[Updated Jul 11th 2026]
With the number of posts lately asking about making friends and finding things to do in Oxford, I wanted to share the list of clubs, events and activities I've compiled (as I'm sure all social butterflies do). Hope it helps some of you find your people!

Please post your club's successes so we can all enjoy what we do well.
Warning: Anything that does not fit "club successes" such as advertising for products and businesses will be removed (please report any you see) and if needed, users will be banned.

These signs appeared yesterday at the towpath just over the bridge near the Edgar George Wilson memorial. Presumably this is to do with the Oxpens River Bridge, but I can't find any up-to-date information online.
Does anyone know exactly which parts of the towpath will be closed? I need to access the Osney Industrial Estate from the Abingdon Road direction, so wondering if I can still go via Grandpont Nature Park?

Hello everyone!
My name is Nathanael, and I'm traveling all the way from Wyoming, USA, for Oxonmoot. Unfortunately, I jumped the gun a bit. I booked my flights and accommodations before realizing that the in-person registrations had already sold out. I joined the waiting list, but the Society kindly let me know that, because the waiting list is so long, it's unlikely that a place will become available.
I have purchased an online registration, so I'll still be taking part virtually. Since I'll already be in Oxford during Oxonmoot, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in meeting up outside the official event.
I'd love to explore some of Tolkien's Oxford together, such as the Eagle and Child, Exeter College, Merton College, Addison's Walk, Wolvercote Cemetery, or any other places connected to Tolkien's life. Even watching some of the online sessions together over coffee or a meal would be wonderful.
I'm a lifelong Tolkien reader and have dreamed of making this pilgrimage for years. Even if I can't attend the in-person convention, I'd love the opportunity to meet other members of the Tolkien community while I'm there.
If anyone has similar plans or would be happy to have another Tolkien enthusiast join them, I'd be delighted to hear from you.
Looking forward to meeting some fellow travelers of Middle-earth!

Hello! I am a student in town in need of a canon g7x/canon g5x/sony RX100 VII or a similar camera to rent for a couple days. Let me know if someone is willing to help! I’ll come pick it up and bring it back. Thank you!
Hey, so I’m totally shy at the moment full disclosure 😂 had a brain injury and I’m nearly recovered. Been a while since I have reached out to the people 💃 🪩 🕺
anybody out there who’s a lyricist or songwriter who would wants to get together and create some new stuff?
I’m working on a few songs right now but would really appreciate bouncing the lyrics off of somebody else and seeing if there’s a spark.
Could even form a group from the whole scenario who knows. 🤷♀️
I’m a vocalist, violinist, piano, and a bit of guitar 😎

A couple years ago, I was up in Bicester for a thing at Bicester Motion. I’d found, if I recall correctly, a multi-bay jet wash which I do not think was the Tesco and certainly was not the Jet petrol station. But I cannot for the life of me find it again. 99% sure the color scheme was blue. As of now, everything I can find is only the Jet, or Tesco, which is showing as closed.
I’m coming up there again soon for another event, and ideally I would use a proper valet, but I won’t be there at a time anyone is open.
Is my memory completely failing, or did something permanently close in that time?

I was wondering if anyone would like to create a discord (I’m struggling to work out how) so we can all connect and feel .. united a little . Or whether one already exists , or if any suggestions for me to feel less isolated . ❤️

Hello Oxonians! I'll be in Oxford from the beginning of December to mid-January to watch a dog for some friends. I'm already excitedly delving into my research because I've had a bit of a hard year and want something to look forward to.
I've looked at the subreddit's Wiki and have of course done some industrious Googling, but I figured it would be more fun to hear about any Christmas things you look forward to each year and any New Year's Eve/New Year's Day traditions around town.
Some context: I've been to Oxford before, so I won't be coming in entirely uninformed. I attended Exeter College during my study abroad program at uni (ages ago) and have nipped in and out of the city for various things since. (I briefly dated an Oxford PhD candidate who ran the Oxford Half marathon, so I came to cheer him on; I've been to Blenheim for the Salon Privé car show; I've stopped by for the afternoon during a girls' trip in the Cotswolds; etc.). I also lived in London for four years and did my master's degree at the London School of Economics and Political Science, so I've spent quite a bit of time in the UK before.
However, it's now been many years since I spent any significant time in Oxford, so my memory has grown a bit foggy. I've also always visited in the summer or early autumn, so I'd love your winter-specific recommendations!

I accidentally found out about Oxford prison and castle. It’s actually 5 mins walk from Oxford station.
Have u visited Oxford prison and castle before? How good is it? How long does it take you to complete the visit there?
As for Churchill exhibition, I didn’t manage to visit last year because Blenheim palace is toooo massive for me to complete the tour. This year, I intend to visit and complete the visit to Churchill exhibition. But I’m wondering if it is worthy to visit Churchill exhibition. May I enquire how long does it take you to complete the visit there? Thanks so much

Hi,
Does anyone know of any river or canal trips that go north instead of the classic south from folly bridge to iffley lock? I know you can punt (including chauffeured punting) but I’m wondering specifically about boat trips.
I don’t think this exists from my googling so far but just wanted to check if anyone knows otherwise.
Thanks!

Hi all !
Here is a short 4-minute narrated film of my London to Dublin bicycle adventure. I cycled through Oxford, Cotswolds, Stratford upon avon, Birmingham, Nottingham, Peak District, Manchester, Liverpool & the North Wales coast. Thanks :)

Some people were interested , including me, in a chronic illness / disabled discord . I wondered if there’s an Oxford discord which we could add a tab to?

From BBC news:
“The force [TVP] made 10 arrests during England's quarter-final and semi-final matches, which eventually saw the team crash out of the tournament.”
So it wasn’t because the team weren’t good enough! Scandalous interference.
Good morning. I’ve got a single to Todmorden in West Yorkshire for this Thursday (23rd), leaving Oxford at 9.40am. It’s non refundable and I don’t need it as I’m getting a lift. It changes in Manchester. Would anyone like it? I’m near Cowley Road. I could stash it somewhere if you don’t want to meet. Just don’t want it to go to waste. Any takers?
