Not really in need of more pilots, but I imagine they'd want to be a package deal. Instead of one of them being flown to the other side of the galaxy while the other stays on whatever planet we happen to be on now

Discussion Highlander

So I’ve liked the Highlander as a Mech since I got into BT (as admittedly recent as that is), but I never enjoyed piloting it in MW5 before. Felt too slow (most of the Mechs I enjoy piloting are bare minimum 64 km/h) and the old Jump Jets didn’t help. But I decided to give it a shot again with the new Jump Jets and after getting the speed increase upgrade from the Cantina. I am so happy. It feels *so* much better to pilot now.

I know this is kinda simple to make a whole post for, but I just want to see if anybody else feels or has felt the same.

You better Fochting believe it! Shadow of Kerensky Costs of Campaign

Started playing the Dlc recently. I used an old save game where i had a ton of mechs & 620mil+ Cbills.

I am quite shocked with the clans mechs vs my own.

1st mission was a wipe out. Played it 4 times to get through with 2 x100T mechs blown up. 😆

As i am grinding through the game to collect Timber wolfs, Executioners & Warhawks... i realise i have burnt through some 500mil Cbills in repairs, weapons & mech purchases. By the time i finish the campaign, i have 5mil Cbills left. ( after selling maybe 10 assault mechs along the way) 🫣

🍇🍉🍑 I want to ask if this Dlc is really this hard for many of you also ? Or am I just too lazy to keep scumsaving ? Or I need to go back to Mech Academy ? 😬🫩

I almost got the Daichi twice from salvage. Pfffttt....😱

Discussion 3035 and i didn't find a single SLDF mech so far

Post image
8 Upvotes

Did they change how they spawn in Indutrial Zones? I only found 1 hero mech so far, which i don't care about but i can't seem to get a single Star League mech. Yes i have Mech Delivery and can just order them, the situation is still the same.

In my previous playthrough i had multiple of them by this point

Anyone knows if one of my mods might be interfering? I don't think any of them is supposed to affect spawn rates for them. Everything works perfectly otherwise but i'm not sure if i'm just unlucky or somehow banished all the SLDF mechs to the shadow realm

General Game Questions/Help ECM Mechs where and which one?

Hey y'all,

I'm playing for a while now (campaign only so far and not that far into) and recently I found an ECM on the market as well as a Raven. But the raven does not have an ECM slot and non of my other mechs has...

So what are the first ecm mechs I can expect to find and what is the easiest way to get my hands on one of them?

Discussion Make a lance or star of your favourite mechs, is it any good?

I like my clan mechs so a star would make sense here.

Shadow cat

Huntsman

Summoner

Black Lanner

Nova Cat

Yeah I wouldn't rate this star very highly, a slow sniper surrounded by 4 skirmishing harass types, not the most well balanced.

Discussion ER med/ER small introduction dates?

Have all DLC, been playing a career from the Kurita start and going through all the DLC campaigns, just finished Dragon's Gambit (~dec 3039), and realized - I haven't seen a single ER medium laser, what gives?

So far the only lostech ive been missing is streak srms and er meds/smalls, everything else I've come across in decent amounts

Iirc, on the lbx/uac side of things, only lb10xs and uac5s existed initially/in Star League era, did something similar happen for er lasers?

General Game Questions/Help Been away a few years. Current mod list?

Hey all! Just getting back into the game after a few years away, but I’m at a loss. Does anyone have a current mod list that they’re using? Any mods that are universally used by most everyone?

Thanks for any tips you can offer.

Discussion HardCore run ended...

Post image
405 Upvotes

Started a hardcore run of Mercs, Career mode, no reloads of any kinds for any reason (honestman).

Was doing ok, getting reputation, destroying bases, stacking C-bills. Purchased several large mechs (ANH-1X, CPLT-C1B, BLR-1G, BL-KNT, LGB-OW, CHP-1NB, CRB-27B and others), could do any mission, was on day 1080 or Dec 30 3017.

