Effecive 11:00 p.m. CST on Thursday, January 7, 2026, all questions, comments and discussion related to the 2026 America The Beautiful Pass belong in this megathread.
Any and all other posts will be removed going forward.
In the past seven days alone, there have been 10 separate posts on the subject. Since the new design was announced, there are more than two dozen posts. That does not count the ones that have been removed for being outright duplicates of other posts. Those posts remain open and will continue to remain open barring excessive abuse in the comments.

Discussion of the subject matter is not being suppressed or silenced. It's just being organized in one location.

"Help Me Plan My Vacation" Posts

We're getting a lot (A LOT) of "help me plan my vacation" posts with little or no details. That's "low effort," and it doesn't help folks actually help you.
Yes, it's good to know that it's two adults and a 3-year-old. Or it's two adults, a teenager and a 7-year-old, etc., but they need more than that.
Give people some additional details to help them help you.
For example:
- Where are you originating your travel from?
- Do you want to fly to your destination or drive?
- If you're driving, do you prefer to camp (in national park or near) or stay in a hotel, lodge, etc. (in national park or near)?
- How many days do you have available (including travel)?
- Are there specific things you are wanting to see (mountains, snow, waterfalls, wildlife, etc.)?
- If you're looking for hikes, are there certain things you want to see while hiking? What distance hikes are you looking for? What level of intensity (easy, moderate, strenuous)?
Again, help people help you. The fewer questions that they have to ask you in advance, the quicker you're going to get the kind of information you need.

Some final photos from Lassen last week. The more I reflect on it the more I realize how much I liked it.

I posted a few times about this park/trip, but I really liked it. Sure Manzanita lake was kind of a madhouse of tourists, but once we got out of there it was so much more quiet than Yosemite, Sequoia, or Kings Canyon. Just wish it wasn’t so damn far away.

Issues with Recreation.gov timed entry

Anyone else having issues with this app? I'm logged in and trying to make a reservation to visit Brainard Lake Recreation Area in CO, but I keep getting this message "Guest checkout is currently unavailable for Timed Entry transactions at this location. Please create or log in to a Recreation.gov account to complete your checkout. This banner will be removed when the issue is corrected.". I am logged in... I even tried signing up again and it says an account already exists with my email. I don't understand what's going on... Tried deleting cookies, tried using a different device... It still says the same thing :(

Ticket advise

Hi, I am from the UK, coming to the US in November this year.
We are planning to visit Yosemite, Sequoia and Zion.
I’m having a little trouble working out the tickets that are required. My partner I am going with is a US citizen, he was born in Florida and holds a US passport. Am I right in thinking this makes him eligible for the ‘America the Beautiful’ annual pass?
On the NPS website it states:
Depending on the type of entrance fee charged at a site, covers
One private vehicle fee
or
Four per person fees
Does this mean I can enter the park as a guest on his ATB pass or do I need to buy myself a non US citizen pass to enter?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it’s all a bit confusing and I don’t want to buy the wrong thing and miss out!
