Hello everyone,
As you might be aware, I've spent time over the last few months tracking down as many of the game developers of Morrowind that I can find, and doing interviews with them to talk about their experiences working on the game - discuss certain elements of their contributions, share some anecdotes and reflect on the game nearly 25 years after its release.
I'm really proud of this, and have tried to make this as authentic and all encompassing as I can - but there's still so much more out there. Sadly I was unable to find contact details for some people. Others either didn't reply to me, or turned me down. Hopefully one day we as a community can hear their stories but for now this is the best I can do.
This is 8 hours of interviews with the game devs. My idea for uploading one long video clip is that people can cherry pick bits they want to watch - but also to encourage people to watch interviews they might have otherwise overlooked/missed had they been posted separately.
Its difficult to put down in writing the impact this game has had on my life, as I'm sure it has for many others. I'll never forget my first experience playing the game on an Xbox around a friend's house and just instantly being drawn pulled into that world. Since then I've spent countless hours exploring Vvardenfell and beyond, and the game has been a constant source of joy and comfort for me. It's a game I will continue to love and play for the rest of my life, no doubt.
I hope you all enjoy this. A big thanks to everyone who took the time to do video calls with me. It has truly been a pleasure working on this.

Alright, so I've started with TES with Oblivion and then Skyrim. I've been wanting to try Morrowind for the longest time and finally decided to give it a go.
I'm only using OpenMW, no mods.
I've created two characters already and every time I grow frustrated with the game, but not the usual suspects.
Combat doesn't bother me, I understand it's dice roll based and thus I don't really care about my sword going trough the enemy and missing thing that most people complain about. That was very easy to get into.
Lack of map markers doesn't bother me, I'm used to playing games without them, I can where I need to go by reading the dialogue and opening the map.
No Fast travel doesn't really bother me too much either, when I play Skyrim I rarelly make use of it, so not having it either made little difference. Only sucks sometimes when I'm really far away in the wilderness, and getting harassed by cliffracers.
No, what's frustrating me is more subtle nuance things.
What first caused me to kill my first character was a single enemy. Greater Bone Walker.
I'm sure all of you know what it does, and I DESPISE these sort of enemies with a passion, not just in Morrowind but other games. The whole bullshit gimmick of deleting my stats and then locking me in place forever is complete bullshit. I know you can fix it by finding the restore atribute potions, but I was stuck in the middle of nowhere inside a freaking tomb, and last time I saved was a while ago. I said fuck it and restarted.
I made the same character again but this time I added Alchemy as a major skill. Thinking it would help me keep a bunch of potions for those bad enemy designs. Only to find out you can fail potion creation, by like, A LOT.
Picked entire fields of mushrooms and flowers, bought all the journeyman instruments that I could find and got 6 potions out of it. SIX!
And to top it off, the Alchemy equipment weighs quite a bit, so I'm forced to never pick up a lot of stuff thanks to weight limits. I much prefer the Alchemy Stations in Skyrim to this, this is some honest bullshit.
And now I'm here. Pretty frustrated and annoyed at the game. I'm thinking of going full mage this time and rely on restoration instead but let me know of further pitfalls like these.
Or just tell me how to have the smoothest run possible with this game.

When I became archmage, I was locked out of mages guild quests. Is this a thing with all guilds or just certain ones?

as such i lack perspective for Beast races, i think both khajit and argonians looks a bit dumb
and i can't get over running without BoBS or nice helmets

description copied from Nexus for your convenience and my laziness:
Description
TR canon says Firewatch underwent a failed coup during the Simulacrum 30ish years ago, during the Simulacrum. You can see some signs of this in the official TR release, but I thought it'd be neat to extrapolate on that idea in a light, compatible way. Part of a little series I've been doing, such as Helnim Wooden Wall.
Installation instructions
Mod organiser of choice, or extract to your Data Files folder and check the box in your OpenMW launcher. Recommend leaving it as low priority in your load order as a precaution. E.g. stick it right next to Tamriel Rebuilt and Tamriel Data, to be extra safe.
I use OpenMW but there's no reason it shouldn't work on vanilla engine.
Main features
More scorch marks around the city, especially the fort.
Replaced many nearby trees and shrooms with burnt remnants, shrubs or smaller ones.
Bit of extra wooden walls nearby, implying the city used to have more sprawl.
Broken well.
Requirements
Tamriel Data & Tamriel Rebuilt, latest publicly available version from the Nexus page. Also Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions (presumably)
Shout outs
Absolute credit to the Tamriel Rebuilt team, who are the true gods of Morrowind and not the False Tribunal. This ESP contains no assets and does nothing without the ESMs.

I love this feature, it's using one mod for positioning nothing else. I need to start looking for bigger home though, running out of wall and shelves. Bought also archery practice target from Fighters Guild (mod), so i need some long corridors. Brought some nice cup from Ald-Ruhn to my night table, put couple diamonds next to it. What a time to be alive. Wealth beyound measure..

Obvious disclaimer: I have nothing but praise and gratitude to Pozzo and Mort for making and updating this old classic mod. It's considered essential for any veteran IMHO. Recommend the 2.0 version specifically.

