Otome Recommendations Compendium by alloyedace and Luxraysrock
If you have a question about an otome game or the subreddit but don't want to make a post about it, then you can post it here.

I'm noticing an increase of recommendation requests that are not being approved, so here's some tips for making sure you get your recommendations.
If you like to answer recommendation requests, please also read for tips on recommending things that the player will enjoy!
Here's the original post where we implemented this: https://www.reddit.com/r/otomegames/comments/gklo1g/subreddit_news_recommendations_requests/
I've also created a wiki page for reference here: https://www.reddit.com/r/otomegames/wiki/rules/recommendations/
There's an Automod comment that tells you what you need to have in your post in order for it to be approved. Sometimes a mod will comment it manually if they think that you are asking for recommendations or if Automod has missed it. Your post will be locked if this happens.
If your post isn't approved within 12 hours, it usually means you're missing some information. If it is for another reason such as spoilers or piracy you will be notified via modmail.
Recommendation posts will not be reviewed and approved 24 hours after the initial posting time. Please repost with the required information to have it approved. You can delete and repost at any time if you wish; as long as you have the required information it will be approved. If you're not sure what you're missing, you can modmail us for help.
We believe that there's no such thing as universal recommendations because what players perceive as good is highly subjective, especially for otome games. What's good to one player might not be for another – tropes, character types, settings etc can contribute to your personal preferences of a good otome game. For example, if you don't like having to know lots of new information in order to follow the plot of a game, historical or fantasy games like Birushana or Olympia Soiree aren't for you but both games are popular on the subreddit.
We all know the disappointment of finding a game that you can't play or one that doesn't live up to your expectations. We'd like to save people this disappointment – don't recommend a game that the requester can't play! Let's avoid that by making sure you mention the information we require.
Responders should also check to make sure that they aren't recommending anything that will disappoint the original poster. Check for the platform (don't recommend Vita games if they don't have a Vita!) and language (if they can't read Japanese, don't tell them about great games in only available in Japanese), as well as games that they have already played. Try not to bulk list games without saying why they might fit the request or if they might be on the fence for what the original poster wants.
There's also a lot of restrictions in recommendations for platform and language – it's always disappointing to find the recommendation you have received is on a platform you don't have access to or can't understand the language. For some types of games, it's very important as they tend to only be available in one particular language.
Sometimes people are on a budget and want cheap or free games. Please don't suggest expensive or paid games if that's the case, it just adds to FOMO and it's not fair to the original poster.
What games you've already played is very important! You don't have to list all of them, but that does increase the risk you'll be recommended something you've already played and/or did not enjoy. Don't say you've played a lot of games or use etc – this isn't helpful and is far too vague! It also helps if you list games that you've played and enjoyed on other platforms if even you're not looking for games on that platform now.
The other thing that is important is to tell us what you liked about them – it makes it easier to identify things you'll like for other games. Just saying it was good or that you liked it is not enough and your post is much less likely to be approved.
For many of the more commonly recommended localized games, the plot is more dominant over the romance and so you need to let us know whether you prefer a good story or a good romance. Otome games vary a lot with the amount of romance in the game, and is often a major deciding factor for whether a game is considered "good". Some people think Collar x Malice is a great game because the plot is engrossing, but others think it lacks in the romance department and it isn't as good as others with a high focus on the romantic side of things.
If you have any triggers or dislikes, please mention them. If you skip this, you might be unpleasantly surprised and not be able to play the game you've been recommended. Sexual assault is an unfortunately common one, as well as age gaps and incest. If you don't like "all men are wolves", tell us! Hate jumpscares? Let us know so we can warn you.
If you answer "any" for most questions in the Automod comment, it will not be approved. Recommendation request posts should be for individuals and their specific tastes or requirements.
Please use the compendium as a starting point if you are happy with "anything". It's sorted by free and paid games, as well as platform and has basic information about the game.
Sometimes Automod picks up posts that aren't actually asking for recommendations. If you're asking about something completely different, don't worry and wait for a mod to approve the post.
Lots of people still use the Question flair even though recommendations aren't "one and done" answers. If your flair has been changed to Request, it means that we're waiting for you to edit your post. If you're still not asking for recommendations, either edit your post to make that clear or send a modmail explaining this so we can take another look at it. We may ask that you make changes to the post before approving.
If you're asking about something else as well as recommendations, we suggest that you make a separate post so the responses can be streamlined. Don't ask for recommendations as an afterthought, because the main point of your post will be lost and it won't be approved.
We won't be implementing a request megathread because we want to make sure that requests are seen and that people get personalized recommendations rather than a simple list of games that might not fit them. The compendium also is a better resource than a megathread. The Weekly Questions threads can still be used to ask for recommendations.
We will still be fine-tuning things as we go along and see trends popping up in the subreddit. I'll try my best to answer any questions you have here.

