Yeah, there isn’t an eye roll big enough for these types of articles. Hand pick a few data points then “prove” some point.

Disneys real life remakes “prove” that fans highly prefer animated and cgi features right?

Good story, compelling visuals, great acting and directing. The fans don’t really care how you get there.

Sure, but most of those movies don't have any of those things either. I think there's just a correlation that you can safely rely on even if it isn't the cause. If you see a tent pole franchise with a bunch of CGI and big name stars, you're probably gonna get some boring, unoriginal dog shit

What they actually want is marketing. That’s what makes or breaks a film. If you look at what films did well, it’s never about the quality. It’s always about the marketing campaign.

You're half right. Fundamentally, the biggest competition studio films have right now is the inertia of "I'll see it when it hits streaming."

To overcome that, you need a bit of FOMO. It actually being a quality movie is super helpful because that's free word of mouth marketing. A successful marketing campaign can help generate it when the absence is there.

But some films are harder sells than others. I'd argue Moana and Mando were destined to fail because it's stupidly hard to create FOMO for a remake of a ten year old film which you can watch any time on streaming. And a film sequel to a streaming show which will just be on the streaming service in a couple months.
