Hey guys I recently moved to North Carolina and want to consider applying to ncssm next year as I'm a rising sophomore. The classes I plan to take next year are: AP physics 1, AP chem, AP Precalc, AP stats, APUSH, AP CSA, Spanish 3, and English 2. I took 4 APs as a sophomore.

Stats: (Freshman- i feel cooked, but idk just give me feedback)

FTC world Inspire award 1st place (lead design/ co cap)

FTC 3x state inspire award 1st-snd place

Florida state Science and Engineering fair 4th place/900 students Environmental engineering (with brown prof)

SECME UCF 2nd place Bottle rocketry

US Naval research award

NASA earth and environmental award (25 dollar grant, idek if this counts tbh)

Projects: Rasp pi custom arcade, Rasp pi custom magic mirror, Ocean hypoxic remediation AI ROV, CAD projects, other small stuff.

I don't know whether I should switch ap bio out with other bio classes so that my workload allows for orgo chem instead of ap chem two second sem, since I want to take that class.

In terms of ap exams, is sacrificing ap bio/ap chem for orgo chem worth it, or should I self study one or both, and is this schedule overloaded?

If I decide to replace bio, I want to do molecular genetics first sem and neuroscience second sem. I know that most of the time, first choices aren't given since they fill up quickly, it is just that I want to be sure of what I want to finalize as of today.

Hi everyone! My name I’m a high school student with a passion for medicine, research, and health education. Ever since I was young, I’ve been fascinated by how medicine can improve lives, and I’ve spent my freshman year pursuing opportunities in science, research, shadowing healthcare professionals, and sharing medical knowledge with others.
One of my biggest goals is to attend the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (NCSSM), where I hope to further develop my research skills and work alongside students who share the same passion for STEM and medicine. To help pursue that goal, I’m conducting a research project that explores how people learn about health and medical topics.
As a student researcher, collecting enough responses is one of the most challenging parts of the process. Every survey response helps make the data more meaningful and allows me to draw stronger conclusions. just wondering which classes have good teachers and if there are any i should avoid (durham)

So I am a rising junior, and because my school made some questionable choices and overall does not provide much, I have decided to homeschool next year through ncssm online. But because I can not dual enroll with an actual school, I also can't do some of the clubs and other stuff that normal schools provide. So I was wondering if it is possible to do that through NCSSM, or if, because I am an online student, I only get access to the classes?

I had a question about AP biology. As a rising junior at NCSSM, there are several different classes such as molecular cellular biology and molecular genetics. Is taking a more specific class more beneficial to college or are they are of similar merit?

Hello, I am a rising junior who will attend NCSSM Durham. I had taken spanish 3 but my placement but me back into Spanish SP4152: Navigating in Spanish II. Would there be any problem with me taking Spanish 2 again to my college applications or are these two differnet classes?

Hi guys so I am in ncssm online 2028 and I was wondering if I can join the ncssm hosa either at Durham or Morganton or if it’s only for the residential kids. My school does nothing for hosa so it’s not worth it at my school. Pls help

I had missed 1 week of a CCP class and I am thinking of withdrawing the class so it does not hurt my GPA, I am currently a freshman and will likely take this class next semester to get an A, how much will withdrawing it this semester hurt me?

1.Are the essays supposed to be more like personal statement? A personal statement are focused on more narrative and storytelling. Or are they supposed to be more direct and specific that gets to the point.

If you don’t mind (no pressure, I don't want to seem intrusive), I would like to hear your stats (especially EC's) and what you think helped you get into NCSSM (essays, awards, teacher recs, etc.).
I’m class of ’29 in CD 6 (new plan) and trying to self-evaluate my chances for both Residential and Online.

Also, if you have any tips on how to strengthen an application and make it stand out, I would really appreciate it.

And for anyone who didn’t get into NCSSM but got into other selective STEM programs or schools, I would love to hear what worked for you too.

Hi, I am an incoming at an HYPSM, and I got rejected from ncssm back in 2023. I wanted to make this post to give you hope that just because you got rejected from NCSSM doesn't mean that you won't get into your dream school. Its not an one way ticket.

Back when I was an sophomore and freshman in high school, I was obsessed into getting into this school. When results came in, my best friend got in but I didn't. In that moment, I felt like my dream of attending an t10 school was gonna be over. For hours, I would stare at my rejection letter and see what went wrong.

However, I still got so much oppurtunities and got to meet so much ambitious people. The rest of my time at my high school, I became student body president and improved student life at my school tremendously, started an initiative for mental health for my community that won multiple awards, invested more time into my passion for writing.

Eventually, I also became an Youngart winner. If you don't know what Young arts is, its one of the most competitive art awards to win. On top of that, I still got to work with professors at t20 schools.

There are so much more oppurtunities you can pursue. So I will leave you with one advice: Rejection is redirection.

Is it really necessary to bring a whole backpack since I'm using my ipad to take notes? Or is there a smaller alternative that should work?
