I think maybe he is the runt of the litter. I have no idea really. He just turned 1 , he is about 55 pounds. Eats 3 times a day still. Still intact. He's very lovable and very playful. He's just a little guy. I wonder if he will grow more ? Any opinions?
So got a 8 month old lab pup. He’s been great so far, learning so much, trying really hard to please us etc. 2.5 or so weeks ago he got a pretty sore paw – looked like a yeast or infection in the paws. Was limping, didn’t seem to have much energy etc. Except when we got to the vet – he was bouncing off the walls excited just to be there. Had to wrestle him down so the vet could even look at it etc.
So got some cream and soap etc, and a week later his paw seemed back to normal. Except his energy really hasn’t come back. He’s happy to go for a walk etc, but he just lays around the house. This morning I got up and he was sleeping on the stairs landing he half sat up and watched me walk by. Normally I’d expect him to jump up excited with the wiggles just to see me for the first time in the morning. He’s laying in other rooms during the day half the time where normally he’d follow me around. Eats meals, but slowly instead of the normal lab pup wolfing it down. Drinking is fine. Doesn’t really want ice like he normally did though. Stool seems fine – bit soft maybe at times, but that’s not unusual for him either.
Not sure if I should bring him to the vet again? I’m sure he’d be crazy there again and I wouldn’t know what to tell them lol. Just give him some time? Growth spurt? Just calming down early? Any suggestions? Would hate it if he wasn’t feeling well!
Question for anyone. What kind of toy holds up the best? My dog destroys toys within a week. He currently doesn’t have any toys and as you can imagine a 7mo old pup with no toys is rough lol. What can you suggest for me?
My black lab (as expected) loves swimming. It is her passion in life. We go to our family beach house a couple times a year and I have to bring a 100ft rope because she will get into the ocean and just… keep going. Going to the beach in a couple weeks and am starting to get a little worried about our usual routine. It dawned on me that she looks a lot like a seal out there… and I’m worried about her getting caught up in fishing lines, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas or creative solutions for not wanting your dog to go too far out? I could keep her in heel or on a shorter leash but she really does love to swim and I want her to have fun. She will take her sweet time bringing back a dummy when she’s retrieving in water because she wants to keep swimming, but I think that might be my best option.
Wanted to share photos of my big handsome. Last week he had 2 major surgeries - first abdominal explore, then open chest. He had some complications but is now recovering so well. I’m so proud of my strong boy!
I have had dogs my entire life and have also previously owned a lab but none of them have done this… demand barking, I think it is? Why does she do it? She doesn’t seem to be in any pain or distress. She also grumbles and makes various whiny noises for no discernible reason.
She’ll be 21 weeks this upcoming Sunday and the barking is new. Do I just have a vocal gal?
We do have a vet appointment this week. Our six month old black lab is eating like a weirdo. Doesn’t just descend on the food like a normal lab and hoover it all up in minutes. She sort of free feeds? Eats a little. Wanders off. Finishes the rest within the hour. We haven’t been taking it away because we want her to eat, obviously.
She’s growing at a good clip. Has good regular poops. But in the last two weeks she’s started this weirdness. She hasn’t always been the speediest eater but it used to be a 10-minute window.
Is this a growth thing? We’ve adopted older full labs in the past but haven’t had one this young before.
We have an in ground chlorine pool that Oakley, 4yo choc, swims in multiple times a day. It’s hot here with temps 95-105 for 4-5 months of year. He is constantly itchy with dandruff. I see now after researching rinsing and good leave in conditioner helps. Looking for recommendations of good natural products to use.
Side note: we already follow the No baths ever rule. Daily omega and vet recommended antihistamines when he has his allergy flare ups and Zymox for occasional ear infections.
I recently broke up with my partner that was helping me for a year. I work about 45 hours per week and I’m trying to come home for breaks but it is proving to be difficult. None of my neighbors talk to me and I’m not sure if I can afford a dog walker or trust them. What are all of the other single people doing? I have two cats to keep him company but I feel bad still that he has to wait for me.