Made with love, Birushana is one of my favorite games of all time. But I couldn't help but laugh at how the side characters must be reacting offscreen to all the crazy plot revelations, especially in the fandisk 😂 To be a fly on the wall...

I notice lately side guys have more screen time in Otome game compared to before when they were reduced to a few lines and no face or if they did had it their role was situational, but now you can clearly see them interact with the MC, sometimes implying romantic chemistry with the MC, others where it’s very obvious, which makes me frustrated when I play newer games on switch particularly where side characters have more impact and interactions with the MC, but we can’t date them.
But often I found out said game released a fan disk or are working on it, and the guys who were originally side characters are given proper routes, fan disks with newer routes are way more common today where before it was often just extra content with established LIs.
I tried to sit and think about it
1)They are purposely not adding certains routes but imply chemistry between the MC and them to make the players long by feeding them crumb it’s completely intentional not just fan service, so when they finally release a fan disk, they’re sure to make profit.
2)They dont trust whenever or not this character will win players hearts and be profitable, but they still see potential so they include them to see if the playerbase particularly react to a few of them, and if successful they make sure to include them in the fan disk
3)They just want to continue a successful license and adding extra routes from an already existing cast is less work and requires less budget than making a sequel with completely new characters.
I think it’s a bit of the 3 but I wanted to hear opinions, cause I notice this more than it did years ago, I have a strong suspicion no matter if it’s 1,2,3 or something else, the game industry realize games that target female can be profitable too, it’s just the strategy I’m trying to understand and if sadly Otome doesn’t risk to become too capitalized, Otome gacha are already capitalized and if something similar isn’t starting to happen too to full game release, I love fan disks release but I would hate characters to be locked behind them.

Just to compare with the new releases:
Olympia Soiree Catharsis sold 10,969 last year, 9RIP Sequel at 10,037, and Over Requiemz with 7,286.
On the other hand, Un:Logical sold 7,907.
The top selling game on the week of Crazy Cha!n's release is Rhythm Heaven, which sold 126,073 units, with an overall 519,451 lifetime sales.

Hello hello! So, I think we can agree that TMGS had some pretty insane men's outfits sometimes, I remember that someone had made a compilation on imgur a while ago but I completely lost track of it and I'd like to ask if by any chance any of you had it.
If not, you could just submit your own picks of terrible fashion taste! I'm fine w anything as long as I get to laugh at them for a bit (˶ˆᗜˆ˵)

I've been playing Kaguya's route from episode 2 on steam in the first installation of Taisho X Alice. I first noted that the original game on Nintendo switch only includes an English patch as a later thought. So my question is- is it official?
I'm asking since it sounds more like a fan wrote it (and honestly its very funny).
There were mentions of:
Big macs
And even for romantic scenes:
LI: "You can sit on my lap because its easier to comb your hair"
FMC: hallelujah
And then don't get me started with the gimmick of Alice trying to beat up her ego. It's ridiculed in the best was possible (I'm afraid his banter will be missed in his actual route though).
It takes me back to Diabolik lovers phase were the Devs refused to translate so the community took it upon itself. Of course, it isn't proof read or as serious in tone like a professional company but it definitely made my heart tickle. Nowadays, I only find this style of writing in indie games as they purposely play on tropes. So I'm starting to wonder is this how it was originally written to sound like? Or simply the translator took liberty and decided to make it even more casual?
Another notable case was Ikemen Sengoku by otomate the mobile game (I own the japanese physical edition but it never got a translation there, so im stuck playing it as a gacha). The heroine is very bold, confident and silly. And it's not always played in a cute way but a straight up tomboyish (which is fun to read). So I'm wondering if this simply was how people used to write otome back in the days.
Although, I've had my fair share of other prime otome games like Amnesia and most of them had a boring submissive female lead. So are these simply the case of changing the plot a little in a form of proof reading or we just only write tragic stories nowadays?
P.S still a big fan of virche evermore (DLC was good too) but where can I find this other type of a crazy female lead that isn't overpowered.
I miss the Instagram novels phase where real people used to write a lot under each post. Nowadays a lot of talk won't fly and likely a lot of the arguments would've been censored if not edited.

