📌 Moderator Announcement Folks Coming for Help - Help Them

In the wake of the DEA announcements regarding federal scheduling of 7-HMG over certain limits, and mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15, and MGM-16 we expect to continue to see an influx of folks who looking for information for how to transition off these products as it gets closer to when those schedules may come into force.

We're trying whenever we notice it to apply the "㊗️ Transitioning to Kratom" flair on it as an extra reminder and would encourage posters to do the same (FYI 祝 broadly means "congratulations" or "well wishes" in typical contexts.)

If you are asking for help, saying you take 35mg (or whatever amount) isn't immediately helpful if you don't specify what it is you are taking as this may change what folks suggest. Also note that there can be significant variation in products and what your label says on these products may be inaccurate (over or under dosed, or contain other compounds).

Unfortunately we can't discuss brands, even if the purpose is to get better details about what it might require to transition off of it.

Some of these folks have never used kratom before, and need more than "just go back to doing what you are doing before 7-HMG."

It is not the place to antagonize them, criticize them for having chosen to use these products to begin with, criticism that their use may have been (statistically) extreme, or criticizing them for these products now pending scheduling.

⚠️ Note that there are some community allegations that some smoke shop products labeled as Cat's Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) contain MGM-15 or some of these other mitragynine derivatives or mitragynine adjacent research chemicals (some suggesting it is listed on the lab report in some cases). They may be marketed this way to try to avoid regulators or more sloppy QA. This might not get you any closer to stopping this use ahead of when these products may be pulled by stores or subject to law enforcement action.

If you are going to try Cat's Claw it would be advisable to do so using products purchased from a regular vitamin or botanical health store in large quantity bottles, not a smoke shop product in a blister pack with a few tablets or where it is labeled as a "proprietary blend."

In general, we've always allowed discussions on how (or if it is possible) to stop using any substance or making any other health change with kratom, even in cases where there isn't a lot of evidence suggesting that it might be a particularly good replacement or where there a lot less case reports of folks actively using it that way, except in the most extreme cases (Rule 11) that rarely come up.

If you have practical advice, such as suggesting what starting dose might assist them in transitioning to kratom either for sustained use or to eventually taper to zero, then that may be helpful to them.

We've always allowed discussions of other resources such as in-patient treatment, non-medication approaches, or prescribed medication-based approaches that may or may not include kratom, especially if there isn't any personal experience, reports, or medical rationale to suggest kratom might be a particularly good option or where the poster has made comments that suggests something self-directed, even if useful or an improvement over many worse options, might not be an ideal choice.

We've never allowed discussions of using research chemicals (beyond tapering down with what they already have prior to transition) or illicitly sourcing regulated (prescription or controlled) drugs for this or any other purpose (Rule 4).

Note that in some jurisdictions kratom has recently become illegal as well, such as Kansas and Tennessee. In some sales restrictions and legal uncertainties regarding sales have disrupted purchasers.

We've never allowed discussions of using kratom where it is illegal to do so (Rule 4), including ways to traffic it into those areas. Where people have talked about going out of state, we've taken the view that if it can be taken as "this person might be going out of the state to use it while traveling in legal places" then we can take it that way unless it is obvious this is not the case.

However, in some places it is legal to possess even if it is not legal to be sold, or regulators are claiming it is not legal to be sold for the courts to eventually adjudicate.

As of 2018, per Reddit we are not allowed to discuss specific vendors, vendors who may be taking more aggressive legal positions in ambiguous states, vendor lists, or vendors one simply may not like for one reason or another. If there is a product you believe is dangerously adulterated, contact the moderators, especially if you have evidence.

🛑 This is not the place to complain about the scheduling action (this thread), nor is it in posts for people asking for practical information to help transitioning. It isn't helpful for people looking for solutions in an increasingly short amount of time.

We've allowed this in posts about laws being considered by legislatures and cannot be avoided, and where it cannot be avoided, in discussions on pharmacology where it cannot be avoided, but is otherwise off-topic (Rule 12) and has been for over a year (as of March 2025).

URGENT NEw York

New York Residents:

Stop Blanket Kratom Ban in Oneida County

Dear advocate,

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. has announced a proposed local law that would solidify the county's public health order prohibiting all kratom products.

Crucially, this overly broad prohibition fails to distinguish between natural kratm leaf products and concentrated synthetic kratom derivatives.

That's why we need all advocates to contact Oneida County legislators and urge them to draft new language for commonsense kratm regulation that makes this critical distinction.

Advocates should encourage measures such as age restrictions, mandatory third-party testing, and labeling requirements for natural kratm leaf products — while maintaining an outright ban on concentrated synthetic kratom derivatives.

Advocates may mention that the New York State Legislature has already acted to address concentrated synthetic kratom derivatives and is continuing work on further regulation.

Specifically, New York has enacted an age gate; labeling requirements are coming into effect in November; and a concentrated synthetic kratom derivatives ban is awaiting the governor's signature.

Suffolk County is also pursuing targeted regulation of concentrated synthetic kratom derivatives after first considering a blanket ban.

Additionally, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recommended scheduling concentrated synthetic 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) but not natural kratom leaf.

