Had some fun with the Here, Hear series

Decided to compile them all into one neat album, I’m not super satisfied with the name but if I find something better I’ll change it. Something about this series scratches my brain, so making this let me express it a little!

Delete if not allowed 😂 But like they are, right? Or is it because All Our Bruised Bodies and the Whole Heart Shrinks is stuck in my head?

this is far from perfect, but someone said they wanted IRL content that wasn't SSH/King Park/Andria, so here's a clip of me trying 'Said the King to the River' at emo karaoke tonight 🖤

Has anyone else read "Still Life with Woodpecker" because of this band?

I did. I actually became quite engrossed in Tom Robbins's work. There's a few books of his I probably won't ever read, cough Fierce Invalids from Hot Climates cough, but I have read most of his books now!

If you're really cool you've seen the "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" movie. It's...interesting lol

I think one of my favorite Tom Robbins quotes comes at the very end of SLWW, "It's never too late to have a happy childhood."

Am i the only one who's just some teen without much life experience and doing pretty (kinda) alright but still a big fan of their music ?

I feel like most people here are people who've went through a lot, trauma and all, who relate to some of their songs, etc

In my case im just someone who hasn't lived much, never lost someone, never had a partner, i have my own struggles cause being a teen ain't as easy and chill as many people make it seem to be, but overall im pretty fine.

However despite not really relating to their songs' lyrics, i love the emotions. Ive always been more attracted towards music full of emotions.

Ive spend hours listening to their music, and ive cried myself to sleep listening to their music once lol

Emotions have always been what mattered the most in music to me. Im not a fan of one music genre in particular. I listen to everything as long as it makes me feel something. It tends to be alt mysic, but can be anything.

And well, emotions can come from a lot of different things. The lyrics, the voice, the performance, the sound, things, memories, you associate the song with, etc

Gift Ideas

I want to get/make my die hard La Dispute friend a gift, but I don’t really know the band well, any ideas/recommendations? (I’m fairly crafty/artsy)

Collage poster I made for No One Was Driving The Car

The image is a scan of an analog collage I made when NOWDTC first came out. Since then it's been a favorite of mine and definitely the album that I connected with the most. I'm super happy I was able to create a poster that honors this album specifically.

How much of their music is derived from lived experience?

I don’t know much at all about the band’s personal life but so much of their music is entrenched in experiences of deep, deep trauma. We all have our own reasons for listening and different ways we relate to the music, but I’m curious how they actually relate to it. Just to quickly name some specific songs that come to mind: Kings park- revolves around witnessing a murder and coming to terms with it Steve- sounds like a very personal story about a friend who “went the wrong way” in life New Storms- coping with the knowledge that your partner had been abused in a previous relationship Edward Benz- caring for a violent schizophrenic son (or at least knowing someone who did)

Obviously not everything they sing could or needs to be personally experienced, but have they spoken on which songs are the most personal to them?

Outbreak

I'm surprised I haven't seen much on here about their show at Outbreak in Manchester last Sunday, so I thought I'd share my thoughts.

This was the fourth time I've seen La Dispute and it was by far their best performance yet. The energy that Jordan and all of the band brought was incredible.

Credit for the energy also has to be given to the audience and Outbreak for facilitating that. The last time I saw them was for the 10 year Wildlife anniversary and the crowd was absolutely abysmally boring, so it was so exhilarating to go to a no barrier show and experience stage invasions and diving.

Everything about it was perfect, from the set list to the vocals. I'm so happy for La Dispute that they've had an increase in popularity recently and I'm happy for the new fans who've discovered such an amazing band. I hope future shows will be something like this one and I can't wait for the official Outbreak footage to come out so I can relive it.

Was anyone else there and if so what was your experience?

I have listened to Landlord Calls the Sheriff In about 60 times and I have still yet to become tired of it

Holy shit. I am insane about Landlord.

I have nothing substantial to say. I just really love Landlord. I hope La Dispute knows I am Landlords, maybe, like top 24 fans.

That is all thank you for your time.

If they don’t play it in sydney I WILL sook.

Leeds show was incredible

Anyone else catch them play Brudenell last night?

It was my fifth time seeing them and I think maybe the best yet. The genuine love the band have for that venue was so cool to see and the energy was amazing. Jordan has never sounded better IMO, the rest of the band were impeccable (even with failing equipment), the setlist was full of gems (ending w ECF and then small hands - damn!).

Felt super privileged to see them play the first few tracks off of NOWDTC at Brude last year, and then see them wrap up their Europe dates here again. A real full circle moment, as Jordan said.

Also shout out the supports, both killed it. And a great crowd too. I saw them in Manchester recently and it bugged me a bit that the crowd talked over some of the quieter bits of the set, but last night you could've heard a pin drop when Jordan and Chad did NOWDTC. Proper chills moment.

The La Dispute songs that are much softer, best heard with Headphones.

For me it’s “In Northern Michigan”

So blessed to get this amazing flash piece that was drawn up by my bud Jessie, @Korndogspritzer on instagram. We talked about our mutual love of spoken word style music and I thought this would be an appropriate lyric to add since I’ve been wanted a La Dispute tat for so long. Love the way it came out <3
(Also didn’t realize till after how many wings I have on my back haha)
