I am building a college football conference realignment map and I want fan input before I lock in one part of it.

I made a list of schools that might fit with North Texas. This list is only a starting point. I used my own limited knowledge and some guesswork to build it, so I do not expect it to be fully accurate. I want to hear from actual fans before I rely on it.

I am also comparing a few different clustering approaches and building a new one from scratch, so this kind of fan feedback would directly help my understanding and any algorithm weights I may end up using.

I am more interested in long-term fit based on rivalry history, fan culture, school identity, athletics, academics, and overall feel. Don't worry if the school you think is a good fit has no historic ties. If it feels like a school your fanbase admires and you could see them being a long-term fit, please include them.

How you can help 1. The best help: give your own weights and ignore mine 2. Remove a team that does not belong 3. Add a team I missed (please include the weight you would add them at) 4. Move a team up or down (please include how far up or down you would move them)

Weight scale - 5 = must-have conference fit - 4 = high-priority fit - 3 = strong fit - 2 = reasonable but not necessary fit - 1 = acceptable last resort fit if hard choices had to be made

My current list for North Texas

Weight 5 - UTSA, SMU

Weight 4 - Rice, Texas State - Tulsa, Memphis - Tulane, UAB - Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston - Houston, Texas State

Weight 3 - Texas Tech, TCU - Baylor, Oklahoma State - Arkansas State, Southern Miss - Louisiana, UTEP

Weight 2 - South Florida, FAU - Charlotte, East Carolina - Navy, UL Monroe - Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky

Weight 1 - Army, New Mexico State

Small note: I am mainly looking for your fan perspective on which schools you would want around your program, not whether the final setup is practical or likely to happen in real life. If possible, go with your gut on fit more than logistics.

IMPORTANT: This is not a list of a new conference. The amount of schools weighted should be much higher than the actual end result conference. The core of your ideal conference should be weight 5. Weights 4 and 3 should be the remainder of your dream conference. Weight 2 should be good options if flexibility is required. Weight 1 is last resort better than nothing.

The amount of weighted schools has no impact on the final conference size.

This is really about full athletic conference fit, but I limited the school pool to FBS programs.

We just saw Indiana absolutely destroy Oregon 56-22 who did the same thing to Alabama. It’s getting to the point where people are now comparing this team to LSU 2019. And this is who we’re playing Week 1 btw, AT INDIANA. We’re already going to be a brand new team entering competition for the first time with basically all of our coaches and players leaving and this is who we’re making our debut with? I’m already picturing the score to be in the 60s-80s. At this point that’s just a scrimmage and our season really starts Week 2 against UNLV if we’re not severely banged up.

We capped our best season ever on Saturday with a win in the New Mexico Bowl, and the very next day 75% of this team is gone. It’s really unfortunate that this is the way it has to be. G5 programs are punished by being good meanwhile terrible P4 programs like OSU are rewarded. Of the 56 players in the bowl depth chart, we only have 15 players returning. The NIL and Transfer Portal has ruined this sport and loyalty no longer exists. Sometimes I wonder if we’ll even be able to field a 56 man roster next season. We might as well be a brand new program entering competition for the first time with a new coach and completely different team. If OSU makes the playoffs next year and we go 2-10 or 3-9 I really hope the players think about that. God forbid a G5 school ever becomes successful because when they do they’re gone the very next year. At this point we along with many other G5 schools would probably be more successful in the FCS. We’re never going to be Georgia, Alabama, or Ohio State because of stuff like this. Not to mention we open the 2026 season AT INDIANA who looks like they might win it all right now. Brace yourselves for a 63-0 shutout for this one.

49-47, could’ve been cleaner but we come out with the win! Glad Mestemaker, Hawkins, Young and crew end the season on a high note, our first bowl win since 2013! Our best players will most certainly leave in the transfer portal, but still grateful and glad I could witness our schools best ever football season. GO MEAN GREEN 🦅 🦅#STONECOLDCELLY!!!

we will always have the fall of 2025 to remember fondly, no amount of P4 poaching or calls/plays that didnt go our way could take that away.

if the previous high water mark was fall 2018, this is head and shoulders above that.

We come in at 24 ahead of James Madison at 25. That means if we win, we’re in. No stressing over who the committee will put in between us and JMU.

Turns out we’re not the only one who’s losing our head coach to a P4 school. All the other American playoff contenders are losing their head coaches to SEC programs. Tulane is losing Jon Sumrall to Florida, USF is losing Alex Golesh to Auburn and Memphis is losing Ryan Silverfield to Arkansas. Furthermore, news just dropped that JMU’s Bob Chesney is headed to UCLA. So the real question is what will the G5 landscape look like in 2026? Will there be even more parity than last year or could we see teams like Army and UTSA rise to their former glory? And i know what will ultimately determine how good we will be is the talent that we can retain or pick up but i know that coaching staff play a big role in a team’s success.

Since I can’t make it out to NOLA, I was hoping to find places in Fort Worth for a watch party. The only one Ive seen so far is in Frisco which is not going to happen on a Friday night. Any suggestions for bars or Alumni meet ups?