Where possible, advocates should share with legislators their personal anecdotes and success stories related to using natural kratom leaf products. Legislators' contact information is below:

Something isn’t right about this Amanda Goodsell Kratom story…

I just had a google push notification news story pop up that stated “27 year old mother on life support after taking kratom for 1 week”. I read the article, then googled “Amanda Goodsell Kratom” and the results are wild. The same story is being published by literally 20+ local news websites. I’ll try to post pics in the post as a comment.

Lowering your dose

After 4-5 years of taking kratom daily my dose was up to 45 pills (000 size) I weighed them and they were 800mg each so like 36 grams. One dose per day.

I couldn’t keep going like this. I remember when I started Kratom. 1 pill is all I needed. Then. 5, 10,20 etc

I was able to get my dose controlled a little bit from 45 down to about 32 but still it’s too much. I take it for chronic pain and I was very worried if I took less I would get less pain relief

I went down to 25 capsules on Monday and I didn’t notice any difference vs 32

Today I went down to 20 and the same thing. Really no difference.

I’m going to keep going down as long as my pain relief is there and see how low I can go

So it’s just a PSA. If your dose is getting out of control don’t be scared like I was. Just force yourself lower. It will save you money and it really was not fun swallowing 45 pills . Or 32. 20 still isn’t fun I’m going to try to go lower. People always said less is more but I never believed them. I always thought more is more!

Kratom withdrawal from tea vs powder

So I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with kratom tea withdrawal vs powder?

Does the withdrawal kick in faster with the tea?

Let’s talk Blood Pressure

So for anyone middle age+ (I am 54.)

How is your blood pressure?

Mine has been high off and on as of late.

Any of you folks who take it for chronic pain, have to manage high blood pressure and you think it’s related to Kratom use?

Post surgery prescription meds

I thgouht after doing some research that I could decrease my 10 mg Percocet after surgery by doing my kratom at night instead. Last night at 7 I took my kratom. Felt pretty good and energetic. I took another dose at 4 am. Felt sweaty and chills like withdrawal starting at 7. I got up and had some loose bms. I took my my 7 am dose of Percocet and I felt a tiny bit better but not much. Then I took my 11 am dose and still felt pretty much nothing. I guess I answered my own questions about kratom taking up all the mu receptors so pain meds don't work as well. My question is what time today should I try to take my Percocet again? I'll suffer through the day as long as I can but I'm in pain and being thrown into withdrawals. When I had surgery I discontinued my kratom at 12 pm the night before and I felt the pain meds they gave me after surgery well enough. Would 4 pm be enough of a separation from the kratom to try again?

Kratom when getting wisdom teeth pulled?

I have limited experience with Kratom. I went through a decent sized bag of the leafy stuff last year and it was always pleasant enough. I forget the dosage, but it wasn't high and I enjoyed it a few nights a week until it was gone.

Then a month ago I tried a Kratom shot from the gas station and the effects were mild and seemed fleeting but were overall good. I was thinking of taking another one of those shots about an hour before I get my wisdom teeth pulled with local anesthetic.

Does that seem like a reasonable thing to do? The numbing stuff they use at the dentist never seems to fully get rid of the pain for me at the dentist and when I tell them that, they jab extra into me and it doesn't seem to make a difference; it just leaves me extra sore later in the day.

I know sedation is an option but my insurance doesn't cover that and I'm not willing to put it on my credit card.

Kratom interactions with Halcion

Long story short, I need some advice. I have severe dental anxiety, I'm having a full mouth extraction on Tuesday and I'm worried about potential drug interactions. I take about 20-30 gpd of kratom. Today I'm gonna take half of that and tomorrow try to take less of what I take today. Long story short should I skip my dose completely tomorrow and just suck up the WDs? Or just not dose at all on day of Thursday to avoid interactions? Has anyone ever had experience with these two at all? Need my mind at ease.

㊗️ Transitioning to Kratom Switching to Kratom Leaf from 7

Hi All, I was introduced to Kratom several months ago, unfortunately directly to 7-HMG, and have been using it to alleviate my Tourettes syndrome and psychiatric disorders with a lot of success. But with the impending scheduling and general need-to financially I'm working on switching over to kratom leaf/powder, and straight mitragynine when absolutely needed. I was a low-dosage user of 7, typically 4 doses of 5mg spread throughout the day, stabilized for the entire time I used it so the switch isn't very hard for me, but it's an adjustment since I gotta figure out what strain/color is best for my specific circumstance. So there comes my question, anyone is experienced, what strain/color is best for anti-anxiety / mood-enhancement/stimulation? Right now I'm using Green Maeng Da.

🛃 Travel Legality of Flying to Denver with Kratom

So I’m going to Denver for a few days. I saw that Denver specifically had banned kratom this isn’t marked as being “not for human consumption”.

I bought a small bottle of Red Vein Bali kratom capsules. I was thinking of just packing it in my checked luggage. But with Denver’s law, should I be concerned since mine is not marked “not for human consumption”?

