Admissions Megathread [Megathread] Prospective Students, Applications, and Admissions For July 2026

Dear prospective students,

We appreciate your interest in NYU! Feel free to ask questions about the school and the application process in this weekly post!

Do take advice about your chances of admission with a grain of salt:

  • An application is a holistic process and we can’t see everything you submit.
  • We don’t actually know what standards the admissions office uses and what they care about, we just have anecdotal evidence.
  • Please direct information-sensitive questions to the NYU Admissions Office.
  • NYU's admission rate drops every year, so even the anecdotal evidence we do have may not translate well to this year's applications.

Lipton Hall Dorms

Hi! I'm about to be a freshman at NYU living in Lipton hall in a triple studio. I was looking at the floor plan for my dorm room, and I saw that there was an entire corner dedicated to closet space that I thought was arranged kind of weirdly, especially considering there's a bed squeezed right next to it. Is it possible to move the closet space things around the dorm, or can you only move your beds and desks?

Also, does anybody have any advice for making minimal dorm space work? Thank you!

Exchange Student – Questions about NYU Paris workload and student life

Hi everyone,

I'm a University of Sydney student in Australia thinking about applying for an exchange semester at NYU Paris next year, and I'm trying to get a better idea of what the workload is actually like. I've looked through the course catalogue, but I was hoping to hear from students who have experienced it firsthand.

I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions:

  • How many classes did you take during your exchange/study away semester?
  • How many days per week were you on campus, and did most classes meet once or twice a week?
  • What was the workload like outside of class (readings, homework, essays, presentations, exams, etc.)?
  • Did you feel you had enough free time to explore Paris, travel on weekends, enjoy living in the city, etc.?
  • Looking back, would you say the workload was heavier, lighter, or about what you expected?

Thanks so much!

NYU Dorms

I'm a incoming freshmen spring admit at nyu and I'm confused about the dorming situation. I saw a tiktok that said all spring admits gets placed in third north dorm? So does that mean as a spring admit I don't have options for dorms?

Put together a quick site to check resume text against internship postings

I'm a junior and after striking out on internship applications earlier this year I spent the summer building a web app to figure out what went wrong. I realized most companies just run your application through screening software like Workday or Greenhouse first. It looks for exact keyword overlaps. So if a posting asks for "data-driven decision making" and you wrote "analyzed reports" the software misses the connection entirely, even if you did the exact same work. You won't catch it yourself because you already know the context behind your own bullets.

I put together a site that compares your resume against a specific posting and shows where the wording doesn't line up: resume.zoevera.com

When I ran my own resume through it, bullets I was proud of matched almost nothing in the postings I'd been applying to. If you're looking for roles, it's worth checking your text against a few real job postings before sending applications. Worst case, it just confirms your resume is fine.

Opinion nyu sps... joke school?

what's the consensus on NYU SPS? i have read that a lot of *outside* students of NYU perceive SPS as a "joke" or "easy" school. as an NYU SPS student, why don't you provide evidence on why it's a lesser NYU school rather than just comment a bunch of elitist garbage. of course, not all NYU schools are the same but it's a bit unfair for people to assume SPS is completely inadequate.

Housing Housing for Out-of-State Transfer Student (undergrad)

Hey everyone!

My brother will be transferring to NYU this fall. He’s from Washington State and is having trouble finding housing. Most apartments we’ve contacted don’t reply and time is running out. Where do most NYU CAS transfer students stay? Is it common for students to live in Jersey City/Hoboken? Ideally, he wants to live somewhere in the city but he definitely wants to live in a student populated area.

If anyone has an extra room available or has some recommendations, please let me know! His budget is $1,700/month maximum.

Looking For Sound Person [48-Hour Film Project, New York]

Hey guys! My team and I are participating in the 48 Hour Film Project from August 7th-9th. We have the full team essentially already, except for a dedicated sound person.

All of the production would take place on August 8th, so the only stipulation would be that you would have to be available all day that day (if you wanted to participate for pre and post, you are also more than welcome). If you have a boom mic, or could have access to one for cheap, that would also be a big plus!

If you are interested or want any additional information, feel free to DM me!

Advice Late for Fall class consequences

Hi guys
Need a real advice here,

I’m an incoming international fall transfer. Classes are supposed to stary on September 2.

But I’m Nat sure if I will have my visa on time to be able to attend classes on time.

Would it still be okay if I were to begin class mid September or late September?

Advice How is Prof Alan Schlechter for CAMS-UA 110 The Science of Happiness?

Heard the class itself is easy and engaging but I see mixed reviews about the professor on ratemyprofessor. Are there easier/better classes in CAMS that's also maybe more engaging?

Advice NYU Langone Internships/Part-Time Jobs?

Hi everyone, this is a long shot & I'm not sure this is the right subreddit but going to try my best.

I'm an Applied Psych NYU alumna and in my second year of grad school for mental health, wellness, & counseling. I used to be pre-law and then switched over to the mental health/pre-health field, and would love to explore more work opportunities in hospitals like NYU Langone.

Thing is, I don't even know where to start. I tried looking on LinkedIn, Handshake, even Langone's career pages, talk to professors - but I can't figure out what sort of positions I am eligible for/can apply for. I'm interested in research (having some mental health/suicidal ideation in BIPOC population work experience) and anything with healthcare coordination, scribing, etc. I kinda wanna know what it would be like to work in a hospital setting before committing to pre-health entirely or maybe switching over to working in a school.

Any help, tips, leads, or even words of encouragement would be GREATLY appreciated. Job market and world is hella scary.

Chances of getting an NYU job before my first semester?

I’m starting an MS in Computer Science at NYU on September 2. I have previous graduate assistant, administrative, and study-abroad agency experience.

How realistic is it to get an on-campus job and start working when the semester begins, even though I’m new to NYU? Should I start applying now, and where should I look?

Incoming graduate counseling student, seeking job/program advice

Title is self-explanatory, but I’m going into the mental health counseling program here, and I wanted to get thoughts and opinions on those who are in the program now/graduated from it. Particularly, level of difficulty, how was transitioning from undergrad, things like that. On a related note, I’m eligible for work study, and I do want to try and find a job, but I’m not sure how easy it will be going into a new school, especially a graduate program, and also balancing a job. The amount I’ve been offered is fair, but should I wait until next semester to use the funds so I can see how my first semester goes and think about balancing a job (is that possible/advisable?). I’m slightly anxious about transitioning in general, but more so because I don’t want to overextend myself and burn out/tank my GPA off the bat. Please give your best advice for the situation 👍.

Student & Alumni Life Incoming students and oncampus jobs

Is there a restriction on when fall 2026 students would be allowed to register for oncampus jobs?

Because I can register for the particular jobs but I haven't really gotten any news back from any of them, Is it perhaps not the right time?
