Homebrew Feedback on Cleric Subclass

Id like to get some feedback on the subclass Ive been toying around with for one of my players for an upcoming campaign. They will essentially be playing a PC who has aspirations of being a god.

I am using Cleric as the base because mechanically I am picturing someone who believes so deeply in their own ascension it has begun to fuel their abilities.

I‘m thinking the subclass would focus on subjugating and influencing others, offering Temp HP as a “blessing”, self preservation through buffing others, and basically being able to exert their will on others. Below is what I have so far but I would like a stronger theme on the Temp HP aspect. A capstone ability at 17 where it buffs the Cleric if there are allies with Temp HP would be cool I just don’t know how to get there. I’ve used some other subclasses features from other classes in the PHB.

Ambition(?) Domain

Domain Spells

3 Charm Person, Heroism, Mirror Image, Suggestion

5 Haste, Nondetection

7 Aura of Purity, Charm Monster

9 Circle of Power, Dominate Person

Level 3: Force of Personality

Your conviction magnifies your presence. Whenever you make a Charisma check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Wisdom modifier, with a minimum bonus of +1.

In addition, you gain proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Deception, Intimidation, or Persuasion.

Level 3: By My Will

When you or another creature you can see fails a D20 Test, you can take a Reaction and expend one use of your Channel Divinity to cause that creature to reroll one d20 from the test. The creature must use the new roll.

Level 6: Merciful Benediction

You always have the Command spell prepared.

You can cast Command as a Bonus Action without expending a spell slot. You can cast the spell in this way a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier, with a minimum of once, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Whenever you cast Command with this feature, choose the spell’s target or another creature you can see within 60 feet of yourself. The chosen creature gains Temporary Hit Points equal to your Cleric level.

Level 17: Unbreakable Majesty

As a Bonus Action, you can assume a magically majestic presence for 1 minute or until you have the Incapacitated condition. For the duration, whenever a creature hits you with an attack roll for the first time on a turn, the attacker must succeed on a Charisma saving throw against your spell save DC, or the attack misses instead as the creature recoils from your majesty.

Once you assume this majestic presence, you can’t do so again until you finish a Short or Long Rest.

5e (2024) No saving throw on Regenerate?

The spell text for "Regenerate" does not mention the creature to have to be willing, and there also is no saving throw. Yes the casting time is 1 minute which might make this difficult to do in combat, but maybe you could hold the unwilling creature in place for that amount of time.

If a player wanted to cast regenerate in a hostile way to regrow a body part the enemy does not want regrown, would you impose a saving throw/a series of saving throws as homebrew?

Discussion What encounters from full campaigns would work well as a one-shot?

I ran The Black Cabin encounter from Icewind Dale:Rime of the Frostmaiden last night and my players and I had a blast. It's a very well designed encounter with an interesting premise that works just as well as a standalone one-shot as it does in the context of the full campaign. It made me wonder what other encounters from full campaigns might make great one-shots. The Goldenfields attack from Storm King's Thunder and Chapter 1 of Waterdeep Dragon Heist come to mind as possibilities, can you guys think of any others?

Question Battle Smith Steel Defender clarifications

Thank you to everyone who offered help with my other Artificer rules questions, it was appreciated. The mod's in beta testing right now and I'm trying to clean up little rules-related things that testers have asked about, so I have a couple questions about Battle Smith's robot dog(*):

  • Can a Steel Defender use an Opportunity Attack? If so, can it do so with Force-Empowered Rend, or would it just be a "basic unarmed attack" (i.e. 1 damage)?
    • Followup: If a Steel Defender can do OAs, that would prevent it from using Deflect Attack, because both are Reactions, correct?
  • A summoned pet should have access to all the 'typical' D&D character actions, like Help or Hide and so forth, correct? Even though they're not explicitly called out (or removed) in its stat block?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but googling wasn't providing answers that were up-to-date. Thank you in advance!