From Tea to Other Products

Hello! I am 30f in chronic pain for 2 months. Doctors all seem to think it’s intramuscular and the pain varies from day to day. For example; Friday I was working out with mild pangs and today I’m considering the ER for pain relief. I have been drinking green monkey strain pre-brewed from my local Kava Bar- they said they tested each small tea at about 45mg. It’s never synthetic as far as I’m told. I have to drink 3-4 to begin to feel the effects. It’s a bit of a drive and expensive in comparison to other vendors; however I’m highly apprehensive on buying powder or pill form. Can someone educate me and possibly help dose me or point me in the right direction? In cle Ohio where it’s legal.

Kratom just for partying on night every weekend? : r/kratom

Update: Kratom is changing my life! : r/kratom

Hi everyone, so want to give my update of my use of Kratom.

As I posted before I've been using it only for nightlife, since I'm a nightlife guy and really wanted to quit alcohol which was ruining my life.

I can tell you it continues to do wonders. I have zero need to drink alcohol now, don't even feel the urge at all which is the best outcome. People keep trying to buy me drinks, but it isn't a "I must not," more like "Nah, I'm not interested at all."

I did switch from the tincture to the gummies this weekend, though, as I feel the gummies gave me that awesome boost for nightlife without the stomach issues and overall, just easier since the tincture can get really annoying - it's more practical. And still, I don't feel like using it at all during the weekday I'm pretty good mentally during the weekday, so it's just a friday/saturday thing.

I have a two month travel trip soon, and I'm excited after 51 countries not to drink. I've had chaos happen when drunk, blow through money... gonna take my gummies and it should be even a more memorable trip.

I'm saving money, don't have hangovers, working out, lost 5 pounds in the past month, connecting more with people, better mood... it's a completely different world.

My mom really wanted me to stay safe and quit drinking, when she passed away due to her battle with ALS I drank like crazy and spiraling, even during her ALS even if i was with her she worried when I would arrive the weekends blacked out drunk. I've wanted to change for years, but didn't have an alternative. I did promise her... "Mom, it's okay, I'm gonna be okay." And I'm telling you... she would be so proud right now!

So mitragynine(kratom) is a direct analogue of 7. I guess that means regular kratom will be schedule 1 too?

Regular kratom will become schedule 1 across the US starting August 6th due to the federal analogue act scheduling 7, em gee em and pseudo.

Flying to Cancun

I am flying to Cancun in a few months and am worried about bringing my Kratom. I use the pressed pills (green vein) and am planning on just putting the bottle in my carry on. Has anyone had experience with traveling to Mexico lately? I am just worried about flying to another country with it.

how long for tolerance to decrease ?

i do not use regularly but i noticed my tolerance went up quite high to the point where i need 2-3 cups of kratom tea to feel something.
i use preferably red kratom even though i had some nice but different experience with the green strains.
when i get a 200g bag it can happen that i use daily for a couple days to a week.
often i take a month or plus brakes yet still it doesnt feel as my tolerance goes down sadly

Excited to try KRATOM, share your positive experiences!

About myself,

I’m 21, smoke weed rarely, use nicotine pouches (the ones you place in your mouth), realised my tolerance was f*d in a week and caffeine just seems to be hit and miss in terms of desired effects, causing me to be jerky (bodily) or awake but not necessarily productive. Bear in mind I never develop a tolerance to caffeine, I used to have around 400mg a day.

So I’d like to know what benefits KRATOM has without any of the pretentious “this is bad for you” bs because I am not a child and secondly raw dogging life is not for me, you only live once so enjoy life, this vessel is temporary, i rather beat it around and have fun.

anyways good days

Weird day after taking kratom

I had kratom tea in San Diego once like 12 years ago. I really feeling really relaxed and that relaxed feeling lasted maybe an hour.

That was the one & only time I took it.

My friend came to visit me this weekend & she gave me a kratom pill. It was 120 mgs or grams idk and I took 1/4 of it. I immediately felt sedated. I slept until the morning. The next morning I threw up twice & I slept pretty much all day only now feeling some what normal at 9:20 pm. A whole 24 hours after the dose. My friend swears I ate something bad bc I took a low dose. I threw out the packaging so I can’t give anymore details but I think it’s the kratom, right? Was the dose to high? Should I throw out the rest of the broken apart capsule? Is this normal? Will I feel better tomorrow? So many questions lol

Insomnia for m quitting

I've been using kratom for nearly 9 years and have attempted to quit a couple times in the last two but failed due to terrible RLS that would prevent me from sleeping. I've always been bad about measuring my consumption, but estimate it to be around 30 g per day. The thing is, I've never increased the dosage in the last 7 or so years .and have only taken it to keep the RLS at bay. I decided .again to attempt quitting about a month ago and was determined to succeed this time around. I managed to stop cold turkey and have not used since it's been 28 days. What's odd is that aside from maybe 4 or 5 nights of intense RLS, I've had absolutely no other withdrawal symptoms...well except for maybe one. While the RLS has subsided, I am experiencing terrible insomnia. More often than not, I just lay in bed and can not fall asleep. It's not anxiety as my mind does not race. I am just unable to sleep until around 7 or 8 am then I sleep for a few hours. I'm wondering if this is common and if so, how long will it take for it so go away.
