They've already done the character switcheroo before. I fully expect Doom is Tony Stark, maybe from another universe, maybe from another timeline, or maybe stone shenanigans that force him to come back. But the reveal that RDJ would be Doom basically sealed that he's Stark to me.
I saw a fun theory that made me feel better about it. In endgame when cap and iron man steal the pim particles from the lab in the past, Howard stark was working that lab. Hank Pim notices the missing particles, fires Howard. Howard's wife already pregnant with "Tony" in that timeline. "Tony" doesn't grow up as a billionaire playboy, and grows up Victor von Doom instead.
It's a nice theory and I'd like it if it weren't for the fact that Howard was already rich as fuck by that point. The whole scene ends with him climbing into the back of a fancy car, with living Jarvis (or some other butler) holding the door for him.
This would be especially dumb given that Howard Stark is one of the founders of SHIELD and there is no scenario where he would be hurting for money, or be an underling at Pym's lab. Howard invented Captain America, why would he "work" for Pym?
Turns out when you make a fantasy universe where anything you can think of in your wildest dreams can happen, nothing has any meaning or purpose anymore. I'll never understand the people that gobble up this Marvel shit like they're the best movies ever.
Honestly, it would be a great story if during Harry's time as teacher for defense against the dark arts, het gets corrupted by something he is researching, totally gets black pilled into how Hogwarts needs to be eradicated, and becomes the villain. You find out much later he was posessed by some ancient evil entity that can only be destroyed by dark magic, so the kids HAVE to learn the curses in order to destroy it, and the students learn that there cannot be just light, or just darkness, but a balance.
Yeah but after the 2nd movie fans riot and so they hire a different director for the final movie of the trilogy and he resets the board and you find out (explained in a seasonal dlc of hogwarts legacy) that somehow Voldemort returned

I mean, Dr. Strange 2 introduced a magic power where someone can jump universes by inhabiting a dead body. Dr. Doom piloting Tony's dead body to enter the MCU-verse would go so fucking hard.
It's not inhabiting a dead body, it's just inhabiting a variant of yourself. Strange inhabits the dead body of the Strange that brought America to his universe because he was available, but he can't possess some random guy on the street.
In order for Doom to pilot Tony's corpse, he'd already have to be a variant of Tony.
No, it wouldn't. It would be lame, which it is and this movie will be. This is cheap, tacky, stupid. They are so creatively bankrupt, this crap is all they could come up with. It's unbelievable that with SO many diehard fans, artists, writers and others available in this space who would kill and give anything to work on Marvel, that this is all they could come up with. I think in one of the comics there is alternative reality where tony stark is the dr doom. And since the fantastic 4 movie was already in the alternative reality i think that was the plan

Really is a shame that they didn't just do a few years of solo send off films or even series to just clean house, have some fun with the characters without trying to tie it all together, and then really sketch out another long term storyline with the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and maybe a few of the old guard to help transition to a new saga.
Instead they started pumping out so much shit that, as someone who was only ever casually interested in the MCU, the idea of consuming all of it to follow along felt like a fucking job/lifestyle. No breathing space or break, just half a dozen Disney+ series and two or three theatrical releases a year.
Maybe some of it is good, but I just don't care enough about it to feel like the time investment is remotely worth it for me.
They saw the success of endgame/infinity war and took the conclusion of “wow more characters more success, tie everything together immediately” while ignoring the previous 10 years of buildup and character building
The MCU formula also started to insidiously seep into fucking everything. It was cool in 2015 when they were the only ones doing it. But nowadays it feels like with half the big franchise movies that come out, only exist to establish a whole new universe and can't be enjoyed on their own

Yeah, I have the same problem, and it's made worse by the streaming mess with Spider-Man. I missed the third movie, whose name I don't even remember, but at this point I've had all the major plot points spoiled: other MCU characters' appearances, multiverse shenanigans and cameos, major changes for the main characters. I don't know if it was well-written enough for those things to have real emotional impact, but now they surely wouldn't. Hell, I don't even remember where exactly I left off in the overarching story.
So now that it's finally on The Marvel Streaming Service, it's like, what's the point? Do I watch it just in case there's a detail I need to know for the fourth movie, which I'll almost certainly need to watch to know what's going on in Doomsday? Or do I just like.. go do something else? (Yes. I do go do something else. Anything else.)
After Infinity War and Endgame they really needed to cool their jets. That was the big climax.
Aside from a couple of movies that helped tie up some loose ends in their own franchises like Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and Spiderman: No Way Home they really should have slowed the release schedule way down just let the whole Marvel universe cool down for a bit so they could start off small again and build up anticipation for another story arc in the future.
I am, unironically, an apologist for the movies that came out immediately after Infinity War. The 21-22 movies were largely good. But then you get that next Phase where half the movies are good and half the movies are bad. Avengers Doomsday looks like garbage, but will also probably make a billion dollars. It's not looking good.

