Advice I failed a summer course and I feel terrible

Upvotes

Hello. I just wanted to vent. I know I fucked up. I managed to fail a summer class that my parents spent hard money on. I had two other classes as well during the summer that I'll be able to pass with, but I feel like such a horrible person for failing one of the three. I wish I could withdraw, but I know I'm just gonna have to live with this since I missed the deadline.

I feel like one of my biggest drawbacks for this was the fact that I just became overwhelmed with work, and I just couldn't bounce back as assignments began to pile on, and my performance began to greatly decrease. I'm glad I didn't entirely fail my summer session, but I still feel so awful about what I've done. My parents are hard working people that just want what's best for my future. I just feel like I let them down this time.

I just wanna know if anyone has ever been in this situation before, and if they could offer their own two cents on how they recovered from something like this. Thank you for reading.

Springfield Medical RN / For those of us with kids

I know I’m probably a dinosaur compared to most of you entering into this Fall’s RN Program, but I’m a 45 year old returning student after all this time with a 7 year old. For those of us with kids, are any of you single parents? I remember what our orientation taught us that “no one becomes a nurse alone.” Looking for my people and support system and this took a lot to even post so I hope this makes sense to someone out there!

Springfield Medical How are you getting the flu shot (influenza) for MEC or nursing programs?

The deadline for the flu shot in the DISA system is due August 1. However it’s likely impossible to meet that deadline after asking my local pharmacy they said as the flu shot doesn’t become available until mid August in most places. I remember in other programs years before the deadline was closer to mid August before class and people could get it super early August before. Was this just an oversight or miscalculated deadline? I remember some people said flu shots are offered late July to meet the deadline but I haven’t heard of any place that does it.

Cyber Security Course Selection

Hello everyone! I only have five classes left at NOVA: ITN 261, ITN 262, ITN 263, ITN 266, and, lastly, ITP 100.
I’m not gonna lie—I’ve been at NOVA for a while, and I’ve been wanting to transfer to GMU soon. Because of that, I’ve been planning to take all five of those classes in the fall semester.
Before I make a horrible decision, I wanted to get some advice from people who have experience with these courses. If anyone here has taken all of those classes—or more specifically, has taken a similar course load in one semester—what’s your honest advice? Should I split them into two semesters, or is taking all five in the fall manageable?

Annandale Making new friends

I’m a male that’s going to be starting as a freshmen in the fall at nova Annandale and I want to know if there’s a way to make friends especially since I’m going to be living alone in the US without family and I’m worried about having no support system and would I really like to have people by my side. If anyone could help that would be great.

Transfer Take courses in local cc or choose NOVA online?

I am a new immigrant temporarily staying in Hawaii but will be moving with my family to VA after the fall term. I plan to finish an AS in Engineering and the major courses needed aren't available in local CC. In terms of adjustment and difficulty:

  1. Will it be better to take NOVA online or take transferrable units from local cc?
  2. Will I have a more difficult time transferring if I take General Education Courses first?
  3. If were to do it online, could I still refund the out of state tuition after proving my residence after a year since I am only a recent immigrant?
  4. Has anyone taken the same path before?

Annandale Has anyone transferred ASU's MAT 265 (Universal Learner) to NOVA as MTH 263? Trying to graduate by December

I'm doing the A.S. in Computer Science at NOVA and transferring to Virginia Tech after. Only classes I have left to graduate are Calc 1 and 2 (MTH 263/264). Plan is to knock out Calc 1 this summer somehow, take MTH 264 in the fall, and graduate in December.

Someone suggested ASU's Universal Learner course MAT 265 – Calculus for Engineers I. It's $25 to take, self-paced, and you only pay ~$400 to put it on an official ASU transcript if you like your grade. Sounds great but I have two concerns:

  1. It's 3 credits and MTH 263 is 4 credits. Does NOVA bring it in as MTH 263, or does it get downgraded to MTH 261/math elective? If anyone's actually done this transfer I'd love to hear how it posted.
  2. Timing — fall starts late August. Between finishing the course, ordering the ASU transcript, and NOVA evaluating it, is there any realistic shot it posts in time to clear the MTH 264 prerequisite? Or do they let you enroll while it's pending?

Also open to other routes — I've heard of people doing the Calculus CLEP (apparently need a 64 for MTH 263, not just a 50), or stacking MTH 263/264 in the two 8-week fall sessions. If anyone's graduated on a crunched calc timeline like this, what worked?

I have a ticket in with advising but figured real student experiences would be more useful. Thanks 🙏

I've always had issues connecting to NovaWiFi since I have an Android and that's why I've been relying on Eduroam instead but now that doesn't work for me either.

Alexandria ENG 111 v 112?

What type of text do you read? Does anyone have their old syllabus? I read the course descriptions but I'm still not sure whether to take or test out of ENG 111.

I've taken some classes before at another institution and am a decent writer but essay writing is different.

Springfield Medical TEAS for DMS 2027

Does anyone know if the TEAS will still be required for the 2027 DMS application? I took DMS 100 this past spring with Judi Green, and she mentioned they were planning to replace it with a different exam. I keep checking the program requirements, but it still lists the TEAS 😭 Has anyone taken DMS 100 more recently or heard any updates about whether they’re changing the test? I’m about to finish my prereqs and wanted to start studying but I didn’t wanna waste money on study materials if it’s gonna be a different exam.

Financial Aid Just to clarify. The “requested” means that my school will send my High School certification to nvcc and I can leave this alone right?

Springfield Medical How big is the Spring 2028 cohort that starts in Fall 2026? Nursing acceptance & success rate odds?

Based on the nova nursing division website it gave a link to an excel sheet that said in the past 5 years 80-145 students made it to the end of their program and passed the NCLEX. Does that mean on their first try?

How many people seemed to be at the orientation it looked like hundreds. I would guess maybe 150 but it seemed to be more.

Given around 300 people apply each semester. And maybe there were around 150 at the orientation does that mean the acceptance rate is around 50% for nursing?

So if 150 are accepted every year is that a good or bad sign only 80-145 make it to the end?

Springfield Medical radiography textbooks

Hi friends, I was wondering if people who have completed the radiography program or are currently in it recommend using all access to get the required books? The prices are looking steep online but it looks like most books are rentals with all access; would it be helpful to have the books for multiple semesters therefore better to outright purchase?

Thank you!
