This is ridiculous, what is with the bible thumping in town. I'm trying to work and all I can here is praise jesus. If I wanted southerners preaching at me I'd go the that new church on Langdon st. Can we get this crap out of town? I'm not against religions of any type I just don't want to hear about it and the demonizing of others.

Who owns the sidewalks of Montpelier, and who pays when a homeless encampment becomes a legal liability? Which policies and ordinances can the City Council implement that won’t get the city sued? Those questions sent the Montpelier City Council behind closed doors Monday evening, when a five-member council convened a special meeting to talk to their lawyers.

Mayor Marc Gwinn called the special meeting to order at 6 p.m., telling those present that the council had gathered to receive counsel on homeless encampment liability to the city, on the East State Street right-of-way survey and possible litigation, and on the city’s ordinances governing morals and conduct, drinking in unlicensed places, and possible panhandling and sit-and-lie rules.

What is the deal with half of Sherwood turning into a parking lot at random times? It seems like every single Family Center client shows up at once. Are these special events or just picking up children? And can there be a better way that doesn't inhibit the flow of traffic? It's dangerous to try to go around the cars because the road is so narrow and there are so many curves that you can't see around but it's a pain in the ass to not be able to get home because cars are blocking the road and my driveway.

The Montpelier Development Review Board voted 6-1 on June 29th to close its public hearing on a proposed 20-unit housing conversion at 9 Heaton Street and move into deliberative session to draft its decision, brushing aside a neighbor’s plea for more study of traffic, noise and pedestrian safety.

Some residents wanted a traffic study, but the board declined to force the issue.

I have a very active 1 yr old, I'm afraid she's a little bored with our daily routine. Does anyone have suggestions for toddler activities in and around Montpelier?

are we excited for a gym in downtown montpelier? haven’t heard much on the street but seems like a good addition to town?

Obviously a car hit the house, but there’s 2 solid tire streaks that are arrow straight into the trees and house. I hope everyone is okay, but I’m morbidly curious. And did I see a guard rail hidden in the bushes there?

How is the crowd and everything ? The place seems higher end and I have yet to go there or attend any of the events.

I’m planning to explore the trails around town with my 8 and 9yos. Can anyone give some tips on where to head around North Branch River Park? We could probably to a 2-3 mile out and back, don’t mind starting from NBNC or the rec fields. I just can’t find good info on trail lengths and difficulty.

So, rumor on the street is that Lucky Boardman basically forced the Langdon Street Tavern out so he and Scott Kerner could open their own bar. Boardman said the LST was 6 months arrears on the rent, but the quick turnaround suggests this new bar was in the works for some time. I personally wasn’t a customer of LST, it just had no appeal for me, but this sort of move is wrong in my opinion. Another person said Boardman wants to purchase the building across the street that houses Get Up Vintage and J.Langdon. One might presume someone with the recent track record of Boardman may become hostile to those businesses as well.

Also, there’s an abandoned tandoor oven on the sidewalk outside the Indian Nepali restaurant which people are now using as a trash receptacle. That restaurant’s sticker signs are all off the windows.

Some of the windows and doors at the former Bent Nails Bistro are now boarded up, which is never a good sign. Some young people wanted to turn it into an art cafe space, but the boarded up windows almost make the building look derelict.

Edit: I removed the bit about the FREE BBQ, it seems they removed all mention of that on their FB page.

City councilors faced a wave of frustration over the city’s homelessness crisis on Wednesday, with residents and councilors alike demanding action they said has come too slowly.

The council pledged to keep the issue on future agendas and directed the city manager to bring back concrete recommendations on managed encampment sites, shelter options, and hygiene services.
