If you live in District 19 what are your thoughts on a sitting commissioner being charged that is running for re-election?

Early Voting - What to Expect

Hi all, I went to vote early this morning. Here's just some information I didn't know.

  1. I prepared my choices by visiting ballotpedia, but there are several races to vote on which are not included there. A couple are the Sheriff, Mayor for the City of Murfreesboro, and city council members.

The full ballots can be seen here:

https://rutherfordcountytn.gov/election

A little explanation... You will choose to vote in the Democrat or Republican primary. So the ballot you see will be the combination of General + Democrat or Republican + Murfreesboro & Smyrna Municipal.

For the General ballot sample, on the actual ballot only your specific district options will be shown so if won't be so long. I was county commission district 20 Trey Gooch vs Josh Walker, and School District 7 Julie Wishing vs Jonathan Yancey.

  1. What to bring: Your voter registration, and a photo id (drivers license, passport etc). I used my passport.

  2. I voted at Lane Agri-Park. There was no line, very quick and friendly. I don't think the building has AC though so go in the morning or expect it to be a little warm.

Remember, not all voting locations are open to early voting.

Here is a list of early voting locations and times:

https://rutherfordcountytn.gov/early-voting

I think that's it. Get out and vote!

Edit: AC should be fixed at Agri-Park moving forward!

Why You Should Vote in This Democratic Primary

If you haven't heard, there is an election going on. Early voting has started today and runs through August 1, before Election Day proper on August 6. As of yesterday, turnout is not even at 1% (2,131 votes out of about 217,000 registered voters). After the May primary, which was admittedly very sparse on the Democratic side, there is a temptation from that side to either not come out or pull a Republican ballot to affect the GOP Governor Primary. However, there are multiple reasons why you should come out, and come out Dem:

There's probably a contested local race in your area. In addition to the primaries for state and federal office, the main election for all local races are also happening. And Democrats are contesting 17 of the 21 County Commission seats (vs. only 10 in 2022) and all 3 School Board seats up this year. And many either are currently represented by Dems or are winnable, particularly in Boro city limits and La Vergne.

There are contested Primaries. While a lot of news time has been spent discussing the GOP Governor primary, there are multiple contested and potentially close Democratic primaries to come out for. Jeri Green (currently Shelby County's Chief Public Defender) is a competent candidate for Governor who should be our nominee, but there is a risk that Carnita Atwater, a gadfly with credible allegations of fraud, wins because of her alphabetical first name, so we need more informed voters to guarantee that doesn't happen. And both new Congressional primaries have interesting contest, and both are winnable in November. In TN-4, which is the majority of RuCo, Nashville CM Mike Cortese is easily the strongest competitor against Rep. DesJarlais, but the prior nominee for the District is also trying to make a case to be the nominee again. And in TN-9, your district if you're in the general Rock Springs/Ridge/Hamlets area (like me), Progressive Tennessee Three member Rep. Justin Pearson and establishment Sen. London Lamar are vying to be the nominee.

It brings resources to RuCo. If you don't know, I am the Democratic nominee for State House 13, which is among the state's closest districts. One thing the powers that be look at in assigning resources and races to invest in is number of Democratic primary voters vs. Republican. There are multiple districts in RuCo that could flip in November (mine, HD49, SD13) and to show that we need as high of turnout as we can manage.

Here's some info on the early vote direct from the County Election Commission website. You can go to any of the sites on that page to put in your early vote. I would highly encourage you to make a plan to vote this week, next, or on Election Day. Thank you for reading!

I've been a fulltime piano and guitar teacher for the past 4 years and just wanted to offer my services over here! Here's a video from my senior recital at MTSU and while I trained in classical, i actually started on electric with rock and metal and have practically played every genre in a variety of bands. All that to say is that jazz and country lessons are also very welcome.

I dropped off a rental and noticed the sign looked a bit weathered, so figured I’d look on Google Maps to see how long it had displayed the same message. As it turns out, 2016. (Prior to this it looks like it was changed regularly.)

Psychologist/therapist recommendations

Hi fellow Boro folk!

I’m looking for recommendations for a really good talk therapist or psychologist. I already have a psychiatrist that manages my meds but need someone for verbal counseling.

OCD, major depression, LGBT issues are primary concerns of mine.

I’ve already looked at the psychology today search engine, looking for more personal recommendations from locals.

Thank you!

Bambini Montessori experiences

Anyone who can speak to their experience with Bambini Montessori since the new owners have taken over? We’ve heard some scary stuff about the school *prior* to the new owners, so we would just like to hear about more recent experiences 2025-present.

Veterinarian Recommendations

Looking for a new vet in the area for our dogs and cats, may have posted in here before but looking for new recs. We were going to Southern Vet Center in Smyrna which was a short drive from the Veterans side of town, but now live on the opposite side towards Oakland. Additional thoughts on VCA Creekside would be nice, have had students work there in the past.

First Horizon customers: online banking glitch

Post image

I'm sharing this here because I'm working in town and see there are a bunch of First Horizon branches. You might want to check in with friends and family who bank with First Horizon to make sure they fix it instead of getting surprised by it when trying to pay the rent or do anything else time-sensitive.

Murfreesboro Uber Eats PSA: 7 orders in 2.5 hours made $20 total. Please remember to tip your drivers.

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a quick post for anyone in the Murfreesboro area who uses Uber Eats or is thinking about driving for them.

I just finished a 2.5 hour shift where I completed 7 total orders and walked away with a grand total of $20. That breaks down to about $8 an hour before even considering the cost of gas.

Across those seven runs, the tips were either nonexistent or only $1 to $2. Multiple of these trips were Shop and Deliver orders, meaning the driver actually goes into the store, finds the items on the shelves, stands in line, checks out, and delivers them to your door.

If you are a customer using the app, please understand that the high delivery and service fees you pay to Uber do not go to the drivers. The base pay Uber gives us is incredibly low. When you leave a small tip or no tip on an order, especially a grocery run that requires shopping, your driver is often losing money on gas just to bring you your items.

For anyone looking to drive as a side hustle right now, please be careful and selective with the orders you accept.

Thank you to everyone who does tip well. It truly makes a massive difference for the people delivering in our community.

New in town, looking for recommendations. (Affordable food, thrift stores, free activities)

Howdy folks! Me and my wife just moved to town, and are looking for a handful of recommendations, and any opportunities to meet some new friends to begin our new life. If anyone has anything to share, that would be awesome. We are rather frugal, so are looking for any places with good deals.

- Restaurants that have large servings at a decent price. For example, somewhere we can get a dish for $12ish, which is large enough to have leftovers for 3+ meals. Or any places that might have an exceptional weekly deal.

-Any legitimate thrift stores you might know of (50c - $5 clothes/ tools, etc), NOT something like Goodwill, or one of those consignment shops.

-Cheapest liquor store, or tobacco shops.

-Grocery stores that are exceptionally affordable ( vegetable market, butcher, etc)

Other things we would love ideas for:

- some swimming hole ideas to check out, bonus points if it has a great spot for me to build a rope swing 😅.

-IF you have any regular groups/activities/ cheap music or dancing you know of, I'd love to hear about it.

-cheap bowling or pool hall. Typically, the more mom/pop the better, even if you might consider it a "dive", those are our type of people.

-We LOVE playing disc golf, and cards too. So if yall would want two more folks joining in a round, let me know!

Thank yall for any insight! Also.... if anyone thought "John Mulaney" when you read the post heading, that was on purpose.
