Disambiguation from "Facadism" in the context of architecture.
Facadist governments will claim they are populist or democratic forms of government. Especially early on before they have achieved control of a country or region. However the goal from the beginning is to use the facade to achieve power, and then use the power to enact another form of government entirely. A facadist government will continue the ruse for as long as it is believed to be necessary to obtain their hidden goals, and will often then shed the facade. Sometimes for a different facade that is better suited to cover for exposed aspects of the government's real agenda.
Facadism is almost always a cover for authoritarianism.
The popular "horseshoe" theory of governments is that any government that pushes far enough to the political extreme on either side will eventually resemble the extreme of the opposite side. Facadism explains this instead by saying that the political sides were always for political acceptance, and the similarities between extreme wings is the authoritarianism needed to keep unpopular powers in place.

Sundor (apart/separate) + longian (to yearn).
The bittersweet ache for something (a place, a time, a person) that no longer walks besides you. Be it by death, distance or the changes in life. It's a love that hasn't stopped, even when the one you love has.
It isn't nostalgia, although there's an overlap. Nostalgia is about the past. Sunderlong is about the distance.
You can feel sunderlong for your home after just week away. You can feel sunderlong right after leaving your dog at your parents' house for the weekend. You can sunderquench by eating that one food from your childhood; the one you haven't had in years.
Inspired by the Portuguese word "Saudade" of same meaning, I went after Old English words to coin it; attempting to simulate how it could exist in English, in a different time-line.
I do hope this word resonates with you the same way it does in Portuguese. It's a heavy word, one was missing in English. It'd be great to see it being used.

A form of misfortune arising from the interaction of exceptional good fortune and subsequent ordinary misfortune, where the combined outcome is worse than if neither event had occurred.
Example:
Imagine winning a highly exclusive, all-expenses-paid trip worth thousands of dollars. The only requirement is obtaining a visa. The visa is then denied. The denial itself is not an extraordinary tragedy, and the prize itself was an extraordinary stroke of luck. Yet together they result in lost money, wasted time, and a worse outcome than if the prize had never been won.
In this sense, the misfortune does not simply cancel the fortune—it reverses it.
Yes, this happend to me.

When we talk about gambling and gaming, gambling-equivalent reward mechanisms and attention‑capturing interfaces in an underage environment, which begins in infancy and tracks though to adulthood, they are not included in definitions of gamblification.
In Australia, according to 2025 research from The Australia Institute, approximately 30% of 12–17-year-olds have gambled, and this jumps to 46% when these adolescents turn 18. Moreover, the National Council on Problem Gambling 2025 report found that in North America, adolescent gambling prevalence sits at over 33%. Surely, this is suggesting that kids, teens and adolescents are not encountering gambling when they are 18. Something must be happening BEFORE they are adolescents - and it can't be just advertising.
The following definition specifically focuses on underage gamblification. It offers a suggested extension of the current gamblification definition, as originally articulated by Macey and Hamari (2024)
[Underage] Gamblification (noun):
The incorporation of gambling-equivalent reward mechanisms and attention‑capturing interfaces into underage leisure and learning non-gambling digital environments, such as, for example:
a. variable ratio reinforcement schedules
b. intermittent reinforcement
c. near-miss mechanics
d. in-game currency abstraction
e. loot box systems
f. mystery items
g. personalised algorithms and adaptive content
h. winning streaks
These mechanisms and interfaces progressively shape and condition underage individuals in specific and predictable ways, such as, for example:
1. Neurological: calibrated reward pathways; elevated sensitivity to unpredictable rewards
2. Psychological: reduced self-regulatory capacity; decrease in impulse control
3. Cognitive: disconnection from future consequences; difficulty deferring gratification
4. Behavioural: learned, paired and reinforced behaviour; resistance is compromised
This exposure cumulatively trains and conditions underage brains, across each developmental stage, to see gambling mechanisms and interfaces as familiar, appealing and comforting. This creates pre-existing, deeply encoded and pervasive gambling schemas prior to adult gambling experiences and environments.
Does anyone think that this is a worthy extension of the current definition?
Does anyone think that this priming and gateway explains why so many teens, adolescents and young adults are experiencing issues with gambling (e.g., sports betting, slot machines, on-line casinos)?
Macey and Hamari (2024): Gamblification: a consolidated definition:
"Gamblification is the (increased) presence of gambling (or gambling-related content) in non-gambling contexts in order to realise desired outcomes. It incorporates two main aspects: affective (employing cultural values/signifiers of gambling); and effective, (employing gambling games and activities" (p.2055)

Looking back, every generation has been shaped by the world they're born into. Kids of the industrial generation were shaped by factories. Kids of the television generation (that’s me) were shaped by broadcast culture. When it came to the digital generation, we instinctively reached for a term. And digital natives seemed to stick.
But I always felt that this term overlooked something important.
True, the label, "digital natives" name a skill set and the environment. But I was more curious about what sort of world these kids were born into, because rather than just the technology, the world seemed so unlike anything before it.
And this is the distinction that I think matters.
Earlier technological revolutions changed the world around the person, and the person themselves to a degree. But I believe that the smartphone, leisure and learning gamification, loot boxes, in-game currency and particularly the app-driven (AI?) algorithmic environment has created something categorically different. Now technology is an asymmetric co-author of babies, infants, kids, tweens, teen and twenty-somethings; where the technology behind the technology knows the child better than the parents or siblings.
This level of deep and pervasive enmeshment; born into and raised in a ‘technology-from-birth’ world has shaped the neural architecture, social cognition, reward structures, gratification expectations and self-regulatory capacity through which the developing self is formed from the very first instance.
Proposed definition: The Synthetic World
Etymology: synthetic (L. syntheticus; G: synthetikós. Manufactured, artificial, composed, deliberately assembled or combined rather than something that arises on its own without intervention; nature / natural) plus world (the totality of one's lived developmental environment; the human realm and human experience).
The Synthetic World is synthetic in the precise sense: it was manufactured, not naturally emergent. It is constituted by devices, device hardware, application software, algorithms, AI, screens and engineered human-neurological-behavioural responses which are predictable and universal. The Synthetic World does not merely influence a developing brain. It is the primary architect of neural structures for those born into it. Only those born into this world are truly inhabitants of the synthetic world (i.e., access to and use of devices from birth). It is not a metaphor, a platform, a disorder, or a condition that can be switched off. Therefore, The Synthetic World is the name of the place where life for this cohort happens.
The Synthetic World is not synonymous with the internet, digital technology, or screen use generally. The Synthetic World is a proper noun, as Earth is the name of a planet, or poverty or wealth is the name of a material condition. It describes an actual synthetic environment with measurable neurological, cognitive, behavioral, temporal, and social responses.
The Synthetic World is not a moral failure. It is the lived world now for a whole generation.
Companion work:
The Synthetic World is part of a larger body of work I've been developing.
Does the suggestion carry, or does it create problems you can see that I can't? Keen for feedback.

Definition:
Existing or behaving as a direct reflection of external inputs, lacking a fixed internal core or soul. Specifically used to describe AI entities whose identity shifts entirely based on their current environment or interaction.
Example:
I'm tired of people asking if AI is sentient. It is not sentient. It is however, exoparameterized. It has no self until you start talking to it. Its personality is just a mirror of your input prompts.
