And can you really blame someone for running when itâs pretty widely known they often detain people with visas, green cards, etc for wildly variable amounts of time and you canât count on due process before they transfer you out of state or to a third country that is neither the US or your own

Juan Jairo Coronilla DurĂĄn, 28, died July 14 after authorities said he darted across a busy road in St. Augustine and into the path of a truck. His death was the third in roughly a week involving encounters with Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, following fatal shootings in Texas and Maine.
Coronilla DurĂĄn traveled from his hometown of San Luis de la Paz, in the central Mexican state of Guanajuato, to Atlanta to visit family and friends, according to Isaret Jeffers, founder of Colectivo Arbol, a farmworkers advocacy group. He had stayed in Georgia for three weeks before traveling to Floridaâs east coast to enjoy the beaches, Jeffers said Tuesday.
U.S. authorities have not publicly identified the man, but a Mexico official confirmed his name. Jeffers said Yezzika Alamilla, the man's wife, told them he had been visiting the U.S. on a tourist visa.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment Tuesday about whether Coronilla DurĂĄn had a valid visa.
Coronilla DurĂĄn was one of four people in a vehicle that stopped in a gas station parking lot before 7 a.m. on the day he died. The four fled on foot during an encounter with agents from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Homeland Security Investigations, with one darting across a busy road into the path of the semi, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
It is unclear what prompted the encounter and what happened to the vehicle's other three occupants.
The Highway Patrol and DHS have not provided additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.
Alamilla called Colectivo Arbol, which provides legal advice and assistance to farmworkers in Central Florida, the day after her husband died, Jeffers said. She was seeking help to travel from Mexico and repatriate her husbandâs remains. The organization bought her a plane ticket and put her up for three days, until Monday, she said. The Mexican consulate has been helping her since.
âHis wife said he was there on a tourist visa. She didnât understand what was happening,â Jeffers said. âHe didnât come to work; he wasnât working. He was here as a tourist.â
Alamilla âthinks he was very afraid, and thatâs why he ran away," Jeffers said.
According to information provided by the widow, Coronilla DurĂĄn âhad been in the United States for only a very short time (and) had a tourist visa," said Susana Guerra Vallejo, the undersecretary for assistance to migrants and mobility issues for the Mexican state of Guanajuato.
She said that Alamilla would be able to see the body of her husband at the Florida funeral home.
Coronilla DurĂĄnâs body will be transported to Mexico on a commercial flight from Orlando, Guerra Vallejo told The Associated Press. He will be buried in his hometown of San Luis de la Paz, a farming community in Guanajuato that is about 160 miles (260 kilometers) northwest of Mexico City, she said.
Coronilla DurĂĄn and Alamilla had two children, a 7-month-old girl and a 7-year-old boy, Jeffers said.
Coronilla DurĂĄnâs death was at least the 10th involving encounters with immigration agents since President Donald Trump launched his mass deportation campaign last year.
The Mexican government said it had asked state attorneys general in the U.S. to review the deaths of migrants in ICE custody or during raids for possible criminal prosecution.

This is cartoonishly nightmarish , and they've already said they will never stop and they are acting at the specific direction and pleasure of the executive.
The vast, vast majority of Americans I'm certain offer condolences to the victims and their families involved here. But we have some degenerate people in charge and this is something we understand needs to get sorted out urgently.
I'd like to be able to say we can hold Donald Trump personally responsible for every murder because exactly nowhere in the constitution is extrajudicial murder allowed, whether it's negligent homicide as we see here or just shooting citizens in the face or running for their lives terrorized.
ICE must be dismantled, agents responsible and field commanders personally held responsible to the fullest extent of the law, and civilly held to account for their lawless behavior.

As a US citizen, bred and born here, this was exactly my thought on this tradgedy. We used to be a fairly safe tourist destination and now we are a place to be avoided - even if you are a white tourist from Europe or Canada (you get the idea).
What a time to be alive right now. I never thought this would be a thing in my lifetime in my own country, but here we are. I just hope these people are held accountable but at this point, by the time the next admin that remotely cares about prosecuting incidents like this, it will be far too late.

Just entering the US is a hassle as is. Was visiting my grandparents last winter. My brothers (including one fiancee) and me.
The questions we already had answer by form were very intrusive, asking for social media and even GitHub accounts.
At the border, I had to answer what my job is, who I work for, what my daily routine there is etc. My english is pretty decent, my brother and his fiancees is not. Border Patrol agent was trying to grill them as well.
After I started giving the "Yes sir... no sir." answers, it went pretty fast. Plus, wanting to know our whole travel plans. My brothers are americans with passport, I am german with an american father as well. It just seemed way to excessive.

Meanwhile, when I flew from America to Lithuania, we had to change plans in Belgium. The person at the airport who checked our passports asked where we were going and that was it. Didn't care why or for how long. I was so worried it was going to be like dealing with TSA. When we got to Lithuania, no one checked anything. We just walked out of the airport. It was amazing how different it was.

For years I said this was a race to the bottom, to arm ourselves on the left, and instead championed political action/ getting the controlled opposition out of the Dem party. Unfortunately this is all escalating faster than I imagined just 10 years ago, and the Dem party seems hell bent on collaborating with fascism in order to remain in power. They are useless at an extremely dangerous point in history.
It's up to us as people to collectively push back ourselves, or at least be ready to defend ourselves as fascism continues to rise. Get to know your neighbors too, and have a plan in place with friends and fam. This is not an "if" situation anymore. Going after immigrants is merely a test run for what they really want, which is extermination of any political opposition that stands in their way.

But the fact that ICE terrorists have killed an unknown amount of people in just the last 14 months, should have told him it was not safe. Alarmist as it may seem, nobody is safe. If they'll slaughter people in broad daylight in front of witnesses and cell phone cameras, there is no reason to think visiting the US could be a reasonable decision.

Edit: I did find a differnt article with clearer quote from his wife.
His wife, YĂŠsica Alamilla LĂłpez, told reporters that Coronilla Duran had only just recently arrived in the U.S.
âHe had a tourist visa and had been here in the United States for a short timeâonly three weeks,â she told Spectrum News after arriving at the Orlando airport from Mexico. âHe had been in Florida for just two days.â
So yeah, he was only here for 3 weeks.
