In particular I can imagine those turning vanes getting dirty over time, as soon as they're covered in dust and crud I think the friction losses would quickly overtake any increase in flow efficiency. And you'd need someone to go clean them regularly, which increases maintenance.
Sure, but i've never heard a homeowner claim AC systems need to be cleaned often. I think I know one person whos had their ducts cleaned out of everyone I know
