Modern action movies need to take tips from tokusatsu shows and just reuse the same 5 locations depending on what the scene needs.
Does the scene need a big explosion at the end? Go to the quarry. Is there a lot of close quarters action and maneuvering around obstacles? Start throwing junk in the warehouse to get it nice and cluttered. Does someone have to fall from an absurd height? Time to go to that one city rooftop.

At least the star trek sets had some interesting scenery for the actors to interact with and move around in.

I think it was to a much lesser extent. From what I remember from stories of the shoot they did have stand-ins for certain scenes that were edited out later and replaced with the real actor. But that was mostly to due with the large high profile cast and schedules not lining up and less to do with flying by the seat of their pants.
If you have to keep the plot that secret your movie is dogshit, and not worth watching imo. A good story needs to work even if you know what is going to happen, and the trailer spoils who is in the movie anyway.
In order to prevent leaks and keep the acting as authentic as possible we blindfolded all of the actors, moved them to a remote location, and didn't give them a script. We told them to say things that vaguely fit their character and a couple quips we can put in the trailer. It sure was expensive and a pain in the ass to CGI out all the blindfolds but it sure was worth it in the end.
When the horizon's at the bottom, it's interesting. When the horizon's at the top, it's interesting. When the horizon's in the middle, it's boring as shit!
Also the actors are always in neat scenes full body visible. Every group scene must have them standing far apart so they can always be recognized, mid fight they'll still be pristine in the eyes of the camera.
This is literally just skill issue (and probably time). People made amazing movies with literal painted backgrounds, you can't get much more constrained than that.
Volume is an amazing tool but it's often used awfully, it's like someone used a generic UE5 background and shoot it on an iPhone.
It's The Volume. Everything Disney makes now is shot on it. That's why every interior shot is round. Every outdoor shot has a giant horizon, but people only stand 15' from each other. It's bullshit.
so like they built up this character as their main villain for years, hyped the shit out of him. And the mf playing him decided to get physical with his girlfriend, and crumbled the entire phase of movies that were supposed to be for him.
Every movie mcu descending into CW tier, They literally look like they unboxed their cosplay five minutes ago. zero scuffs, zero wear and tear, and that flat lighting makes them look like plastic action figures poorly green screened into a PS3 cutscene. It's so unbelievably fake
I'm curious how many scenes had all the cast together and how many had people standing around in front of the green screen being spliced together in post production, together with the special effects.
Makes me think of that time when Ian McKellen (Gandalf) broke down on the hobbit? I think, because he couldn't take just acting with a bunch of green screens around him all the time instead of having his fellow cast members around him to act with.
"Action figures in their clear plastic packaging" is my thought every time. Everything in MCU films (apart from maybe Iron Man) looks artificial and plasticky.
Hey now, CW shows are fascinating in their own right, like watching a car crash as it's happening. Mcu movies are just getting more and more... forgettable, for lack of a better term. It's like drinking a glass of water and then pissing it back out a couple hours later.
Supergirl/Flash crossover where they're "stealthily infiltrating" the Dominators facility, so they all stroll in together to the big warehouse, right through the front door, everyone looking directly at the big display in the middle that they vocally identify as a trap and no one even glancing at the hiding spots or walkways that the villain was in fact hiding on.
I dont fell like thats true for everything. Recent movies like Fanstastic Four, Thunderbolts, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 and shows like Daredevil are example of this
It's likely Battleworld will be set up by the end of the movie rather than in the movie itself. Still, they could've had so much sauce even in this scene; think Prince of Egypt rather than... whatever this is
Taking 'standing awkwardly in the middle of a room' (read: soundstage with bad greenscreen or volume) to the next level. Even the camera angle makes it awkward.
The last movie I watched was The Angry Birds movie, realised that is the ultimate peak of cinema and have been only reading the plots on Wikipedia since then.

That’s because one film (cough, the better one) used actual real locations to create their look while marvel just used that giant screen room for most everything
The Tom Cruise movie Oblivion I think started it. The set where they're at their sky base, that's a screen surrounding it. And honestly it worked really well, especially since the rest of the movie filmed in real places.
Their explanation was that there was so many reflective surfaces it'd be a huge pain scrubbing all of the green screen out.
I really really hate the Volume. Absolute peak volume slop was Quantumania. I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to MCU stuff, cus its just bubblegum popcorn movies, but honestly this was the limit for me. Nobody TOUCHED anything, nobody PICKED ANYTHING UP, it was just people standing across from each other talking or CGI fighting.
I didn't even knew the doomsday trailer was out, and honestly I felt zero emotions wathching it. It just felt like a compilation of characters which people honestly don't care about much to get hyped far. It looks like a CW show now lol, It's just sad
I’m a big comics fan and have seen all the mcu films, good and bad. There is nothing that could have me more hyped for doomsday over dune 3, easily the best sci fi adaptation on this generation.
