Every fucking time an original film does well, there's this exact article saying moviegoers are tired of IP - meanwhile IP still dominates. Has anyone considered that uh, maybe not all IP are created equal? And some put butts in seats and some don't?

I think what’s actually happening is the biggest IPs are now clearly marketed for young children. Of course Super Mario and Toy Story are going to do gangbusters because they appeal to the broadest demographic. With Marvel, DC and Star Wars in clear decline, the void is being filled with more original work because audiences are not turning up to watch the latest comic book movie without there being an interesting hook.

Spiderman and Avengers will undoubtedly do well but those are massive franchises with good will built in. It’ll be interesting to see how they perform compared to their most recent installments. I predict they will not perform as well, but we’ll see.
