Why do they change it so much.

Hi everyone! I’m a rising high school junior from New Jersey and I’m starting to seriously narrow down where I want to attend college.
My goal is medical school (I’m currently most interested in oncology), and Montclair State has come up because it would likely be much more affordable for my family than some of my other options.

I’m looking at majors like Biochemistry or Biology, and I had a few questions for current students or alumni:

How strong is Montclair for pre-med overall?
How accessible are undergraduate research opportunities? Is it realistic to get involved during freshman or sophomore year?
Are professors approachable and willing to mentor students?
How is the pre-health advising and MCAT preparation?
Are there good opportunities for volunteering, shadowing, and clinical experience nearby?
Do students generally collaborate, or is it very competitive?

If you could choose again, would you still pick Montclair for pre-med?

For context, I enjoy learning outside of school and have started independently studying biology, chemistry, and calculus. I’ve also had the opportunity to shadow in a radiation oncology department, so I’m trying to choose a school where I can continue growing academically and get involved in research early.

Anyone who goes to this school looking to sell their old skylanders. If not just then looking for people who just enjoy skylanders to meet on campus

Currently in Essex County College pursing an A.S. Business Administration with an expected graduation date of May 2027. I plan to transfer to MSU in Fall 2027, but I want to know how the Finance program compares to schools like Rutgers or Kean. For those who are currently in this major at MSU...

I’m dorming in a double at Dinallo and was wondering what msu supplies you with. Should I expect to have to buy my own toilet paper, shower curtain, bathmat, broom, etc? Are there any items that my roommate and I definitely should bring before?

Hi everyone! I’m looking for some honest advice from people who are familiar with Montclair State, especially anyone who transferred here.
I was actually accepted to Montclair about five years ago as a high school senior. At the time, I had around a 3.0 GPA, but I ended up choosing another university instead because I wanted the experience of living away from home.
Unfortunately, things did not go the way I expected. During college I dealt with some pretty serious physical health issues and was also in an abusive relationship. Between those two things, my grades suffered a lot, and I ended up leaving with about a 2.3 GPA.
Since then, my life has changed dramatically. I’m in a much healthier place, and I’ve been working part-time at a music school teaching private voice, piano, woodwinds, and early childhood music classes. Music education is exactly what I want to do as a career, but I know I need my degree if I want to move into better-paying positions and eventually become a certified teacher.
For my transfer application, I wrote an essay explaining what happened at my previous school, what I’ve learned from it, and how I’ve grown. I also submitted a résumé highlighting my teaching experience and how it’s reinforced that music education is the career I want to pursue.
Even with all of that, I’m terrified my college GPA is going to outweigh everything else.

So I have a few questions:
- How much weight does Montclair place on a transfer applicant’s personal statement and résumé?
- Has anyone here been accepted with a GPA around 2.3?
- Do they tend to look at the whole application, or is GPA the deciding factor?
- Is there anything else I can do at this point to improve my chances, or is it mostly just a waiting game?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share. I’m trying to be realistic, but this school would honestly be a second chance for me, and I’m really hoping I have a shot.

When should I start applying for jobs in the city for the fall semester?

Has anyone around Montclair or Bloomfield found a good place for outpatient PT or sports rehab? I’m looking for somewhere that takes the time to figure out what is causing the issue instead of just giving basic stretches,alliance orthopedics in bloomfield is one place I’m considering, but I’m open to other options nearby too. Main things I care about are a good evaluation, clear plan, and someone who can help with getting back to normal activity safely.
