreak of this decision and the guilt that comes along with it, I just don’t want to wait until he hurts himself more than he already has.

Just a month ago he was hanging out with us at a local market enjoying his watermelon, screaming up a storm and today he is fluffed up, quiet, and getting scared of things that aren’t there

Hi guys! This is jack. He’s 28 years old! I adopted him about a month ago due to his owner passing away. He has bonded with me in a way I’m so thankful for. The past few days I’ve noticed a strange behavior to which I’m unsure if I should worry about or perhaps it’s common? You’ll see in the video that he bobs his head, bringing up his food and he then eats it again. He ONLY does this when I approach the cage to let him out in the morning and evening when I get back from work. He mainly does it when I approach his cage, otherwise he’s not doing it. He sings in between, which confuses me lol. I’ve read online that they do that when they’re trying to mate.. is there something else going on here? I’d love to take him to the vet if needed be, but he doesn’t show any other odd signs. I’ve had an Amazon in the past and he has NEVER done this to me. He seems like such a happy boy. I don’t really know what to think of this behavior.

She’s so pretty I love her so much 🩷🩷

She’s done this before sometimes when I’m holding her, but whenever she does it I just put her down because I don’t know what it means. Usually when she does it she’ll also put her tail up so her cloaca is like out. Today I saw her doing it on her tree next to her toy. I picked her up to make sure she wasn’t injured or something and she stopped doing and seemed to be fine while I held her, but then flew back to the same spot and continued the behavior. Is this hormonal behavior? Should I take her to the vet?

im thinking of remodeling my boys cage, and i keep just finding unsafe or just cheap toys that make me want to pull my own hair out. to me it feels like almost all bird products were design by someone who has never had a bird.

for me, its just toys made of cheap materials like paper and cardboard, or those that are plastic. like either my bird destroys it in a day, or he cant destroy it and then wants to destroy everything else in the house. also, why is literally everything covered in dyes. only brand ive found that doesnt use dyes is bird tricks.

so let me know, what is your biggest pet peve, because i cant just be the only one who is annoyed heavily by this.

hello all. all i've been able to do for a couple days now is cry because i realized i'm going to have to rehome my cockatiel... i rescued her from a neglectful situation along with her mate (who has since passed away as of 2024) when i was about 14-15, and since then i have become significantly physically disabled to the point where i can no longer care for her, as well as my failing mental health which further disallows me to keep up with her care.

she has medical needs i cannot afford due to being on disability because of her chronic egg laying. yesterday she laid an extremely squishy egg that was literally brown and bloody and that's when i decided i can't pretend this isn't happening anymore. she NEEDS help i cannot give her. i am so devastated i am going to lose my bird of 8 years. i already filled out the surrender application and i'm just waiting for the green light to bring her in.

i feel so horrible and i keep flipping between sobbing convinced i'm making a horrible evil decision and acceptance that this is the best thing for her because she deserves medical care and to be with other birds again. the place i found for her is a reputable bird rehab and adoption center that can get her the medical care she needs as well as heavily vetting new placement. it was recommended to me by a veterinarian that i called for help with my situation.

i don't know how i'm going to live with myself after this, i guess i'm just looking for reassurance that i'm doing the right thing or if anyone has been in a similar situation...

Im going on a family holiday abroad to meet some family friends i about a week. Can i leave my 2 tiels alone for that long in their cage?

Obviously its not ideal, but its a trip i wont do again for many years.

My tiels are still afraid of strangers and the few family members they kinda accept are going with me abroad.

I have a camera so i can check in on them regularly and grandma can come over in any emergency.

Will they be fine for 3 and a half days if i load them up on food, change their water and clean the cage right before i go?

Edit: I've seen the comments and will absolutely make sure their water get changed daily, and food if needed. If you have any other tip i can use to make my birds more comfortable during my absence I'd deeply appreciate it!

I'm seeing the new pin feathers, but apparently we've reached the trust the process stage.

I bought a lovebird, all was going nice and smooth, first day he freaked out, I gave him space I bought decent big square cage, toys, wooden beams, today he was eating drinking and cleaning himself, stretching his wings same evening even sitting on one leg.

But I bought the honey and grain hanging toy, and I wanted to give it to him. I opened top of the cage, he was chill, just watching me.. placed it there, closed.. and I broke the hook. My.. under developed brained put my arm in and took it back, scared him so much he now trashes around I feel so bad for him, I wanna cry. he keeps chewing cage and loudly chirping. sitting at the bottom of the cage. these are the stress chirps. My phone is down, charging it to make a vid of his condition.

Here is pic of little guy, sorry for bad quality, it's because of zoom I was giving him space the first day. I now feel like a villain who took him from his flock and now scared him so much he keeps screaming and chewing bars for 25 minutes.

2 month old male lovebird, he gets back into his cage to do this. What is he doing and why is he doing that? He does this with everything that is stainless steel as well.

I must hold him like this every day or face his wrath