Journey has been fun to this point, though not without challenges. I failed a sequential mission where I got overwhelmed and ejected before complete destruction, but I lived. Was having fun, thinking I was set for the long run... UNTIL

On a Solaris match, I take my Battlemaster on a normal map arena. Mr. Firestarter is the closest and not going to the location where everyone else is doing battle, so I head to him.

He's just standing there, so I target the leg with my 7 mlasers because of hitboxes I might not oneshot him, and also because I wanted to do "laser damage" objective. LEG GONE, lil bro turns to me and I instantly die.

All his weapons hit my cockpit, just my cockpit, and I as killed in one hit. Not a single other part of my mech was damaged.

RIP Honestman Mason.

Discussion How do you think they'll handle Operation Bulldog and Serpent?

Cuz to my knowledge, the two take place simultaneously and we cant be in both spaces at once.

i think given the map, they'll have us join in Bulldog and handle Serpent via news or cutscene so that they dont need to expand the galactical map all the way to clan space

Request Need Help Finishing a MW5 Weapons Spreadsheet

Hi fellow mechwarriors,

I’ve put together a spreadsheet based on data from Sarna about MW5 weapons and their various features. The idea is to see how weapons compare not just in terms of raw damage per hit, but also damage per minute, damage per ton, range, spread, etc. It’s been pretty insightful and helped me crystallize some build ideas for my mechs.

That being said, the information on Sarna is incomplete. They have not yet updated with the latest weapons, and I have had to fill in the data based on weapons in my inventory. However, there are still some weapons I have not found, and to complete the sheet I’m looking for screenshots of weapon data for the following:

Tier 1 Small X-Pulse Laser
Tier 1 Medium X-Pulse Laser
Tier 2 Large X-Pulse Laser
Tier 1 MRM 20
Tier 2 MRM 20
Tier 1 MRM 30
Tier 2 MRM 30
Tier 5 MRM 30
Tier 1 MRM 40

In exchange, if there is interest, I can look into uploading the spreadsheet for everyone else to peruse.

thanks in advance

General Game Questions/Help Question for y’all with more experience

I’m 2000 days into my first playthrough (35 hours or so) and only now realized that by smurfing in low-rep zones, my standing is pretty shot with everyone. Should I just restart with some mods, or is a vanilla playthrough worth completing before I dive into YAML?

So cathartic to see these assholes actually hovering around and fighting FOR ME FFS once a game or two.

Also, fwiw the AC 10 engage range doesn't work for these, they need at least 600 meter engagement range to avoid being insta-killed. Man, I WISH I could spawn that AC/2 variant .. dakka dakka

Is there a mod that does this?

Request The IS LB10X BF is a spiritually-Solaris weapon that got me thinking...

The IS LB10X BF variant, specifically, is a special weapon. Has anyone noticed that *not even the Clans have an equivalent*?

That's right, if you want a burst-fire mech shotgun, you have to go to the *Spheroids*. One would think it's another experimental weapon tested on Solaris, similar to burst-fire rifles and the PPC-X.

But it got me thinking.

PGI has a chance to create several new weapons by mixing and matching existing coding, mechanics, and assets.

With ease of implementation in mind, I came up with a few examples of compelling, lore-friendly experimental weapons PGI could introduce in the future:

Ballistic:

-AC-10 and AC-20 INF: Autocannons with shells large enough to carry inferno gel. Trades slight damage with heat buildup.

-HE Gauss: A gauss rifle that fires explosive shells for extremely high damage but uses explosive ammo bins.

Energy:

-PPC BF: A PPC that fires a rapid burst of ion bolts. Causes more direct damage, but with less sensor disruption.

-C-Chemical Lasers: Clan-spec chemical lasers that trade range and heat generation for damage. Consumes ammo.

-Capacitor Battery PPC: A PPC that relies on batteries rather than the mech's reactor and cooling system. Higher damage, but trades heat generation for ammo consumption.

-B Laser-SB: A binary laser that lessens heat generation with a shortened burn time.

Missile:

-Inferno LRM: Long-range missiles that trade damage for heat buildup.

