Base size does not matter in Mordheim.
Base shape does not matter in Mordheim.
The bigger your base, the more enemies can get in base contact with you in melee.
Square bases can be surrounded by 8 models of the same size.
Round bases can be surrounded by 6 models of the same size.
Therefore, larger round bases are perfectly fine.
If you have problems with mouth breathers, remind them the actual base size would have been smaller and you can fit them through the gap or down the alley way.

I still need to clean up the model a bit by cutting away and sanding down the miliput, plus I’d like to add a few bits and bobs — but here is another Witch Hunter for my Grimdark WH warband.

You can see the rest of the crew by searching here in the group or on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dreadheim_?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

Thanks for looking

Undead and Black Orcs square off in the city of the damned.

My undead fought some black orcs as We tried to secure the central tower. During the fighting a blood letter heard the sounds of battle and decided to join, but was too slow as the vampire turned the area around the tower into a fresh graveyard. The Black orcs routed without taking out a single undead.

How essential are helmets?

Greetings all,

I’m putting together a Beastman warband and most of the heroes have something that could pass as a helmet. Shall I bother modelling something for those who don’t? Are helmets as useful as they seem or can I go without?

Squigs are insane! We've been playing them as being able to move into charges because their movement technically isn't a charge, it just counts as one if they end their move touching another model. They are incredibly cheap for their statline and abilities!

My trappers haven't really done much at all. I'm considering not bothering with traps because they don't seem to come up much and you have to burn an entire turn setting one up. Am I missing something with traps?

My Ogre Hunter destroyed a goblin with a crit from his crossbow, which unfortunately will probably saddle me with it rather than bulk out my gang.

Currently running Ogre Hunting Party against Night Goblins.

Anyone got any tips or tricks for a new player for things to remember or do differently?

I'm also working on an Ostlander Mercenary warband.

Advice on Dark Elf Warband

I'm getting in Mordheim, and I was after advice on my Dark Elf Warband.

I have a Dark Elf army, so I thought Corsair styled Warband could be cool.

Ive written a starting list, bit wanted advice if I'm on the right track or totally off.

Dark Elves

Heroes

High Born 130 gc

Sea Dragon Cloak [50 gc], Free Dagger, Sword [10 gc]

Beast Master 55 gc

Beastlash [10 gc], Free Dagger

Fellblades 55 gc,

Free Dagger, Sword [10 gc]

Fellblades 55 gc,

Free Dagger, Sword [10 gc]

Soceress 55 gc

Free Dagger

Henchmen

Corsairs 75 gc, Free Dagger, Repeater Crossbow [40 gc]

Corsairs 75 gc, Free Dagger, Repeater Crossbow [40 gc]

I have a Fellheart model for the leader, some old assassins for the Fellblades, and corsairs for the henchman.

Any advice is much appreciated, if the starting equipment is too much, or if I'm better taking more Corsairs and not worrying about the crossbows. Cheers!

Underdog Fixes/Formula Change (Help a brother out!)

Thumbnail

Hey gang, plodding my way through Mord Hive and starting to transpose campaign rules.

One thing that always got me was kind of how useless the underdog rules where for actually accounting for the power differential between warbands.

My group has played a lot of Trench Crusade lately which has essentially a model and ducat (read GC) cap on battles depending on what stage in the campaign you are. While I don't quite want to go that far (as it can limit more successful warbands a lot!) it certainly helps curb the level of one sided-ness that can occur in game.

I was wondering if anyone has made any successful house rules for a better underdog formula.

This is what I've been noodling with as just an option in the book, but would love to know what other people have done to try and remedy the underdog issue.

Beastmen load-out ideas

Hi! I've been hobbying up hil lately, but now I'm done. And to reward myself I want to kitbash some Beastmen (my favorite).

Now for Fantasy Battles there is not a lot you can do with bestigors, gors and ungors, so I was thinking "what are fun/ unusual/ downright stupid load outs for Mordheim?".

So hit me with your best ideas! It doesn't have to be optimal or even good, I'm not playing the game currently. I just want to have fun building some models!

New to Mordheim, tips for skaven

Post image
83 Upvotes

Hey, Mordheim newbie here. I started playing Skaven in AoS a couple of months ago and really enjoy them. There isn't really a Mordheim scene in my town but I am really interested in it having played some Necromunda this year (Helot Cultists) and enjoyed that, but always been more interested in fantasy.

