Because of the city expansion does this mean Leicester can finally get a monorail? Personally I am up for spending the annual saving on building one

I know Middletons wasn’t always the best place, but…

Like the title says I know middletons wasn’t always the best place, food could sometimes be a little off. But they cooked their steaks without butter, and as someone who has digestive issue with dairy, it was a safer place without being a nuisance. Can anyone recommend a steak place that doesn’t coat their steaks with butter or it’s easy to ask them not too? Bonus if they have steak sauces that don’t contain dairy

Magic the Gathering?

Moving up very soon, just wondering where the best places are to play Magic? I’m primarily a commander player.
Basically using it as an excuse to meet people since I’ll only know one person in the city!

Recommendations for a removal company for a small move in Leicester

Hi everyone,

Can anyone recommend a good removal company for a small local move within Leicester?

I'm moving from a furnished 1 bedroom flat to another flat a short distance away. I don't drive, so I'm looking for a removal company rather than hiring a van myself. The move will mainly be around 20–25 boxes and a few pieces of furniture.

I'd really appreciate any recommendations or companies you've had a good experience with.

Thanks!

Planning to study MSc Computer Science in Leicester. Is it worth it?

Hi everyone,

I'm an international student and I'm planning to pursue an MSc in Computer Science in Leicester (University of Leicester).

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who study, work, or live in Leicester.

A few questions I have:

  • Is Leicester a good city for international students?
  • How is the quality of the Computer Science program?
  • Are there enough part-time jobs for students?
  • After graduation, how are the job opportunities in software engineering or IT?
  • If I work hard, build good projects, and prepare well for interviews, is it realistic to find a graduate software developer job in the UK?
  • Would you recommend studying in Leicester, or would you suggest another city or university?

I'm trying to make an informed decision before investing a lot of money, so I'd really appreciate any honest advice or personal experiences.

Anyone know of affordable therapy options for a non-driver?

I can't afford it, but it's probably beyond a point where I can't afford not to, so asking for options.

PhD in Sociology distance part-time

Hello,

I am considering applying for a PhD in Sociology at the University of Leicester, part-time and distance learning. Anyone enrolled in the program or a similar part-time and distance learning degree? Is there enough guidance and support provided? Can you work or is it too demanding?

Why is the city expansion so controversial??

I dont really know much about local politics so forgive me for my ignorance but i dont understand why so many people are outraged by the city expansion.

I was suprised to see that places like wigston and oadby arent already a part of the city. Wouldnt expanding the city mean a more bigger council meaning better public services? Also, wouldnt it also put more pressure on westminister to give grants as the city is bigger.

Its not like peoples houses are going to change location. They will remain in the same place with the same people living in them so why are so many opposed?

Automatic Driving Lessons for a US expat

Hi all, I'm looking for recommendations for an automatic driving instructor. My test is next month and I've taken a few lessons already from 2 different instructors. While they were both very nice, they were both older gentlemen with strong foreign accents who spoke very quickly and quietly and I really struggled to understand what they were trying to tell me while also concentrating on the road.

I've searched on this thread and found a few good leads but they ended up being instructors for manual cars. If anyone has personal experience with an instructor for an automatic car that is available in the next month please drop them for me! Thank you!

Edited to add- I’m located in LE3 area

Billys fish bar has the best chips

After a cancelled night out yesterday we stopped at Billy's fish bar on the way home. I've always liked their chips but these were superb . Best I've ever tasted. Fat, crispy and tasted AMAZING. One portion fed myself and husband and two hungry dogs. And we got home in time to watch a fascinating football match with France . Result

EV Charging point near National Space Centre

Hi folks,

Just seeking confirmation from locals please. We're planning to stop by the National Space Centre as part of our road trip and I'm looking for EV Charging points.

  • National Space Centre doesn't have anything on their website, so no onsite chargers.
  • ASDA Leicester Abbey Lane
    • Store website says they got EV Chargers
    • They've confirmed this via phone
    • Google maps image from 2023 shows they do
  • However, zapmap or other EV charging apps do not show any chargers available.

Could anyone local please help confirm availability of public charging points walking distance to National Space Centre?

I was hoping I can plug the car in ASDA and charge while we spend time at NSC, near enough for me to walk back to unplug within 3hours if needed.

Thanks!

I am currently trying to choose between the two and I understand they have very different teaching styles but I am really unsure which school to pick as I think I am a hardworking person either way so I just wanted to see if anyone has any opinions to leave to help me out (I'm doing bio chem math a levels and I'm open to answering any questions)