-NARC ECM: A NARC beacon modified to distort enemy sensors on attachment. Target and surrounding targets within [insert radius] receive an accuracy penalty as long as the beacon is active.

-NARC INF: A NARC beacon with electronics replaced by a large inferno gel payload. Can quickly overheat even Clan omnimechs if used in enough quantities.

Artillery Missile:

-Cluster Arrow IV: An artillery missile that splits into a shower of 20 cluster munitions within [insert range].

Using existing mechanics and combining attributes, what whacky weapons and equipment could you all cook up?

Edit: It came to my attention that PPC capacitors exist in the lore but are different than what I was describing. I was essentially describing a "chem"-PPC that uses batteries for ammo.

4x rapid fire AC2s. Almost 100dps, with great accuracy if you can ignore the recoil. And enough ammo to hold the trigger down for a whole match.

It won't let me add the load out images for some reason.

Discussion No mercy mechs.

Which mechs do you target over others of each weight class?

Light: jenner, wolfhound

Jenner is squishy and can still put up some hurt. Wolfhound is a beast. And clan lights are scary. Spider and javelin just dont have enough fire power for me to care. Firestarter or commando are a close second because they actually can have some teeth...

Med: hunchback, Centurion, kintaro. Trebuchet

Hunchback because of the GIANT chip on its shoulder. Centurion because I know its armament is lacking a bit. kintaro because I dont like eating face full of missles for breakfast.

Heavy: Orion, quick draw, grasshopper, rifleman, catapult, Jagermech, archer cataphract

The quickdraw, grasshopper and fire support mechs are all relatively easy to take down and offer less resistance than some.of the other mechs of similar weight class. Plus taking out a catapult from point blank range is really funny. The Ai doesn't quite know what to do.

The cataphract is fun to try and headshot.

Assault: battlemaster, victor, warhammer, everything else usually takes some dedicated fire to bring down. I admittedly really like the battlemaster., but it is definitely squishier than an atlas.

What mechs do you prioritize? Why?

Spoilers The Romantic Tension in Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries is Well Scripted

I really enjoy the way the subtle tension builds through the campaign between Ryana and Mason.

It starts off with that slow burn... you have to pay close attention to the cut scenes to even notice it. The way Ryana glances sideways at Mason as she's giving mission briefings with that sly little smile of hers. The way Mason stands a little taller as he enters the command room, running his eyes appreciatively up and down before he assumes his commanding pose in front of the holomap.

Mid-game, we start to get hints what's going on between them in the barracks, "off camera". Ryana playfully instructs her superior - a veteran of the battlefield, and her commanding officer no less - to "follow orders!" It's clear she's struggling, though not quite able, to suppress her inner dominatrix in these tense pre-mission moments.

In the Chaos Reign DLC, I'm also enjoying the story arc of the love-at-first-sight/raw-but-tender romantic entanglement between Fahad and Speers.

Discussion Testing AI LRM Behaviours

Since it seems to come up a bit, I've been fiddling about testing some AI behaviours with LRMs both alone and in combination with other weapons. For disclosure I run YAML so this may affect some of the tests because of the presence of inherent melee slots which may not be present in vanilla on some mechs.

Headline learnings:

  1. The vanilla AI is bad at creating range. If a target gets under the range of its LRMs it is tragically bad at dealing with that situation. TTRulezAI is better here because it is more mobile and understands the concept of sideways. It only attempts to achieve the minimum range at which LRMs will fire.
  2. The AI does not close to use short range weapons if the mech role tells it not to either in vanilla or TTrulez. It also does not try to seek line of sight for them if they are in range but out of LOS. You are safe giving your mechs some close in weapons to defend themselves, it will not cause them to seek close ranges.
  3. Once a target enters maximum range the AI will close to optimum range.
  4. The AI needs way more cooling than you. This is why it seems to fire infrequently, it is very conservative with heating.
  5. If you are using TTRulez AI set the AI to Free Formation. It seems to perform better when it is allowed to move further out. On at least one occasion it did not try to fire at the long range target because it wanted to be closer to me on a cliff it couldn't reach.

