Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on getting a modern mainline Linux stack running on the Nokia Lumia 1520, a 2013 Windows Phone built around Qualcomm’s MSM8974 platform.

This isnt an Android ROM port or a Windows Phone mod. The goal is to bring the device up on a current Linux kernel with postmarketOS and gradually implement the missing hardware support needed to make it usable.

So far, I’ve managed to:

• Build a custom bootloader and device-tree configuration
• Create a postmarketOS device package for the RM-940
• Boot a Linux 6.16-based kernel
• Bring up USB networking
• Establish a stable SSH connection to the phone
• Run an Alpine Linux/postmarketOS userspace
• Begin implementing device-specific power and hardware support

The SSH milestone was a major step because I can now properly inspect the running system, collect logs, test kernel changes, and continue development without relying only on framebuffer output or early boot behavior.

The current challenge is power management.

Full system suspend currently powers down the USB high-speed PHY, but the PHY fails to initialize again when the device resumes. Because USB networking is also the main development connection, this effectively cuts off access to the phone.

For now, I’m treating display blanking and panel power management as a separate, more achievable target while I continue investigating the suspend/resume issue.

There is still a lot missing, and I would not call it a usable daily-driver port yet, but the Lumia 1520 is now booting a modern Linux kernel and running a real userspace more than a decade after the hardware was released. I just wanted to share the work....

Some developers have alternative from GIMP to create their own version, PhotoGIMP, which has the same interface and shortcuts as Photoshop Now photographers and editors can edit on Linux and save time 🥳

I've been using PCs since 1998. Around 2000 I started with PCLOS. Because they had the friendliest user forum for noobs. Also back then PCLOS was like the Mint of today. The easiest distro for noobs. I had to buy an external modem to get dialup. And TexStar the creator personally held my hand to get the modem configured.

Back then laptops were outrageously expensive. So I built a desktop. I had removable drawers for the hard drives that I used to clone back & forth. Because I would destroy my W98se installs. I created a PCLOS live CD. I removed both HDD. Booted to PCLOS. I started laughing like crazy because I was using my PC without a HDD! I was gobstruck.

Fast forward to around the present day. I can't remember what year I started using Linux full-time. I'm old & my memory is terrible. I think I lasted around a year then went back to Windows. And the reason I went backwards was so stupid it's shocking. It was because a fast Windows surfing session for me was 1hr-1.5hrs. Where as in Linux it was only 20minutes. I went back to Windows because Linux was too EASY!

Anyways W7 was rock solid for me. After a Vista nightmare I went back to W7. Stayed on W7 till 2023. Then jumped to W11. Since W7 I think I borked 2-3 W installs. That was until W11 25H2. What a POS.

In the last 5 weeks three W11 installs were borked. I blame M$ & 25H2. I know when a bork is my fault. These were not.

I got a new used ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 4 16GB 6th Gen i7 6600 2016. Installed Mint Cinnamon for a few days. It was clunky & froze a couple on the ancient hardware.

I then installed Debian LXQT 13.6. Wow Debian is much easier than 15 years ago. LOL. Everything is snappy except Zoom. My hardware won't run the Zoom app. But Zoom worked ok in a browser. I disabled a few unnecessary auto start services now Zoom & everything runs well.

I have one other primary laptop to install Linux.

I hope I don't go backwards to Windows.

Thanks everyone who came yesterday and tried my little app. I released the app on AUR yesterday and is available on github here (https://github.com/knightinfected/PipeWireController). The current version is 0.1.2 and some of the screenshots are from 0.2
I received a ton of negative comments and messages regarding my use of AI. I spent a lot of my time on this and well over did this project abit and english being my secondary language didnt help.
I have gone down this audio rabbit hole in linux and anyone else who has also done it knows how annoying it gets especially with reading the wikis to actual application.

Anyhow I hope it helps someone out there and I will be updating it in the next day or later today as I am currently testing. Version 0.1.2 is available as of right now on GitHub though.

There are too many features to list them out so I added lot of screenshots to help understand.

Those who use davinci resolve on linux definitely know about the issues with AAC and H.264 codecs, drag 'n' drops, and some other bugs. I wonder why nobody has done this before and used bash to manually convert the media, considering how many people were affected by this problem

It works as wrapper that currently:

• Automatically converts unsupported codecs on import
• Fixes broken drag 'n' drops
• Fixes pasting from clipboard

Now the linux experience with resolve should be nearly the same as on windows/mac. Enjoy!

Konrad Dybcio of Qualcomm has posted an initial patch series to the Linux kernel mailing list aimed at bringing mainline support to the ASUS Zenbook A16 (UX3607OA) powered by the 18-core Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme platform.

• Connectivity: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (QCC2072)
• Power & Indicators: Charging, Type-C/Type-A ports, and privacy LEDs

If you have tried it, I would like to know your opinion. Did you try it locally or use it with external LLMs? How did it withstand your machine state?? Especially on low-powered and low specs like most of us have. (Oh, I am assuming)

Like many development communities, the kernel community has been struggling to determine how large language models (LLMs) will be used in its development process. The news has been dominated recently by a strongly worded missive from Linus Torvalds on the subject, but the discussion has been rather more wide-ranging and nuanced than that. Topics that have been considered recently include the LLM attribution requirement, code-review tools, dependence on proprietary tools, and whether there is a place for concerns about the ethics of LLMs.

It is as reliable as QuickShare can be ( well yk how it is. I can't really help it. I don't control the protocol ) and almost as fast as android to android sharing ( there are issues with 5ghz hotspots with some intel wifi cards so I've disabled it for now ).

It supports sharing with

• BLE
• Bluetooth classic
• Wifi Hotspot
• WIFI LAN
• webrtc ( coming soon ? )

NOTE: If you're using this, interference with bluetooth devices while turned on is a known bug. I'm working on a fix. So launch the app only when you plan to send/recv

NOTE NOTE : THERE BE BUGS. This is still beta software. Some weirdness regarding wifi-hotspot is there, and also double broadcasting. Please feel free to open an issue. I'll be happy to help :)
