Information Bots, Spammers and AI Accounts - Tighter Filters
Hey everyone,
Admins suck; AI bots and spammers are inundating r/modesto, Reddit doesn’t seem to have a solution, I’m raising the filters again from moderate to maximum levels and adjusting settings to screen for this crap.
If your post gets auto-removed just hang tight, I’m gonna manually approve your post and your account. If I don’t see it because I’m busy IRL, just message the mods here and we’ll get you squared away.
It’s annoying I know. It’s annoying for me too. If this isn’t sustainable we’ll go another direction.
Thank you all for your understanding… except the AI thirst trap accounts, T-shirt selling scammers, and admins for doing nothing about this.

Promote your local business here! Updated Monthly
Hey everyone! We've recently tightened the rules a little bit about business promotion posts. We understand however that this is indeed a city subreddit and it would be mutually beneficial for local businesses and consumers to connect! Some promotions such as events are exempt from the tightened rules and may have their own thread. Please read rules 5 and 6. This is for business promotion and NOT a listing for goods for sale.
We still DO NOT allow private listings (including the sale of pets). Please keep those to places such as Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace. But if you're something of a realtor, a landscaper, handyman or private music instructor for example, feel free to promote your business or services. For now this is scheduled to post monthly, however the schedule may change depending on activity.
Note to consumers! Please exercise your due diligence. Make sure you're doing business with all properly licensed individuals/businesses. Research reviews and request referrals if you must!

Recommended dog boarding?
Hi Modesto area pals! I have two small dogs that are about 5 lbs each. One needs to be taking medication twice per day. My husband and I will be out of town for a few days in about 2 months.
Is there a local pet boarding service you would recommend? Or maybe a reputable pet sitting business?
Please let me know about experiences you’ve had.

Help! Looking for Whole Animals & Unwanted Parts from Local Hunters/Farms in Modesto (Chickens, Rabbits, Ducks, Novel Proteins, Offal)
Hey Modesto neighbors — I’m looking to buy whole animals and leftover parts from local hunters, backyard poultry folks, and small farms in the Modesto area. I’m specifically interested in:Whole chickensWhole rabbitsWhole ducksNovel proteins — anything beyond the usual poultry (legally farmed or hunted)Offal or unwanted cuts — organs, heads, feet, bones, trimmings, etc.I’m open to fresh or frozen, and I can pick up anywhere in Modesto or nearby rural areas (Salida, Riverbank, Waterford, Ceres, Hughson, Escalon, etc.). If you process animals and usually toss parts you don’t want, I’d be glad to take them off your hands.Looking to build ongoing local connections, so if you’re a hunter, homesteader, or small farm with periodic availability, feel free to reach out. Thanks Modesto — appreciate any leads or contacts.

Hello everyone. Stanislaus County animal shelter has several puppies. Some puppies are available now and some will be available in a few days. I'm trying to find adopters and fosters before these puppies end up on the euthanasia list . Thank you! 😊

Good places to study?
Hi there, I was wondering if you all have any good recommendations for places to quietly study on Saturdays? Are there any coffee shops that are moderately not that noisy?

Information What can you do for fun in Modesto?
Sorry, I don’t know what flair to use as I’ve never been on this subreddit before.
Hello, I (17GFL—Genderfluid for short) am wondering what I could do in Modesto for fun.
I am going to a college near Modesto in the fall (aprox. twenty minutes away) and after leaving the campus for a college tour last year my mom and I drove around the downtown Modesto area, it looks pretty cool down there. I couldn’t look around for long because it was night and we had to head home.
I was wondering what I could do down there for fun for an outing with possible friends during our free time over the occasional weekend (nothing like bars or parties, please and thank you).
While I’m on the topic of activities to do in Modesto, is there anything else I should I know about specific areas in Modesto? Is there anything I should know or any places I should stay away from for safety reasons?
I’m planning to look up places to go to in Modesto but I wanted to see what you all think first. Thank you and have a great day!

Help! ISO Cheap Apartment
Hello! I'm having a hard time finding an apartment for me and my cat. My cat needs more space than the shoebox I'm in, and there aren't many options that I've found. I work in Turlock so anywhere 30 minutes or less around there would be amazing. I only make $18/hr and while I'm trying to find a second job and/or higher paying one, there aren't many people hiring right now either. Thank you in advance and sorry mods if this isn't allowed!

Recommendations Is there anyone in the Stanislaus County area or beyond that can foster this 1 year old puppy? Please see the link below. Baby Bell is the only dog left from the euthanasia list that wasn't rescued. He will be euthanized tomorrow 7/21/2026 6:30 am. Rescues can't put Baby Bell without a foster.

Cell Service?
TLDR - does Mint, spectrum or visible get better signal here for data?
Hi! Me again, the family who just moved back to town. Looking for more advice.
So we’re currently mint users for the past 10 or so years. I’m curious if Verizon has better towers than T-Mobile here? I’m looking at spectrum and visible deals specifically before re-upping my mint contract.
We don’t wanna do the whole major plan thing. Spectrum is as close as we’re willing to go in that department.
So my question is who has better service in the area? We had AT&T before mint, but I don’t think they have a plan like mint/visible?
So yeah, Verizon towers vs T-Mobile towers, or if you have specific plans, which do you prefer? Spectrum, Mint or Visible?
We mostly plan to be between Modesto and Turlock areas, with some intentions to visit Bay Area’s.
Feel free to chime in other plans like this if you use them.
Sorry if this is a ramble, kind of in a rush lol, thanks for your time!

Hello everyone. I saw this petition on Facebook regarding the high number of dogs on the euthanasia list each week at Stanislaus County animal control. Even if we don't live in this county, we all work together to save Stanislaus County dogs. I'm hoping that whoever cares will sign.

Help! Please Help! Lost Dog Since 6/17
Hi everyone, I’m posting again about my dog, Quill, who has been lost in Modesto since 6/17. He is a small brown dog (about 18 pounds) wearing a teal collar. My cousin was dog sitting him when he got lost, so he doesn’t know the area. I have posted in fb lost/found dogs groups in the area. And we’ve put up over 200 flyers in the areas he was last sighted. Quill was seen on 6/24 and 6/25 in the E Briggsmore & Sunrise Ave area. My original post helped me get one of those sighting from a kind redditor. The last sighting on 6/25 someone saw him going west on Briggsmore towards McHenry. We haven’t had any sightings since then.
Please share this with anyone you know in the area and keep an eye out for my boy. We are desperately trying to find him and bring him home. We have also been checking the shelter in person at least every other day. If you see him, please comment or message me as soon as possible! Thank you!

Filipino communities in the central valley?
Howdy :) I used to be closely surrounded by fellow Filipinos through church in the bay area and API groups in college. Now that I'm no longer in those circles and not close to/with my family, it's been hard to connect with my heritage and I've been wanting to. Any local groups around here with a Filipino population? Open to all sorts of group types, book clubs, game clubs, random meet ups in the candle aisle at target. Just trying to reconnect! Thanks in advance for your input :)
(Note: looking for social groups, not individuals)
