go to your room All that to probably charge his phone only 30% throughout the entire flight [NOT OC]

u/taeberry9595 18d ago
Every time I see someone using one of these, they say they bought it at the airport and didn't know it was like that😭😭😭 absolutely diabolical of airports to sell that.
1.1k
u/howtobegeo 18d ago
But like, if I got that I would cover it with a sweater or something. Or let my phone die. Or ask if anyone else has the cable I need. Or ask a flight attendant if they could take & charge my phone elsewhere so it wouldn’t bother other people.
So many less rude options.
(I am also over prepared and have all possible cables, so could give this person the cable they need to avoid this.)
320
u/taeberry9595 18d ago
Eh I don't disagree. If I had that thing and absolutely no way of covering it, I'd at least let a bit less of the cord out and try to use my hand. However, my point was, it's crazy airports will sell this... Like the person using it could be more considerate, but airports stocking these knowing they do that? Jail. Do not pass go, do not collect $200.

can't return something once you've left the airport. The only people buying charging cords at the airport are either unorganized or desperate because they lost/broke it, and in both cases, they're unlikely to return in any reasonable amount of time to return it.

If I was his seat mate I'd offer to use my "fast charging cable" that divers 100% of energy to charging the phone to make the hellish lights cease.

I learned that you can buy travel sewing kits in most airport gates at the little convenience shops and now you can use that random piece of trivia in whatever way you see fit
45
u/maddythemadmuddymutt 18d ago
I had a travel sewing kit, and those scissors would not be strong enough to cut the cord. They are barely strong enough to cut thread
20
u/unripe_mangosteen 18d ago
You can take scissors on planes as long as the blades are less than 3 or 4 inches long
9
u/PopularAd4761 18d ago
I was thinking like sewing scissors or cuticle trimmers. Just needs to cut that cord.

u/ShittyDriver902 18d ago

53
u/c14rk0 18d ago
Idk I could see someone that is REALLY bad about accidentally forgetting their cable in the hotel or such wanting one like this
You'd never forget to unplug it and take it with you...but you would want to destroy it the instant you used it instead
Would make a funny present to troll somebody who is always forgetting their cable and leaving it behind...

This is the only possible use for this, lol, you did it!
As a person who lost about 4 chargers this year having to shuffle from one extended stay to another while my partner was in the hospital awaiting his heart (sleep deprivation is no joke), I would've totally got this for exactly two months, never to deploy it again. Next time I'm hanging in the waiting room talking to other partners of heart transplant recipients, I'm going to recommend it 😂

u/c14rk0 18d ago

No one. These kiosk owners just buy the cheapest shit they can possibly find, not really caring why its so cheap.
All they know is that these stupid light up cables are 5 cents each and they're gonna turn around and sell them for $15.
183
u/your_old_furby 18d ago
This happened to me when I grabbed a new charger for my phone for my car, I feel like the box didn’t say anything about the rave mode but it probably did. I plugged it in and it was so distracting I had to get another new charger because that would one would have made me crash. Also I get migraines that cause vertigo so these need to come with much larger labelling about the light show situation.
74
u/SDGANON 18d ago
Man, it should have to come with a big warning label. That could induce a seizure in someone with epilepsy.
50
u/555Cats555 18d ago
Thats what my mind immediately went to as my sister has epilepsy.
I would be getting the flight attendant involved to get it removed as a safety hazard!

48
u/555Cats555 18d ago
Not all epilepsy is photosensitive but yes it could.
I have a family member who has a medic alert bracelet for epilepsy (and communication limitations) and I would be calling a flight attendant over if said family member were with me and say unless they want to risk a medical emergency they need to sort out the charging cable situation