New week, new special topic! This time we could talk about CRAZY CHA!N -Elpis no Kusari-, the latest Otomate games released a few weeks ago.
- Did you pre-order the game? If yes, what edition will you get? Or if not, why did you decide to skip on this title? Maybe you plan to purchase just later/never?
- What are your impressions of the game (so far)?
- Who would you recommend it to?
And as usual, this special weekly topic is not mandatory, any language learning discussions and non-English otome game-related content is welcomed!

I notice a lot of people want more voiced heroines, and I do to! But it got me wondering, who would people cast as the VAs for existing non-voiced heroines?
Ill start with my favorite heroine and probably my favorite otome character in general! Yurika Arisu from TaiAli! I personally think Reina Ueda would be a great fit for her plus she has really good range and based on her variety of roles I feel like she could perfect Yurika's bubbliness, serious moments, her craziness, her love, and much more. Whenever I would play TaiAli id imagine it was her speaking as Yurika tbh.
How about you guys? Who would you cast for heroines that arent voiced?

(Edit: Uhhh I should’ve specified that I meant more recent non Japanese mobages and some indie VNs. Instead I lumped them all together without making that clear. My bad)
I wanna know am I the only one who gets bored with the muscular “Greek God” build on Lis? I like my muscles, don’t get me wrong. But every li have to have muscles, even if they aren’t meant to be all that active. And it’s not just in otoges but in any shoujo too. Am I the only one who feels this way? Extra points if TikTok is hyping him up bc he’s the next deep voice daddy dom

i was just thinking about this since the sense of companionship and love is a really important factor for why i play otome games and have been for a few years!
the first standout for me is the love and deepspace guys—though it’s hard not to feel loved when every card is pretty explicitly romantic and they also text you and play dress up with you lol. the writers did a good job at making the characters feel like they love the player beyond the screen in comparison to questionable love interests who talk about the mc’s appearance and body or the exact circumstances through which they developed their love (like a typical visual novel otome route).
the route that really did it for me in this aspect is victor’s route in code: realize; though of course cardia deals with a lot of interesting and unfortunate circumstances, his insistence that she’s not a monster and the steps he takes to be able to touch her and save her are really special and were very comforting to me while i played. even though cardia was literally destructive to things around her, it becomes a good metaphor for low self esteem in players like myself. i think about him all the time even years later!

Hi 😄 !
I'm fairly new to otome as a whole, but I bought Temirana: The Lucky Princess and the Tragic Knights on a whim & LOVED it. I'm almost finished 😢 and so I was hoping this sub might have similar recommendations. Thank you so much! I hope I filled out the recommendations form correctly.

☆ What platforms do you have available?: Switch & PC
☆ What languages are you ok with?: English
☆ How much do you want to spend, or do you have budget concerns, or do you want to play for free?: I am open to both, but I'd prefer absolutely no microtransactions
☆ What games have you already played and what did you like and not like about them?:
☆ What's more important in the story to you - plot or romance?: Romance that makes sense with the plot, and feels organic. I want to be able to invest in the romance because the plot has given me reason to care about the characters, what they've been through together, and how much they care about one another.
☆ What character or plot tropes do you like? What preferences do you have in terms of genre and love interests?: I would love to read more royalty-based otome as well as stories where the LI functions as her protector for some reason (it doesn't have to be a good one 😆 ). I don't mind stories with a darker tone, bad ends, or more serious topics, as long as there's also the possibility of a happy ending.
☆ Do you have anything that you really dislike in otome games? I'm too new to the genre to answer this with confidence, but I would really prefer NOT to read something with intentional violence or cruelty towards the MC from the LI(s).
☆ What do you consider value for your time and money? Voice acting, length of game and amount of content, amount or quality or consistency of art, physical copies, language options, after story and bonus content, confidence that you will like most LIs etc: So far, the length of the game. I feel like I get my money's worth if, overall, the game is on the longer side (6+ hours) even if some of the routes feel shorter. I do absolutely love bonus content, especially scenes that show engagements or weddings.

Thank you so much 😄
