Such a shame he couldn't negotiate for them to get better contracts for Children of Dune and God Emperor and scrapped those movies.

But kind of also on them, crazy how the fame got into their heads, asked for crazy raises and now we are only getting Part 3 which is based on Dune Messiah

The space was CGI but they went out and found real alien life for the film. Pretty dedicated!

No, I get that. But it is strange to see 'slop' being used for CGI instead of the usual 'AI'.

True. But the reason I’m using -slop to refer to CGI is to dilute the meaning of the word. I despise when the word -slop is used to refer to things unironically. Or things that aren’t A.I. People use -slop as legitimate criticism and it annoys me. So I use it ironically.

Mandalorian and Grogu used legitimate puppetry for many of the aliens, including Grogu. CGI isn't why Mando underperformed

it had practical sets, props, and rocky was puppeted. When everything but the actor is CG it feels disconnected.

Dune was shot on location with actual sets. Yes, CGI is used, but it's not the epicenter of the film, it's used to enhance.

Take for example Captain America Brave New World. That entire film was CGI or soundstages. I remember a scene where they were around DC cherry trees with blossoms. Except they weren't, it was incredibly fake.

Dune is still largely shot out in the real world instead of in the Volume. The natural lighting in that trailer is a pretty stark contrast to the gray of Doomsday trailer.

The article doesn’t say CGI is bad or that Project Hail Mary and other successes don’t use it. It’s that they “feel” real, even in the marketing. Dune is filmed in the Liwa Desert rather than a studio lot with green screens, so it’ll also probably feel real (and Denis doesn’t miss IMO he knows how to balance his visuals)

Dune is full of practical effects. It has cgi,yes, but it looks "realistic" in general and that's why it looks so good visually. For example, the use of natural light in most scenes makes a movie appear realistic.

Nah dune has always had a balance with the current director. On the other hand mando and supergirl were just trash. Story, balance and sound mix were all huge disappointments to me. I regret seeing the mando movie in theaters. We thought it should’ve been a streaming movie.