So time for spoilers!
Long story short, the best ending involves you successfully getting the Duke assassinated and pinning the blame on his brother, who had after all canonically planned to potentially do it. This is good writing that builds on vanilla foundations.
Buuuut replacing the Duke with his daughter seems like a huge risk with questionable rewards. Both in vanilla and during ROHT, Vedam is arguably quite a useful and flexible guy, who barely needs any convincing to give you official permission to build Tel Uvirith even after Telvanni flagrantly violated Imperial laws. ROHT even handles slavery quite well, letting you make abolition a not only moral but PRACTICAL political decision, though still a messy one. Vedam may ultimately be a loyal Hlaalu and thus an Imperial vassal, but he's never seemed unreasonable or militant to me.
On the other hand, we are given every reason to distrust King Helseth. He's a significantly harder target in all regards, but the death of the Tribunal makes his position more juicy and he already has plenty of enemies trying to kill him. It's actually a bit funny how much more tempting he is as a target. For blackmail at the very least.
If we're determined to kill a leader and install a more malleable figurehead, why not Helseth? Would not one of his many rivals gladly sell their soul for power, in the Hlaalu fashion? Telvanni can't be as brazen as doing an outright coup, but a mage-lord of a powerful political faction could surely be a kingmaker?
I guess the TLDR is that Duke Vedam Dren doesn't seem like an actual obstacle in either vanilla or ROHT. To a truly free and independent Morrowind, sure, but a useful and plausible puppet Duke seems like a good status quo even if we're just talking about Vvardenfell specifically. Vvardenfell could become a de facto Telvanni playground with de jure plausible deniability, AND unprecedented communication with the King too.
Bonus point! Optional but interesting!
Furthermore, would Duke Vedam not be a likely successor King regardless of our ability to help him? His proven track record of convincing even the Telvanni Archmagister to work with the Empire on some issues, let alone if that Telvanni is also the *slayer of Dagoth Ur*, would see his star in ascendence. Putting Vedam Dren on the throne of the whole province would also have the desired effect of putting his gullible daughter in charge of Vvardenfell. In theory ! Not as confident in this part but it's another idea.
Thanks for patience beyond measure in reading this.

I love telling people how they need a specialized, goal-oriented, non-Nerevar*ne character to commission me a portrait, even as my own character is an unremarkable done-it-all. To remedy this, I've been testing an Imperial pugilist build where I make a beeline for Solstheim and try to conquer the island by co-opting East Empire Company's miner crew. Perfectly viable at level 1 methinks, given Drain Fatigue racial power.

I checked everything, switched the settings from fullscreen to windowed, back and forth.. nothing works. Windowed fullscreen works like normal fullscreen. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks for your help!

Has anyone completed the Caldera Priory plugin? The Burning Soul skeleton disappeared. Is that supposed to happen or was I too slow in defeating it?

My friends used to come over to my house when I was 13 and sit on my couch and watch me play Morrowind on my OG Xbox, all night. They would see my dungeon diving, fighting strange creatures, and just generally delving into this wierd in obscure world in epic ways.
One night they came over, and I was playing a new character, a Khajit living in Vodunius Nuccius's house. Scattered throughout the house were dozens and dozens of books stacked on top of the bed, side tables, dining room table, and floor, all over the place.
My friends were so confused by this and asked me why there were all these books strewn around the house. I told them, "Well, because my character is a Librarian, see, he doesnt fight; he just, I don't know...collects books to read and relax in his small home. He's a pacifist, so he doesnt attack or harm others, so if I want to find a book in a dungeon or near an enemy, I basically just have to avoid and sneak past them without attacking anyone."
Immediately, all my friends started cracking up laughing to the point some had tears running down their face. In fact, it became a running joke of the sleepover that I was the "Librarian" and the concept that my character was just collecting books to read was so nerdy and ridiculous. It basically kept them laughing and joking about it all night and still to this day they remember the character when I bring it up.
Here is the truth about that Librarian character. Looking back on it, I see that he was actually created to be an extension of me, of a personal fantasy to be living in a fantasy world where I could just collect books, chill, listen to the rain, and read all night in the comfort and safety of my own home.
The librarian character was like a personal form of therapy for me. To play as this silly pacifist "librarian", although it seemed silly to my friends, ended up being one of my favorite characters ever of any RPG.
And that is one of the most beautiful things about Morrowind; more than any other RPG, it was a true escape into another world where you could truly just be whoever you wanted to be in that world.

I can't seem to find a good heightmap for importing into other games like cities skylines & transport fever 2.....
does one already exist or do i need to make one?

Sometimes I wish to myself that we’d get a proper Morrowind series or movie, and I’ve gotta say I really can’t think of anyone better to play the man himself. Keep it going in the comments who would you want to play the tribunal, Nerevar in flashbacks, the nerevarine, etc etc
God I fucking love Mads Mikkelsen (bit of a shame his face would be covered for most of it but you’d definitely see him as Voryn Dagoth ofc)

I can only play the game on my Xbox One S and seeing the reviews from the Xbox players I'm feeling discouraged that I'm not going to have a good experience. This will be my first time playing.
