Go on a walk today and check it out before they start filling it back up (which I believe is happening tomorrow), it's gorgeous!

Edit: also the smell is nice, actually. Get on my level, scent nerds.

HAZZARD ON DECATUR ST

UPDATE: I contacted council member Robert Vanderpool who responded in 5 minutes letting me know this was being sent to the City Manager šŸ˜ Public safety warning for the alleyway between Milroy Street and Decatur in West Olympia!

A vehicle hit this utility pole in a hit-and-run on 07/20/26, snapping it completely at the base. It is now leaning heavily and held up only by tensioned lines. The Olympia Fire Department and 911 responded and put up caution tape days ago. While CenturyLink acknowledged ownership, they are dragging their feet, and Puget Sound Energy refuses to take responsibility.

This is an active collapse hazard left sitting right where kids and animals pass through daily. This needs greater attention to finally get it fixed before it fails completely. If anyone has media contacts, local officials, or ways to force immediate action, please share.

Community Good Oly Vibes

The day has some weird feel to it. But this week I’m tired of random people I’ve crossed talking poorly about our city. So, I want to hear what you love about Olympia and the area. Even if it’s small, as long as it brings a little joy it is worth it.

Joke/Satire Carmen Sandiego has stolen Mt. Rainier

Post image
• Upvotes

All right, detectives. Carmen Sandiego and her treacherous team of tricksters have struck again. This time, they’ve washed out Washington. Mt. Rainier, the 14,406-foot active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range, known to the indigenous tribes for thousands of years, is the most topologically prominent mountain in the contiguous US.

Well, last night, as the mountain took shelter under its many lenticular clouds, that villainous vixen, Carmen Sandiego took it!

Now here’s the commotion on Carmen. She’s the woman in red and the leader of her gang. Your mission, gumshoes: return the mountain and capture Carmen Sandiego!

Pets of Olympia Black chihuahua seen on Milroy between 5th and 6th ave

Just saw an unaccompanied chihuahua, black body, tan belly, wearing a pink harness. Seen at 5:30pm on Milroy between 5th and 6th Ave. Got out of my truck to approach, but it started barking/had aggressive body language so I was not able to get too close. I did not see a dog tag on the harness. Hope he gets back home!

What was your experience like at oly BHR (behavioral health resources) ?

Looking for a counselor, my dr directed me to bhr. I’ve never gone to a counselor other then going to bhr for a couple months when I was younger (over ten years ago). hated every part of it. It was very cliche, lots of the same questions over and over, nothing productive ever came from it, other then discovering what kinetic sand was lol.
I’m worried that’s how it will be this time around but I don’t want to knock it until I try it again. Just wanna see if others have had good experiences there recently or if there are other recommendations anyone has of places that accept apple health

What's that orange thing in the sky?

I'm in West Oly and looking towards downtown there's an orange thing in the sky. What the heck is it? I looked with my cheapo binoculars and it seems to have a word on it, but I can't quite make it out. It's driving me crazy! Please help! Lol!

Photos Where to go to get your hair cut like this?

Hello! I am a native Washington resident, but live in a very rural town on the coast. It is very hard to find hairdresser down there that specialize in more than just basic cuts and trims, so I often travel out of town for things like this, and prefer to go to Olympia. Does anyone know of anyone who is good at doing cuts like this? I’ve found a few online but would love to get feedback from the locals in the area who may known best. Thank you!

Event Medicare Day of Action 7/30

• Upvotes

Join local activists at Medicare's birthday party, also known as Medicare Day of Action, Thursday 7/30 at 11am at the Lacey office of Rep. Marilyn Strickland. We'll share some personal stories about how crucial Medicare has become as a safety net, and we'll deliver a letter to Rep. Strickland (or her staff) urging her to support Medicare For All legislation to create the universal healthcare we all deserve.

Come for the cake, stay for the community and the righteous glow of populist politics!

"Workable" cafes near downtown?

My kid has morning half-day camp at HOCM next week. Any cafes in downtown or close by that have a vibe for sitting and working on a laptop?

Essentially somewhere I could comfortably sit down for about 2.5 hours?

Where to job search (outside of usual sites)

Hi all. After taking off work for the last few years to care for my mom down here in Olympia, I’ll be buying her house, and making Olympia my home.

I’ll need to return to working at some point soon. Prior to taking the time off, I was a mental health therapist for almost 20 years— but I’d like to not go back to that just yet, if I don’t need to.

The problem is I’m almost 50 with no other work history, so I’m feeling a little adrift.

I’m not precious about the type of work — I’d work in customer service, I’d love to find a nanny family (I was a child and family therapist in schools forever ). I’d do grant writing or research.

Pretty much anything!

Thanks.
