What happens during the introductory lesson?

Before the lesson, you send me a few of your games.

We will analyze them together to identify your strengths, weaknesses, recurring mistakes, and important patterns in your play.

Afterwards, we will discuss your goals and create a personalized training plan based on your level and needs.

The coaching is suitable for complete beginners, improving club players, and tournament players.

About me

My current FIDE rating is 2056, with a peak rating of 2132.

I have been actively competing in chess for more than five years and working as a coach for almost three years.

During this time, I have led group training sessions and worked with a wide range of students, including children and adults, complete beginners, and experienced tournament players.

Since I started as a complete beginner only five years ago, I still remember the mistakes I made and the training methods that helped me improve.

This helps me explain chess concepts in a practical and relatable way.

I qualified for the Nordic Youth Championship, where I finished 8th.

One of my most notable results is a classical victory against the Swedish Champion, who was rated 2455 at the time, in April 2024.

I teach in both English and Swedish.

a while back i posted a free tool here that turns a chess image on your screen into a playable lichess board. some of you tried it and left feedback, and the most common ask was "can it skip the screenshot step and just read whatever board is already on my screen." this is that.

quick background if you missed the first post: fenshot is an open source library i wrote that looks at a picture of a chess board, from lichess, chesscom, a random screenshot, even a diagram in a chess book, and reconstructs the exact position. the reading is done by a small neural net i trained from scratch. i went that way because the old open source reader confuses pieces on a lot of themes and can't read book diagrams at all. mine was trained on positions rendered across ~72 piece sets and ~55 board themes, including the lichess sets, plus book diagram styles, so it reads things the legacy one chokes on.

the extension: click the icon, it reads the board on the current page, and one more click opens that exact position on lichess analysis so you can keep going from there. the use case i actually built it for: someone posts a puzzle as an image, and instead of eyeballing it you're on a real board two clicks later, moving pieces.

things worth knowing:

- free, open source (MIT), no account. everything runs locally in your browser, nothing is uploaded anywhere.

- honest by design: every read carries per-square confidence. if it can't find a board, or isn't sure about the read, it tells you instead of handing you a wrong position.

- if the one-click read misses, you can drag a box around the board, upload an image, or just paste a screenshot with ctrl+v.

DISCLAIMER:
I'm posting this to spark conversation on the topic and I'm sorry in case it's already been discussed, I am not aware. I am by no means a master of the game and I can for sure understand that many people don't take online chess as seriously as OTB I just noticed some things lately as I've been trying to play better online and study more chess in general.

CONTEXT:
So I've been playing mostly rapid on the site hovering around 2100 rating. In the past year I've been playing more OTB classical which I enjoy the most and I recently achieved a FIDE rating of 1692. This month I haven't been able to fit an OTB tournament on my schedule but I do have one coming up on September so I decided I'll play some short classical games on lichess to get some practice games.

THE ISSUE:
I am honestly amazed at how the rating is inflated on classical specifically. I just won against a player rated 2215 where they blundered a pawn on move 13 and then they spent just 1 minute and they* blundered a tactical sequence that in my opinion is quite easy to see, while they still had over 30 minutes on the clock (we're playing 45+30). I myself didn't even calculate all of the variations but still they allowed a move that creates too many threats and I would have expected them to spend some time even if they still blundered this.

Now I don't want to be rude and maybe my opponent was distracted I just wanted to point out this instance because the past days I've been winning all the time because my opponents rated 2100-2200 keep straight up blundering in the middlegame whereas I noticed players around 2000 put up more of a balanced fight.

QUESTIONS:
! In your experience, how many of the lichess classical pool consists of active or formerly active OTB players? What is the expected range for the gap between someone's FIDE rating and classical?
! If a mid club player like myself can achieve 2200+ and the highest rated active player sits at 2650 where do the titled players sit at? The rating up top seems to be incredibly condensed compared to the rest of the scale. Am I missing something?

I finally managed to release my free OTB tracker app ChessGaze to Android as well.

In the video I am playing the white pieces and my OTB tracker which is looking the board fixed by a tripod, playing the black pieces as 700 Elo stockfish (I have different levels as well which can be selected for the bots menu).

Each time I make a move with white pieces, my app makes a counter move with black pieces highlighted with yellow and green, it also announces the move if you have the audio opened you will hear it. I just obey its orders and move the pieces when it is black's turn

App works quite fast so I did not edit the video at all. I am the bottle neck thinking my moves and following app direction not the app.

Reported a player for abusive (racist) messaging after a game around a week ago but it looks like the player's account is active and they are playing. How seriously does lichess take their reports? Why isn't this an instant ban?

It's the third time now that I've lost about 100 elo in rapid, I keep going between 1330 and 1430.

Is it just me? Am I just that inconsistent? Or is there something like a cycle where elo just naturally fluctuates. I checked a couple of opponents accounts and most of them also seem to be on a downward trend.

Seriously I feel like there's something wrong with my brain.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I created a study on my desktop and want to add to it in the mobile app. I've done a fair bit of looking and can't seem too find it. Any help appreciated!

I posted my free opening trainer, OpenBook (openbookchess.com) here last month and got some good feedback. I have implemented most of the suggestions as well as some other features since last time. Here are the main ones: (1) Review your recent Lichess or chess.com games and see where you played the wrong move or your opponent responded in a way you weren't expecting. Repeat issues rise to the top of the list, and this feature is fully client-side (it doesn't go through the OpenBook server). (2) There was already a "find gaps" feature looking at popular moves you don't have responses to, but now there's a new "find weak moves" feature that has Stockfish check all the moves in your repertoire and flag the questionable ones. (3) There's now a guest mode. The only login the site ever had was via Lichess, without collecting name or email (and I recommend you still do it that way), but if you'd prefer, you can skip that and play in guest mode, and your repertoire is saved in your browser. This is a good way to try out the app, but obviously it's more fragile than saving your repertoire to the database. If you decide to do that, just log in via Lichess and OpenBook will offer to merge your guest repertoire into your account.

Anyhow, I appreciated the feedback last time, and I think it resulted in some big improvements, so please let me know your thoughts if you have a chance to try it out.

Im a beginner and I just started yesterday but I'm stuck on this one puzzle (I've completed the others) but how am I meant to do this in under 9 moves to get 3 stars? I've already tried capturing the rook with the knight and it doesn't decrease the amount of moves I make. Can someone please help me? Thank you :)

edit: there seems to be some confusion so, the goal is the capture Black's pieces without getting my own captured and I moved the bishop to f4 to protect my pawns, if I didn't the pawns would be captured and I would fail the puzzle

Thank you so much to all beta testers who submitted reports this weekend! Here are a list of found bugs and fix's, diagnosed and fixed automatically directly from the regression corpus. One tester found a particularly nasty calibration bug, which silently flipped the grid along the a-h files, causing many confusing mis-commits. This was invisible to humans, but the system correctly caught and corrected itself. Keep sending in those reports! Accuracy can only ever go up as the data set increases

But on chesscom my maximum rating was 1950 ( before I switched to lichess due to lag and constant pressure to buy premium subscription). Is that because i got better / better ping or is it because lichess has inflated ratings?
