I actually would pay to watch a Mel Gibson Odyssey, i completely disagree with him politically but he has a very pleasant style of film making

Of course when Elon musk says historically accurate (a Poem about an event that prolly never happened btw) he just means "remove all non-WASP from the movie)

100 milions $isn't enough for that type of epic fantasy it's gonna look cheap AF

...he's genuinely a really good director despite, y'know, that incident with the cop. And the incident with his ex-wife. And the incident with the guy who wrote Showgirls. But fuck man, Apocalypto's a really good movie. I wish he'd direct more.

He’s also just a weird choice for a historically accurate movie anyway. Braveheart and Apocalypto are VERY good movies. They’re also mostly historical fiction and wildly inaccurate in properly displaying the cultures of the people they’re portraying and (in Bravehearts case) making up/changing real documented events for extra drama. I don’t have a huge problem with it (every story needs drama I get it) but Mel Gibson getting painted as a “extremely true to the time, historical purist” has really never been a thing

Despite all that, still a good director, just a garbage person

just a garbage person

In Mel's defense he did just think he deserved to be blown before the Jacuzzi, not afterwards. Okay, maybe he expressed that notion a bit too harshly to his wife but see, he's not that abhorrent. Just listen to the man:

Sure his tone's a bit much but I think that's a perfectly reasonable request. She should've blown him before the Jacuzzi.

Yeah, he's not good at historical accuracy but more like... historical immersion? Historical verisimilitude? He makes it feel real, even the made up bits.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that one’s ability as a director is not directly related to one’s moral decency

I think that’s a perfect description. He’s really good. Is he one of the greats? No. Does being a shitty person mean you can’t make art? No.

I think the shame of it is he could've been one of the greats (directing-wise I mean, he was already a star and, let's face it, was in a bunch of all-time great movies) if his personal problems hadn't gotten the best of him. Apocalypto came out right when he fell off the wagon hard and his problems really started so the film got a bit overlooked thanks to the media circus around him. And then he didn't direct another movie for a decade after. It's a shame I think he has (possibly had - I still haven't seen Flight Risk yet but I haven't heard good things) genuine talent.

And the incident with the bald marky mark and Topher Grace plane movie.

Sucking Trump's dick is also funny because Mel is an immigrant lmao.

Watching him explain to Joe Rogan how global warming isn't real while his house was literally burning down in the LA fires was so surreal and funny.

And I'd still pay money to see another movie that guy directed lol.

Yea, but not to the US.

He directed something last year and nobody cared. It's weird how people like to overexaggerate his abilities.

people really need to learn to seperate the art from the artist. Mel Gibson is maybe a bad guy, but he's a great actor/director.

i completely disagree with him politically

Thought i covered myself here, shitty human being but he understands the 3-act structure to make good movies

1

u/the_guynecologist 5h ago

...yeah I was agreeing with you. I honestly really like him as a film-maker despite... everything.

Although I don't know if those ex-wife "YOU SHOULD JUST FUCKING SMILE AND BLOW ME" tapes of his really count as a political disagreement. Unless you consider Mel not getting blown before the Jacuzzi as his political position. Peronally I don't, I think he just wanted head

u/Rainy_Wavey 5h ago

Wait, did i once again respond to the wrong message?

I think i did

"Probably never happened" buddy this isn't robin hood. This story has witches, 10 foot cannibals, cyclops, huge sea monsters, and immortal nymph girls. This did not happen.

I mean...if the Bible is real

1

u/SVR-Bot 4h ago

It is, well parts of it are.

Both are distortion of real events with supernatural stuff added.

We know for vast parts of the bible what's probably real and what's not. With the Odysee not so much. Funnily enough a Mycenian trip to America actually explains a lot of it though

Remembers how i got banned from YMS for calling someone an I*F soldier

Chuddha has told me that one should not think that it happens, for nothing ever happens

I like Mel Gibson’s films. But the lack of budget, not being able to attract enough talent, and the fact that the movie is being made solely to fight some nonsense culture war would be sure to make this film unwatchable.

3

u/The-Gentleman-Rat 6h ago

Most definitely. The Odyssey spent more than that on marketing alone (~$125mil).

8

u/Rainy_Wavey 6h ago

I'm waiting because Grok is going to use Nolan's odyssey and probably the Hades games as the basis for whatever AI generated garbage they're gonna make and it's gonna be funny

5

u/Puzzleheaded-Cow6738 6h ago

It'd be funny if Grok stole from the Hades games since they're so much more woke and DEI than Nolan's film

1

u/Rainy_Wavey 5h ago

And i wouldn't have Hades any other way (finally a mainstream greek myth where Hades is not a standin for Lucifer but actually the best god in the lore)

2

u/Healthy_Medicine2108 6h ago

they would never use hades because the protagonist of hades 2 is a woman and that’s yucky

3

u/Rainy_Wavey 5h ago

Grok alternates between megawoke and mecha-hitler, it's gonna happen at some point

1

u/DrButtgerms 5h ago

I don't watch films and certainly wouldn't pay actual human money if I did, but would otherwise agree with you

1

u/alfredcneiman 4h ago

The vast majority of his films have prolonged scenes of people being tortured to death. If you find that pleasant, it’s probably necessary for someone to call the police and have them search your backyard for the bodies.

[Loved trope] Projection

Spoken like a true serial killer.

The historically accurate depiction of ancient Greek would have Agamemnon bring some naked boys to the gate of Troja to lure out the soldiers