For consistency I ran the same mission repeatedly, a simple assassination that spawned two mechs at the target, a Phoenix Hawk 1P and an Urbie with a shotgun (The Periphery's strongest son) who got to start quite close, and a Blackjack that could be engaged at about 1km.

I drove my Panther and didn't take part in the fight, just walked up to spot the target then sat there with my null signature system turned on watching the AI. I gave no instructions.

The AI pilot had 10/10 missile and heat management and about 6/10 laser and 8/10 piloting skill.

Vanilla AI:

Test 1. AI Longbow, 2x LRM20-ARTIV

In this test the AI stood its ground and fired the LRMs at the target until it got inside minimum range and then just kind of shuffled backwards and forwards as it got shot at, even when it was locked onto the slower Urbanmech it couldn't find a way to make range, possibly because it got backed into a corner and never tried to move sideways..

Test 2. AI Longbow, 2x LRM20-ARTIV, 2x SRM6, 2x Medium Laser.

In this test the AI stood its ground and fired the LRMs at the target until it got into range to use the other weapons, then it used them. It did not advance to use its other weapons before the target entered range, but either did not try or was not able to increase distance when they closed..

Test 3: AI Archer, 2x LRM20-ST, Fists.

As with the Longbow, the AI stood and fired LRMs until it was engaged under minimum range then it became sad and shuffled around.

Test 4: AI Archer, 2x LRM 20-ST, 4x Medium Laser, Fists.

Once again the AI behaved as it did in the Longbow test. It stood and fired LRMs until engaged under their range and used its lasers when available but did not advance to use them. It threw punches if the enemy happened to be in melee range but didn't try to close to use them.

TTRulezAI v3 beta 0.7: Missile Boat, Engage at Will, Free Formation (Maximum allowed distance from player)

Test 1: Longbow, 2x LRM20-ARTIV.

Like the vanilla AI, this AI stood and fired LRMs, when the AI got close it moved laterally a lot and tried to open the engagement range so it could use the LRMs. It wasn't able to because of the faster opponent but did so when I legged the Phoenix Hawk.

Test 2: AI Longbow, 2x LRM20-ARTIV, 2x SRM6, 2x Medium Laser.

Once again, like vanilla AI the Longbow stood and fired LRMs and did not advance to use other weapons but was persistent with using them when they were in range. Once again it does try to keep its LRMs at minimum range.

Test 3: AI Archer, 2x LRM20-ST, Fists.

This time the AI was really obviously attempting to open distance in the first fight it was just getting chased around by superior speed, and when I legged the Phoenix Hawk to let it do so it managed it. It only went to minimum distance though.

Test 4: AI Archer, 2x LRM 20-ST, 4x Medium Laser, Fists.

As before, the AI consistently tried to achieve minimum distance to use the LRMs, it just threw laser fire in as well. When its LRMs were able to fire it was somewhat inconsistent actually firing them.

I suspect that was the AI being conservative with its heat profile, so I reset its mech with a much higher cooling to heat generation ratio and it was much more aggressive with all weapons.

Bonus Test 5: AI Archer, 2x LRM-ST, 4x Medium Laser, Fists. TTrulezAI Brawler profile.

This AI did charge in to use its lasers in preference to standing back and firing LRMs and did not attempt to open range. It only used the LRMs opportunistically.

Bonus Test 6: AI Highlander, 2x PPC, 1x LRM 15-ST, 1x SRM6, 2x Medium Laser. TTRulezAI Fire Support profile.

Consistently used LRMs and PPCs only when the enemy was outside of the range of other weapons, closed distance when the AI entered maximum range of the medium lasers.

Bonus test 7: AI Highlander, 2x PPC, 1x LRM 15-ST, 1x SRM6, 2x Medium Laser. Vanilla AI.

As with TTRulez the AI was happy to use its standoff weapons when the enemy presented at long range and did not attempt to close, but it was much worse at managing the first close-in fight, never really trying to move laterally and not consistently keeping its guns in the fight.