Are there any particular units I should collect to have the models for Mordheim, like the new gutter runners, or would I be fine with my clanrats?

edit:

I was probably too vague with which models I already own, here ya go:

1x grey seer

1x master moulder

1x engineer
60x clanrats

10x stormvermin

6x rat Ogors

6x jezzails
1x Brood terror
2x Verminlord
1x screaming Bell
1x rattling warpblaster

Jester with no legs

Here's my take on the “jester with no legs” - the unreleased GW miniature modeled after John Wigley's brilliant rulebook illustration.

I found the original color version of the artwork on Wigley's instagram and wanted to follow it closely. That meant I first needed a sword; I couldn't find an exact match to the artwork, so I sculpted a new hilt for a greatsword from the Mordheim mercenary sprue.

Painting-wise, the most interesting task was the motley with the dirty blotches of yellow and red. The top part of the face is supposed to be in a deep shadow (again to match the artwork), but I know it ended up looking more like a mask or facepaint… 😀

I'd be intrigued if anyone has some knowledge of the model's history—Collecting Citadel Miniatures doesn't even seem to list the sculptor. Why was it never released?

Squire Guillaume

Finally, inspiration and motivation hit again and the next Squire for my Bretonnian Chapel Guard is done!

Meet Squire Guillaume - a noble born lad who has not seen much of the world so far. He had pretty much everything fed to him with a golden spoon. His Equipment is of the best quality, his tabard shows his knight's colour, yet he also wears the maroon colours of the Order of the Healing Blood. Of course, his tabard is of the finest material - earning him some scorn from the other squires. Unwilling to drop these fine clothes, he took a simple cloak to cover his clothes from prying eyes.

All the money in the world and all his heritage did not prepare him for the horrors of Mordheim and when the dead at his feet started rising, he realised this might be more than he could handle - thus the slightly perplexed expression.

I had a really good time with this one - I tried something new with the Sword, I planned to go for a more blueish tint, but somehow ended up with a sort of Obsidian/Steel blade.

The miniature was sculpted by Vae Victis and is of really good quality and detail!

Second board for my 15mm mordheim is almost done! Still needs some water for the canal, which will be added "soon". Bridge is still being painted, but little by little this 3D printed board keeps growing. 2 more boards and few buildings to go!

Each board tile is 36x36cm and the whole board will be 72x72cm which is the perfect size for a small apartment or to take with me to friend's house.

Silly questions about Monkeys Paw and Lamp

I am trying to make sure I am playing these items correctly and I have some questions;

-With MP do I essentially get nine positive rolls and three negative before the paw disappears?

-How is positive outcome 4 and 5 on the positive table implemented? Do I just buy a new one from my warband list even if I am at my max both in terms of individuals (say the limit of one magician) and the warband limit of 6? Like obviously you can have over six, it's in the description, but I don't understand if I just hire a new hero or if I can promote a henchy.

-For the lamp, how do people randomly get equipment? Does it include the rarity list?

2D6 probability table for explaining to younger players

Post image
28 Upvotes

I'm sure everyone that plays this game is intimately familiar with the phase-space of two six-sided dice. However, for those that have become so familiar with it it's become instinctive, here is a handy-dandy printable handout (A4) you can hand out to whoever you're trying to explain it to. For me, it was nieces/grand-kids. If you want a PDF or if you want the original document so you can convert it to some obscure or uncivilized paper size (e.g. letter) message me and I will fling it over.

I'm sure over 80% of you all will be able to intuit over 80% of the page, but since I don't know *which* 80% of it people will already know here is the breakdown...

The rainbow square at the top represents all the possible results from rolling two dice and adding them together.

The rainbow pyramid next to it is all the different results put in piles in the order of the white totals at the bottom.

The two-column table on the left is a lookup table of 1-36 out of 36 as percentages while the right-hand table is the percentages of rolling above or below a 2d6-and-sum number e.g. Ld tests.

Example A and B are comparing a successful hit and parry vs an equal WS opponent (A) and a higher WS opponent (B). Obviously, the higher WS still generates more hits even if proportionally more of them are parried*.

C and D are comparing one shot hitting on 4+ vs two shots hitting on 5+.

E and F are crossbow at T3 vs bow with hunting arrows vs T3 and are looking at wounding hits that generate an OOA result. G and H are the same test, but at a T4 target. I and D are the same test as G and H, but vs a T4 dwarf. I and I are testing the same, but vs a T5 dwarf; the same example is twice because they use the same diagram, but one has the two rectangles flipped. Same number of OOA results though.

The blank one is there so you can copy and paste it to fill up a sheet so whoever you give it to can do their own tests.

*Incidentally, if you compare the even WS normal parry success rate vs parry-as-6+ you'll see they have the same number of squares/percentage (i.e. 3 or 8.3%) even if the space *is* a different shape. Higher WS parry rates make more sense with a 6+ save as well (IMAO).
