I’m knitting the Wading Birds scarf by Yarnquarium and really enjoying it so far, but I have a question. In some places, it seems as though my opposite side colour is showing through between stitches. Is this because I am not fully bringing it to the front?

I have been trying to hold the right side main colour at the bottom and contrast (purl) at the top of my knitting thimble, and for small contrast sections e.g the two stitch neck, I usually just knit the top colour and purl the bottom making sure to pull the yarn so that it doesn’t show through much, but is this causing the show through? For bigger sections I tend to switch them.

Here is my dress bodice with my two color choices on top, and a photo of the finished piece that inspired me to start this in the first place. Originally I bought the lighter mohair to use for the skirt. Then I came across the darker one and fell in love!

They both look good.

The light one is lace weight Mohair held double with bamboo cotton fingering weight held double so I could meet gauge. It's a lot of strands to work with but it creates a beautiful soft drapey fabric.

The dark one is just 1 strand of a bulkier mohair held with a single strand of the same bamboo cotton. It's much more plush than the light one

I like the dark one. Everyone I've asked though seems to like the lighter one better. So now I ask you. Which would you pick?

ETA: thank you guys! I'm definitely going to go with the darker one. I'm going to swatch it 1 more time to see if I even need the white fingering weight in there. Also I could switch the white to black. If anyone has opinions on this id love to hear them!

I just have to sew parts together.

I learned a few days ago that magic knots are not that magic... What can I do to secure them before I wash my sweater? It's 100% cotton.

I've knitted a sweater on circular needles from bottom to top. It's Lopspeysa. I've knitted strictly in accordance to the pattern and it was great right up to the neck.

The problem is: neck is too wide. If i'll make a few decreases and knit elastic band, my head won't be able to go through the neck. Help me please 🥹

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for advice on how to fix my messy and uneven selvedge edges in flat garter stitch. I’ve attached a collage with 3 photos:

* **Photo 1:** Full view of the swatch showing the distorted side edges.
* **Photo 2:** Alternate full view of the swatch.
* **Photo 3:** Close-up of the edge stitch/turn on the needle, showing a loose loop hanging off the end.

**My technique:**

* **Style:** Continental (working yarn held in my left hand).
* **First stitch:** Slipped (was slipping it knitwise, trying purlwise now) + slightly tugging the working yarn.
* **Last stitch:** Knitted as a regular knit stitch.
* **Row:** All knit stitches with consistent tension.

**The issue:** As you can see in **Photo 3**, every time I turn or start a new row, a loose, distorted loop forms at the edge. Over time, this creates messy bumps and knots all along the sides (**Photos 1 & 2**).

1. What am I physically doing wrong at the turn/first stitch (**Photo 3**) that creates this excess slack?
   
2. Is slipping the first stitch + knitting the last stitch ideal for garter stitch, or should I switch to a different selvedge technique (like knitting every single stitch or an i-cord edge)?

I made a mistake many rows back when knitting.

Is there an easy fix to make it look uniform in the front by just using thread in the right color and a needle? I don’t care about making the back look right.

Anybody out there with any ideas of how to easily fix this mistake?

I’m knitting a top, and for the first portion of it I had to knit a 2x2 rib in the round. I did lazy purls, so on the wrong side my purl stitches are teisted twisted (see the wrong side in the first photo). Now, I need to knit the next section flat, and I can’t figure out how to do it so my purls remain twisted on the wrong side??

In the second photo, you can see that my purls untwist on the wrong side. Please how do I twist them when working flat? 😭

I’m about to block my first sweater soon, however, I don’t know how long I should make the sleeves. It’s a sweater for my 3 year old cousin (he is basically a 1.5-2 year old size in pattern) and I made it 1-2 sizes bigger for him to grow into it and wear it for at least two winters. Currently I have finished the decreases for the sleeves in Drops Nepal and it’s exactly the same length of his arms without the ribbing for the wrists. How much should I expect the sleeves to grow with a merino wool (non-superwash) and alpaca mix yarn after blocking? I’m trying to figure out if the sleeves will be too long for him after blocking where we have to roll them up several times or I should just remake the sleeves and make them shorter (one less decrease). I want the sleeves to reach his knuckles or the middle of the fingers so he has 2-3 inches of growing room over the next few years.

I meant to measure the gauge swatch before and after blocking, but I only measured after blocking since I started this sweater several months ago when I was a beginner.

Hi all. Just finished my first project (teaching myself) but I have a lot of "holes" where I missed a stitch or something else along the way. Is there a way to fix this and make it look better?

More and more lately I’m finding that my knitted dishcloths are absolutely not holding up to use. They start developing holes after a couple uses and washes (maybe 5?) using them to wash dishes. Any pro tips on 1) pattern, yarn, etc. changes, 2) whether other people deal with this and 3) what do people do with these dishcloths after they get like this? Just toss them? Or use them in a new creative way?

help! i’m making the monday sweater by petite knit. it’s my first jumper.

i’ve spent all day knitting, and only just realised i didn’t increase my needle size when i finished the collar. i’ve been knitting on 3.5mm this whole time, when i was supposed to change to 4mm.

is the size going to be a lot smaller? i don’t like a tight fit.

it took me 11 hours to get to this point, and i want to cry thinking about ripping it out. but at the same time i don’t want a too-small jumper.

UPDATE: thank you all for your advice! i ended up unravelling my work and starting again from the collar. in less than half the time (5 hours!) i was able to get to the same spot in the pattern. it's wild how much quicker it is when you're not learning for the first time. i enjoyed the german short rows the second time around, so am very please i started again. lesson learned!

Solved!Thought I’d ask the knitting advice sub: as a beginner knitter I’ve never knit a gauge swatch like the picture. I get you can knit a plain square but I’d like to make a swatch like OPs. :)

So I made this hat. I don't dislike it exactly but I did the rim in a purl stitch and the rest and stockinette. My goal was to just have a different design for the rim and the rest in stockinette. Clearly I forgot that it likes to roll up. I don't want to start over but I have a feeling that I'm going to have to start over or just live with it. This is my second attempt at my own design and this time I thought I was doing something very simple since this is the only part that's unique and not even unique really. Is there any recovery or is this a live with it and move on situation. This also gave me a reason to get rid of this horrible wool yarn that I hate and a useful way.

Yes I'm aware that I probably should have started over one or two rows after I started doing the different color and noticed it. Yes I'm stubborn and we don't need to bring it up in the comments lol.

Help! How do I remove the stains that my sweater got when drying on my yoga mat? I have tried to wash it twice, and duplicate stitch the bad areas (but it looked really bad).

I felt like knitting… so I started knitting a scarf last week and it’s almost done, ran out of yarn so I started trying to weave in the ends of when I tied the colors together (I’m sure there’s an easier way to switch yarn colour and if anyone knows pls tell me but I was too lazy to search LOL), and I started weaving the ends like I saw somewhere on tiktok cuz it seemed to work well on the loose ends from when I needed to switch yarn mid way because I ran out, but when I did it, it left my thing looking like the second photo… I swear my edge is straight, so I don’t know what I’m doing wrong and why it looks so… ugly LOL. Any tips? Like an easier way to get rid of the tied ends? This is my first ever knitting project and I have no idea what I’m doing
