What needs to go right for Mizzou (and others) to win the National Championship by ESPN writer Bill Connelly (who’s also a Mizzou Alum)
Football Some interesting media day insights
Just reading through Drink’s comments and some interesting things that stood out beyond the obvious Hardy and Atkins headlines:
1.) Drink seems bullish on the offensive line even with the Atkins setback. Said Luke Work has had the best offseason he’s ever seen from an offensive lineman. Think he is the leading candidate at RT. Also called out Dom Giudice in his transition to center and becoming the vocal leader in the room.
2.) Drink consistently named four DEs multiple times when asked about that room: Darris Smith, Langdon Kitchen, Daedan Hopkins, Jayden Jones. That appears to be your two deep heading into fall camp.
3.) Drink called out safety Jayden Mcgregory and corner Jaxson Gates as two freshman he sees playing early.
4.) Blake Craig is 100% healthy but will no longer handle kickoffs. Thank god.
5.) Drink called out Xai’Shawn Edwards multiple times as someone they really like. Think they have a capable backup until Hardy is back and good depth once that room is fully healthy.
6.) Drink mentioned Gracial and Marshall as the X factors on defense. They have been valuable backups but now it’s their time to play the bulk of snaps. Need to be dominant down to down if the defense is going to reach its potential.

Football Every year at SEC Media Days I'm disappointed but not surprised by SEC Media coverage of Mizzou
A list of things discussed during the MIZZOU segments before and after Coach Drink takes the stand on SEC Football Special on SiriusXM:
- Has Sam Levitt practiced?
- Should the Texas-Oklahoma game be played on campus?
- Should the Florida-Georgia game be played on campus?
- The status of the Cotton Bowl Stadium
- The Band Florida-Georgia line
- Fried food
- The width of John Mateer's neck
- LaNorris Seller's glasses perscription
A list of things NOT discussed during the MIZZOU segments:
- Mizzou's schedule
- Mizzou's Defense
- Mizzou's new wide receivers
It was also funny to hear the shift in narrative around Austin Simmon's, this time last year he's a Heisman darkhorse and they can't stop gargling Kiffin's nuts regarding QB play, Simmons gets hurt and now the guy is an afterthought in the conference.

Football Eli Drinkwitz talked the new nine-game conference schedule for the SEC, this year, as the Tigers have a TOUGH slate ahead for 2026. He was asked if he expects coaches around the league to think 'why did we go to nine games?' "We're all saying it."

The team had been “hopeful” about a midseason return for Atkins, but he suffered a setback in rehabbing his injury that has lessened that hope

I think Mizzou fans of the millennial generation and on are really lucky to see Mizzou football this good.
I was a kid when at the tail end of the Larry Smith era and many fans were very negative towards Mizzou football. What Gary Pinkel and Eliah Drinkwitz have done are simply incredible. It’s easy to forget that many players in the state in the 1980’s and 1990’s just scoffed at playing at Mizzou (Mike Rucker and Reggie Germany) because we were terrible. Now those guys are staying home and we have very good memories of seasons and many more.

Gary Pinkel and Dan Devine need a statue at Mizzou
I think the time for two hall of fame coaches to get memorialized is time. Enough of this nonsense Pinkel and Devine are such heros to Mizzou football. I have been preaching this on tigerboard since 2015 and they mock me. Both Pinkel and Devine need statues.

Yall ever wonder what would have happened if Pinkel stayed HC?
The man started us off HOT in the SEC... would we have at least one SEC title by now had he stayed coach?