Probably both. In RDJ's case, he finally proved himself by winning an Oscar (Best Supporting Actor for Oppenheimer) which is no small feat when looking at the arc of his entire troubled career. Now he gets to go back to Marvel--on their hands and knees--with an Oscar in his pocket and demand more money from them than Tony Stark has in his bank account to be in a movie for 20 minutes
Most likely both. People assume desperation because it came on the heels of the big Jonathan Majors panic and Quantumania doing poorly, and was part of a huge pivot in the roadmap/story.
But RDJ has always seemed super happy with his role in the MCU and his relationship with Stark as a character. I think he was probably genuinely excited to get to be involved again.
Arthur Conan Doyle was just utterly sick of writing about Sherlock Holmes so he killed Holmes off in The Final Problem. His real passion was writing historical fiction, along with having chats with fairies and seances and such. Then a publisher asked him how much would it cost to bring back Holmes, and Doyle gave a figure so ludicrous that he thought no one in their right mind would say yes to it. The publisher said yes, and shortly after The Hound of the Baskervilles was published.
Never underestimate the power of a literal dump truck of money.
Cos it’s just a scene with no build up or anything. Why is Thor hitting doom? Why do we care? Is Thor even at full power? What’s different about this moment then when Thor got pwned by Thanos

Thor and Hulk are the Commanders Worf of the MCU. Do cool shit, very strong, but their main roles are as jobbers who heighten the threat level by getting their shit pushed in
You’re not the only one. The lack of build up takes away from this scene, along with the fact that the audience already knows who’s under the mask. We won’t feel the shock the characters feel because they already gave it away.
Also the way Doom stops Thor feels odd. Put some SFX that shows off how untouchable he is.
It looks and feels fan made. Like yes it has some level of polish but I have otherwise seen fan made content on YouTube that is almost indistinguishable
This at least would improve the effect they are going for here. Just because Doom stops the attack doesn't mean that the impact of it through the air and Thor landing would just disappear.

Marvel nerds love that slop tho. It's literally the most juvenile way of consuming a medium. Marvel movies nowadays is like a regroupement of has-been at a retirement home talking about how cool they're still are.
I'm a MCU fan (disgusting, I know), but even I felt nothing. I wanted to feel something but I feel....nothing. The only way this works out is if this is the start of a saga and not the conclusion to this phase of MCU. Because it just doesn't have as much sauce as Thanos build up. However, they had to scramble this shit together due to Johnathan Majors was suffering from too much success and had to beat his partner.
He for sure does not have the best voice acting chops but he does well at most parts of the game, especially during Phantom Liberty. It's fair to say the game did have a massive heap of problems on launch, but it's fixed now and Keanu is still in it.
Also Grimes' character makes the voice acting of everyone else seem transcendent by comparison.
It's for sure not a Peter Dinklage in Destiny situation, is what I'm trying to say.
Everything about this situation reeks of desperation. Which is a shame because Doom is an amazing villain, and it would have been great if they earned this like they did with Thanos.
Instead they are just smashing the RDJ and Chris Evans buttons hoping to make money.
I love that the strategic appeal of this franchise for Marvel was that they could ideally move actors in and out, but the audience just doesn't allow it.
I get yalls points but the movie is already booked in my area. Already. Unless you see it in the morning like a boomer, you won't see it till the week after comfortably.
I think this could have worked a lot better (and cheaper) if they didn't announce it. Just let the in movie reveal plus word of mouth do all the marketing.

I wish they'd licked anyone other than RDJ. He was perfect as Ironman and using him as Doom is just embarrassing.
I'm sure he'll do fine but dude...they could've just brought him from some other earth and use an evil variant of Ironman as the bad guy instead of this multiverse crap. Such an obvious grab for attention and exploitation of his star power.
I remember all my nerdier friends (who actually had read far less Marvel Comics in their lives than I had) all attacking me when I said Marvel would never recover from End Game. They made the stakes so high that nothing could live up to or surpass that. Marvel rightfully tried to go back to the unknown and lesser known heroes and actors but people just wanted more End Game, forgetting that took like a decade of patient set up to get to those stakes.

It turns out Doom’s mom’s name is Tony. So they become friends.
